Boxing Day Selections

20111226-112424.jpg

We have had a couple of disappointing results over the last few Saturdays from my selections after a great start! Hopefully today’s selections will come home and help to fill the diminshed coffers after Christmas emptied them.
I love Boxing Day racing and of course the pinnacle being the King George.

ROCK ON RUBY 2.35 KEMPTON (nap) (2nd)

Was really impressive last time out at Newbury and the form was franked by Raya Star winning last week. Has still got loads of improvement in him, and is not that far behind Binocular and Overturn on the ratings.

LOCH BA 1.25 KEMPTON (nb) (4th – never travelled well – disappointing!)

Won well here in October and was beaten in a good race by Trafalgar Road last month. A mistake 2 out cost him the race and I reckon he will scoot up today

BOBS WORTH 2.00 KEMPTON (treble) (3rd)

A class hurdler, who took to jumping well despite a few errors to beat Cue Card at Newbury. He’s another on the upgrade and I reckon he will just pip Grand Crus.

In the King George Ive change my mind a few times, Kauto Star was awesome at Haydock last time, but Long Run needed that race. So…….. I going for MASTER MINDED to show his class and stay 3 miles. Paul Nicholls has trained him for this race and he is only a few pounds below Long Run on the ratings anyway. He jumps cleanly and smootly and has bags of pace. I hope Im wrong and Kauto Star makes more history!

I also fancy HALLEY 1.45 Wetherby (FELL – on first circuit) and INDIAN DAUDAIE 1.40 Wincanton (4th) too.

Happy betting, good luck!

Finally, those who have read previous blogs know my wife comes out with crazy stuff every now and again. We’ve had two more crackers over the Xmas period.
1) while discussing the terrible Tsunami that hit Japan earlier this year, the programme we were watching showed Japan as it is on a map ( a series of islands!) to which my wife replied “I didnt know it was an island I thought it Japan was in China”!!! After I picked myself up after laughing so hard, she then said “Well I only thought that because they have slinty eyes too!” ~ I swear to God I nearly passed out laughing.

2) the second cracker from my wife was just this morning when my daughter asked why is today called Boxing Day, my wife’s response “because it’s when you throw all the empty boxes away from Christmas” ~ again absolutely priceless!

Enjoy “Boxing Day” and I hope the selections come good!

Saturday’s Horses

20111217-104825.jpg

Whatever wins today is going to have to be a horse that enjoys soft ground and stays well! Hopefully I can highlight a few horses to bolster the Christmas coffers.

Only Medermit (each way) came in for us last week, and what a great run it was. He’s gone into the notebook for future meetings in the New Year.

So on to today and the best three :

MASSINI’S MAGUIRE (NAP) 3.05 ASCOT

Unbeaten in two starts at Ascot and has always been knocking at the door in Listed events like this. ‘Dickie’ Johnson on board is a real plus and I reckon he will cruise round and come home strongly despite being off the track for 413 days.

PROSPECT WELLS (NB) 3.35 ASCOT

A super competitive Ladbroke as always. Prospect Wells should be running here unbeaten but for a slight blip earlier in the year. A class horse on the flat (ran in French Derby), Paul Nicholls has done what Howard Johnson couldn’t, got him to jump! He will cruise along and his class will show up the hill, my concern is the impressive Gibb River!

PEARLYSTEPS (TREBLE) 2.45 HAYDOCK

A dour stayer ( ran in a 4 mile at Cheltenham) and will like the softer ground. Has been running in class races and not quite getting there – today’s the day!

For a little side bet also look for REINDEER DIPPIN 2.10 HAYDOCK, who loves it soft and also WOODY WALLER 1.40 HAYDOCK for an extra chance.

Good luck if you’re having a bet!

Christmas parties

20111213-210102.jpg

I have worked in a few schools in my time as a teacher and been to the normal sit down bog standard boring Christmas meals – in a word they’re crap and expensive.

My current school does a totally different slant on Christmas parties. Each year the organiser, one of the PE department, chooses a theme and every department in the school dresses up and does a sketch on that theme. Past parties have been THE TITANIC, PHOENIX NIGHTS, NIGHT AT THE MOVIES, GANGS OF NEW YORK to name a few.

This year was the Romans – enter loads of acts and staff dressed up all for a fee of £2 each to hire the venue. People turned up as gladiators, as warriors, and senators with their togas. We also had foes of rome including the Languages department as Atilla and his Huns and a guest appearance by Genghis Khan!! D&T brought Cleopatra back from Egypt, Science were the ‘Gods’ and we had a Roman Shhoting Stars act to name a few acts. The night was rounded of by our Admin team doing an Up Pompeii sketch.

Each year departments turn out great acts and fun is had by all including the disco at the end of the night, last year was won by the Senior Management Team who also actively take part in acts every year. The bursar this year decided to come as ‘Biggus Dickus’ of Monty Python fame, and I swear it was the Graham Chapman, he had it off to a tee. Our head was caesar for the evening who voted each act with a thumbs up and freedom or a thumbs down and fed to the lion ( a paper mache head built by the art department ). All this performed on stage surrounded by props and backdrops made by the DT department. The evening was brought to a close by our Science technician or DJ as he was for the night after a couple of hours of partying Roman style.

I still can’t believe we pull off bigger and better events each year but we do, and it’s a whole staff event. So, next time you think what shall we do for our Christmas party this year, then why not try a theme night. Trust me, they work and they are awesome!

Todays Horse Selections

20111210-123708.jpg

After getting 3 out of 5 winnings selections last week, I need to keep the run going and with a competitive card at Cheltenham it could prove difficult.

MENORAH 3.05 CHELTENHAM NAP

Was awesome over hurdles last term, including winning this! Back over the smaller obstacles should help and I reckon the fast pace set by Overturn should set this up for Menorah’s speed up the hill! I’m abit conscious of Sanctuaire’s threat however.

MEDERMIT 2.30 CHELTENHAM NB

Another promising type who has been quietly making improvements over fences this year. A tidy round of jumping just sat off the pace should set it up for him up the Cheltenham hill. A bit of caution is taken due to the competitive nature of the race and the selection is therefore each way.

KING FONTAINE 3.20 DONCASTER TREBLE

Ive lost a few pounds following this one, his jumping has really let him down recently! However, Ive got a feeling that today on a track that will suit that everything will fall into place.

If you’re betting good luck, and another one to give another chance to is ROBINSON COLLONGES 1.20 CHELTENHAM – another under performer who could get up first today!

What’s Happened to TV?

I can’t believe how TV on a Saturday night had diminished into what seems an eternity of celeb status bollocks! Turn on BBC on a Satruday and you’re faced with what feels like hours of sad two bit, past it, celebrities dancing. I mean, I remember as a kid they tried to show ‘Come Dancing’ on TV and soon realised it was a pile of shite and no-one was bothered about it. Yet add some celebs and suddenly it’s a hit?

What happened to programmes aimed at blokes – Airwolf, A-Team, The Fall Guy, Dukes of Hazzard to name a few beauts from my youth. The problem is that you can’t turn over as ITV have 6 hours of trash, starting with XFactor. Seriously what is X about it, none of them can sing, once the show has finished nobody remembers them, yet thousands watch it. Then you have a further hour or two of I’m a Celeb, given, Ant and Dec try their best to brighten this up, but who honestly gives a shit about Sinitta being scared of insects. She sung a shit, cheesy song about twenty years ago, end of!

The answer – WOMEN! All TV bosses are creating these shows as they know women will chat, txt, email, blog, tweet and everything else possible about this celeb shit. Why, ‘cos all they want to be is a touch away from celebdom themselves, that’s why those ridiculous magazines sell bucket loads every week. The male world appreciate good programmes for what they are, talk about them over a beer and remember them always. – “Aint getting on no plane, you crazy fool!”

I need to make a stand now and ask every other man out there to stand up to this trash too, we deserve better, don’t forget the heydays of Baywatch, that shaped many of our futures. Please TV bosses, enough of this celeb crap, give us violence, humour, bikini’s and guns, oh and of course a gorgoeus female lead to whet our appetite!

My Horse Selections for today

20111203-100937.jpg

FRANKIE FIGG (NAP) 3.20 AINTREE

Fantastic front running horse, who jumps like a stag. Won this well last year, and while he was very disappointing last time these fences will bring the best out of him – horses for courses!

SIZING EUROPE (NB) 3.05 SANDOWN

Top class horse who is the current Chamion Chaser, will have too much class for his rivals today. Optimum trip and conditions.

GIBB RIVER (TREBLE) 2.30 SANDOWN

Went on an impressive run in some modest races last year and then finished well behind Al Ferof at Cheltenham. Still unexposed and I’m taking a chance he’ll bounce back here today.

For a couple of extras who have a chance today go with POUNGACH (1.25) SANDOWN and a horse slipping down the weights who loves testing ground LE BEAU BAI (2.05) CHEPSTOW

If you’re having a bet, good luck!
