The Bandit’s Horse Tips for today

Festival trials day, fantastic day of racing and a few pointers maybe the big one in March. A couple of hard luck stories last week and a few awful performances. I hope a few of today’s picks give me a better shout for my money than recent weeks.

ANQUETTA 3.55 DONCASTER (NAP)(Last – complete disaster)

Won very well first time out this season at Ascot, and then fell very early on the next time out. After that first impressive run I’m hoping he has been to jumping school, and if so, should have the class to beat these.

One of my old favourites and I have always stuck with him since his novice days. He has cost me a penny or two, but receiving weight as he does today he has the ability to beat these. As always it depends what mood he is in. Horses for courses at Cheltenham and he did win an Arkle here remember! Hope the classy Tidal turns up!

Was going pretty well last time over the big ones at Aintree when falling. Hopefully the rest from that and a drop to ‘smaller’ fences will help. If WYMOTT wins I’ll flip after a few dreadful runs when I tipped him up.

I also fancy an each way squeak on ROALCO DE FARGES 1.30 CHELTENHAM,(6th)having won well at Newbury, he then flopped at Wincanton, but 20-1 is a big price! My other little squeak is on CHANCE DU ROY 2.05 CHELTENHAM,(5th) he has run creditably this year and seemed to stay too late last time, lets hope he’s closer this time in the run in.

Good luck if you are having a flutter and remember these are my selections and I’m nt suggesting you follow my ‘amateur’ advice. Remember to bet within your means too.

Horse selections for 21st Jan

After a last minute success of Hey Big Spender (14-1) I managed to recoup a few loses. It also was the first winner on the blog for a while and the frustrations of tipping horses that were not getting a sniff was starting to grate!

So, we head into this week with renewed confidence and vigour. I have decided to op for two Lucky 15’s this week, but have indicated my top three as normal.

The way the horse recovered from a bad blunder last time out and still get up and beat Wishful Thinking shows this horse has class and is also brave. His jumping is a little suspect, yet I reckon with a clear round will have too much for the rest today. It’ll be interesting to see how good AL FEROF is.

NOLAND 3.45 ASCOT (NB) (6th)

An encouraging return in the Lexus last time should have sharpened him up. A horse with bags of class and if he can reproduce his old form will wipe the floor with his rivals today.

Was well in contention with CANNINGTON BROOK last time at Haydock. He was just getting into the race when tipping up. He has the ground in his favour again and I think he will travel well into contention and stay on up the demanding Haydock run in.

Running of what appears to be a decent mark, and has the potential to run well and take this class of race.

PATEESE 2.35 ASCOT – (6th)willing to give him another go to bounce back to the form of his first run this year.

OUR GIRL SALLEY 2.05 ASCOT – (3rd)has a good record with Geraghty on board and will win nicely

TIPPERING 2.20 HAYDOCK (Last!!!)– has been knocking on the door recently and just got pipped here last time, likes the ground and today could be his day.

MIAS BOY 3.35 LINGFIELD –(5th) returned back to form last time at Wolves and should go close again!

If you’re having a bet good luck, and remember these are my selections for today and I’m not suggesting anyone takes my advice. If you are betting, do so within your means!

Good luck and here’s to a cracking days racing.

Saturdays selections

After a rubbish effort last week I’m hoping for a change of fortune this week. I’m going with a Lucky 15 in order of confidence – lets hope we have a change of luck. Remember these are my choices and I’m not suggesting anyone takes my advice.

Remember if you are betting, bet within your budget!

Lucky 15

Has been running against Big Bucks recently and takes a drop in class. Re-opposes against Dorset Square, but I reckon if he reproduces the form from that Cheltenham second (it was after a huge absence) he will take some pegging back today.

Is a progressive horse and I reckon will love the track and come off the pace to land the Lanzarote. Stayed on well in his last outing and appears to have been kept for this race.

Won well at Newcastle in November despite not jumping too well. Fell when in touch last time and I reckon he has a bit in hand on these ( hence his big weight ).

AMBION WOOD 3.05 WARWICK ( Lucky 15 Fourth Selection ) (2nd)

Won very easily last time and I hope he will come late to beat HIGHLAND LODGE, a bit of a risk, but what bet isn’t.

Ive also had a little saver on FINE PARCHMENT (3.20 Kempton)(5th) and CARABINER (2.15 Kempton). (6th)

Here’s to a decent days racing with Cheltenham starting to appear on the horizon!

The Golfbandit’s round today and a review of Wortley Golf Club

Today I embarked upon my first game of 2012 and the first one since my ankle operation. After two under handicap rounds prior to the op and a handicap drop to 16 I was excited about the round this morning.

A quick hit on the range helped get me switched on. My card is below :

golfing at Wortley

The course was excellent and in fantastic condition for this time of year. One winter green was in use on the first, and it was better than some normal greens on other courses I’ve played. £25 was the cost, reasonable I thought and the staff and other golfers were all very friendly, helpful and polite.

The main positive of the round is the ankle operation doesnt seem to have had a negative impact on my game, and only began hurting after hole 12. The second positive was my putting was on fire! Yet as always with golf other parts of my game were not firing! My GIR was awful, and my FIR not much better ~ yet after two months off I am happy with 89, and but for two horrendous holes where I scored 9 and 7 I would have hit my new handicap mark again.

The course itself is a woodland course, and while it is designed to give you the chance to drive off the tee, any errors result in difficult shots through trees. There are quite a few par 3’s that are challenging and one over a ditch that is a really great hole to play. There are a couple of very tough, long par 4’s (the 9th in particular!), yet overall a fair and well laid out course. It was very enjoyable to play and one of my favourites that I have played – 4 out of 5!

I ending up winning and beating my golfing buddy Foxy (@Golfingcyclist), he wasn’t firing half as well as he can though to be fair! Yet a victory is a victory! Roll on the next round, but for all you guys reading this in the Sheffield area I would thoroughly recommend a round at Wortley, and I know we will be returning.

First Gamble of 2012

Last weekend proved to be a good one on the horses front. Typically I did’nt get chance to update my blog and put the selections, yet I did tweet my Lucky 15 selections which included Celestial Halo! Great performance and brought some nice returns!

So, to kick off 2012 here are today’s best three.

Hasn’t shown nearly enough of his old form this year and was awful at Haydock. With front running tactics set to be employed I’m hoping for a better run and a decent showing. 10-1 is a decent price for this horse too!

Ran creditably in the Ladbroke and may have to make the race run to suit today. Think he will have the class to win today ~ the danger though is Colour Squadron

Ran a great race when beaten a head by Astracad, and then followed that up with a win at Newbury. Venetia Williams horses are flying and despite his big hike in the weights I reckon he will come in today!

Also fancy a bit of a cheeky each way punt on CANTABILLY 3.25 WINCANTON (7th) – hasnt won for ages yet returned to hurdles well last time and at 33-1 is worth a little punt. Add I’M SO LUCKY 3.45 SANDOWN as another saver too. Ran in grade 1’s all last year and may do a Celestial Halo and win with top weight in a lower class.

Good luck if you’re having a flutter – look out for a blog on the first golf round of the year tomorrow!
