What a first day! Class racing and some fantastic horses on show. Lets also reflect on the unfortunate side of racing and the deaths of three great horses too, and all the joy they brought to their connections over the years.
As the picture says, another belting day in prospect! With some returns from the very brave FRUITY O’ROONEY and BALTHAZAR KING I am going with the following selections for day two!
Any ideas what my first selection is?
DIAMOND JUBILEE NATIONAL HUNT CHASE
HARRY THE VIKING – (2nd – 7-1)you need to be a real stayer to win this and Harry ticks all the boxes. He has won both chase starts so far this year and will take some stopping here. Win bet advised!
NEPTUNE INVESTMENT NOVICE HURDLE
COTTON MILL (nap) – (each way) (UR) won very well at Warwick earlier in the year to out battle the very game AMBION WOOD. We all saw how impressive his win was on Saturday (napped at 14-1). Denis O’Regan afterwards said Cotton Mill was his best chance, I agree! His battling qualities and smooth travelling style should see him home. I see a huge danger in SIMONSIG (1st 2-1) and therefore advise an each way bet.
GRAND CRUS – (unplaced) has been impressive again this year, you need to be a real stayer for this race, and he is. Has form at the course and I can’t see anything else getting hear him if he runs to form. Win bet.
QUEEN MOTHER CHAMPION CHASE
SIZING EUROPE –(2nd – 10-11) the best two miler around at the minute and while this is not a hot renewal I can’t see anything beating him. Win bet.
SPIRIT RIVER (nb) – (each way)(FELL) hasn’t run at all well over fences this year so is switched back to hurdles. He thrived over the smaller obstacles prior to that and is a festival winner. Has to have a massive chance at a great price to finish in the top four.
FRED WINTER JUVENILE HURDLE
DARK AND DANGEROUS – (each way) (unplaced)has won a couple of decen races this year and I reckon this stiffer test will suit even more. VENDOR (3rd – 3-1)has a great chance of taking this, and I will have a small bet on him too, yet I hope my selection gets a place at least.
WEATHERBYS CHAMPION BUMPER
SIR JOHNSON (treble) (unplaced)– beat ROYAL GUARDSMAN quite comfortably at Aintree in October despite conceding about seven pounds to him! Enough said! Was also 25-1 last week, currrent price is 10-1! Must go close – win bet.
As always these are my selections and I’m no suggesting you follow my advice. If you do have a dabble, bet within your means. Roll on day two! God I love this sport!
