Monday, an old favourite!

Monday’s Tips
An old favourite!

Sunday was a bit of a write off. The weather yet again was awful, and so was the tipping. I didn’t really fancy anything to be honest and shouldn’t have bothered. Anyway, lets hope the ground dries out a bit in time for the Guineas at the weekend.

SPITFIRE 1810 WINDSOR – (nap) (NR) an old favourite of mine, watched him win at Warwick on his racecourse debut and he won me a packet at 25-1 on Leger day the other year. Is not as good now, but has won fresh and on heavy ground before – got both tomorrow with the champ up. (5 point win)

LIBRETELLA 1615 KEMPTON – (nb) (unplaced) three wins last year including here. Open to possible improvement, interesting that Fallon rides him instead of Refractor, who he rode last time and is fancied. (4 point win)

THE GURU OF GLOOM 1715 KEMPTON – (unplaced) two out of three so far on AW, including a 7f victory here. Look progressive and must have a chance! (3 point win)

STAKE = 12 points

RETURNS = 5 points for NR

BANK = 50.5 points

Stats as of 30/4/12

WINS 23/115 = 20%
NAPS 8/39 = 20.5%
PLACED 27/115 = 23.4%
WIN OR PLACED 50/115 = 43.4%
TREBLES LANDED = 2

Sunday at Ludlow

A bit of a mixed bag on Saturday. One great race when I had TIDAL BAY (9-1) and ROALCO DE FARGES (7-1) both e/w in the Bet 365. I thought RDF had a better chance but I couldn’t leave old Tidal out, I’ve followed him every race since his novice days. Was great to see him run again to the standard that he can. He jumped beautifully throughout, RDF is a stayer to note for the future too!

So, here are the runners at Ludlow and a nap at Navan.

MAD FOR ROAD 1635 NAVAN – (nap) (unplaced) hails from a top yard, which is in form. Some decent form and looks like one that will train on and improve. Decent draw, chance! (6 point win)

SONG SUNG BLUE 1625 LUDLOW – (nb) (NR) won well at Sandown over 2m in Feb and then didn’t really stay next time there. Aintree’s race was too hot for him and this race is much more up his street. (2 point win)

CLARION CALL 1550 LUDLOW – (treble) (unplaced) still awaiting his first win, should have done so at Towcester, and then fell when leading and would have won at Hereford. Ascot was too hot for him, this I’m hoping is where he will lose his duck! (1 point win)

STAKE = 9 points

RETURNS = 2 points for NR

BANK = 57.5 points

Stats as of 29/4/12

WINS 23/113 = 20.3%
NAPS 8/39 = 20.5%
PLACED 27/113 = 23.8%
WIN OR PLACED 50/113 = 44.2%
TREBLES 2/39 5.1%

Saturday’s Tips – The NH Signs Off

Saturday’s Tips

As the National Hunt signs off, I’ve put a link to my favourite moment of the season. When the majestic KAUTO STAR won the Betfair Chase at Haydock. The video of the race is here

It’s has been another amazing season with so many other highlights, BIG BUCKS landing a fourth World Hurdle, the late SYNCHRONISED winning the Gold Cup. NEPTUNE COLLONGES in the National and then the great performance by MERIGO last week in the Scottish version.

So, as we move full steam ahead into the flat season. Here are my selections for today.

ROALCO DE FARGES 1510 SANDOWN – (nap) (2nd – 7-1 = 8.25 points) ran a good race when fifth in the Midlands National and had a nice warm up victory over 3m at Chepstow last time. He will have no issues with the ground and is a cracking each way chance. (3 points each way)

O’CROTAIGH 1410 MARKET RASEN – (nb) (unplaced) has gone up 7lbs for his fourth course win last time out. I tipped him up that day here on the blog. He may not get things his own way again but is brave and should fend off the others. (3 point win)

TOP SMART 1400 SANDOWN – (treble) (PU) ran well when winning here two runs ago and ran a creditable third in a class 2 handicap behind Hada Men at Haydock. Has to be in the mix! (2 points each way)

STAKE = 13 points

RETURNS = 8.25 points

BANK = 64.5 points

Stats as of 28/4/12

WINS 23/111 = 20.7%
NAPS 8/38 = 21.05%
PLACED 27/111 = 24.32%
WIN OR PLACED 50/111 = 45.04%
TREBLES 2/38 5.2%

As it is a Saturday I will be having a few more bets too.
TIDAY BAY 1510 SANDOWN e/w is one of my old favourites and I have to back him each way. He’s the class horse and with soft ground and a slower run race he may be able to focus more on his jumping.(won 9-1 😃)
CORNAS 1435 SANDOWN likes it here and has every chance with today’s conditions (unplaced)
SILVERY MOON 1420 RIPON e/w is 2 from 3 in mile handicaps and will be ok on the ground (2nd – 9-1 😃)
TARTAN TRIP 1720 SANDOWN has his only win over course and distance, he will enjoy the ground more than others and a Fortune drive will get him home.(unplaced)

Friday’s Tips

Another winner on the blog on Thursday, shame it was only a short priced one! COUNTRY ROAD (5-4). One of my tips today came behind the horse in the photo SIMONSIG at Cheltenham.

I must tell you about an exciting opportunity that Coral have created this year. They have formed the CORAL CHAMPIONS CLUB, the website, with all the details is here. What a fantastic opportunity, and courtesy of Coral and Brit Bloggers I have been very kindly made a classic member. Well chuffed!

So, on to Friday’s tips :

OVERLADY 1435 PERTH – (nap) (PU) won well at Ayr in January on soft ground then fell trying to follow that win up in heavy ground. Has since come 4th in good to soft ground. With the ground softening all the more, she must have an outstanding each way chance at a great price (4 points each way)

STRIDENT FORCE 1455 SANDOWN – (nb) (unplaced) ran some creditable races last year and will be one that should improve now handicapping. Has ran well on good to soft and Stoute has won this race in twice in the last 4 years. (3 points each way)

FELIX YONGER 1805 PUNCHESTOWN – (treble) (unplaced) ran an excellent race when second to Simonsig at the festival. Has form that reads 2211 on soft or heavy ground. Stable in form, must have a great chance. (2 point win)

STAKE = 16 points

RETURNS = 0 points

BANK = 71.25 points

Stats as of 27/4/12

WINS 23/108 = 21.2%
NAPS 8/37 = 21.6%

Shattered!

Last week was a real challenge, I’ve never attempted a sonnet before. I’m not sure I got it right but enjoyed the complexity of the challenge. Thanks to everyone’s feedback, appreciated as always. If you want to read my sonnet about George the Dragon Slayer, click here.

This week’s prompt for the 100 word challenge is I’m exhausted, shut the door behind you.

Hope you like it and please leave feedback.

It had taken him what seemed like forever, without the extra boost of fuel, an eternity it would have took this time. Year after year on this special night he had this duty bestowed upon him. Could he complain? Not a chance, the idea of so much joy and happiness being brought to so many was as big a motivator as ever in these difficult times. So, with his boots finally off, his task complete for another year, his devoted wife brought him his hot chocolate. She spun to leave him be and Saint Nick kindly requested “I’m exhausted, shut the door behind you”

Thursday – Relax, Don’t do it!

Albion Wood (11-8) was the winning nap on Wednesday. This horse is quickly becoming a favourite of mine. It was another fighting display, what a chaser he will make!

With the weather playing havoc, lets hope it doesn’t affect the weekend fixtures. So, onwards to Thursday.

RUNSWICK RELAX 1500 PERTH – (nap) (unplaced) stayed on well last time on his handicap bow, and the softer ground over this distance should help. He finished 2nd on soft at Catterick over 3m 2f. He’s unexposed and may have more improvement in him than some of these. (3 points each way)

DOOR BOY 1530 PERTH – (nb) (PU) ran a great second to Chance Du Roy on his return. The form has been franked by his subsequent win and a great second at Aintree. Must run well. (2 point win)

COUNTRY ROAD 1520 WOLVERHAMPTON – (treble) (Won – 5-4 = 4.5 points) plenty in his favour, and looking for his fourth win in five outings over course and distance. (2 point win)

STAKE = 10 points

RETURNS = 4.5 points

BANK = 87.25 points

Stats as of 26/4/12

WINS 23/105 21.9%

Wet Wednesday – Take Cover in Ambion Wood

What is going on with this weather? In some areas they’re are saying we are in a drought, yeah right! Done nowt but chuck it down here for the past few weeks and with more forecast on Wednesday we need to find the soft ground horses!
Tuesday’s tips proved to give us some retuns with FADE TO GREY (5-1) obliging.

So, on to Wednesday.

AMBION WOOD 1430 PERTH – (nap) (Won 11-8 = 23.75 points) won a fantastic race at Sandown and was tipped up here. Previous to that he ran COTTON MILL close at Warwick. He won at Sandown off top weight and with the rain forecast that will further aid his cause, I can’t see anything beating him. (10 point win)

SITTING TENNANT 1640 PERTH – (nb) (2nd – 7-1) was at one time a smart prospect for Howard Johnson and Graham Wylie and has won on soft and heavy. He hasn’t run over hurdles for two years, but his last two runs over these obstacles read 12. He has won at 2m and further and I fancy him to show some of his class today. (3 point win)

DEEP APPLAUSE 1615 CATTERICK – (treble) (unplaced) he will love the testing conditions forecast and the further trip should also play into his favour. Has won on good to soft and came second on heavy over 9f. (2 points each way)

STAKE = 17 points

RETURNS = 23.75 points

BANK = 92.75 points

Stats as of 25/4/12

Tuesday tips – A Beatles theme

TUESDAY TIPS
HEY JUDE!

A photo of the awesome MERIGO to start the blog. If ever there is a picture of a horse exuding confidence this has to be it. Taken in the ring before the race on Saturday, just look at his posture! Quality!

Anyway, a change of luck at last for Monday’s tips with the nap SEAL ROCK (9-2) winning and places for both RIVER DRAGON and CHOSEN CHARACTER.

Tuesday’s tips are here :

HITS ONLY JUDE 1940 SOUTHWELL – (nap) (unplaced) loves it here and Declan Carroll has turned out a few winners lately. He’s getting on a bit, but has been given a chance by the handicapper, I’m hoping for a least a place. (3 points each way)

FADE TO GREY 1555 WOLVERHAMPTON – (nb) (Won 5-1 = 16.5 points) goes well when fresh, record after a break reads 11 and booking of Kieren Fallon makes his selection even more interesting (2 points each way)

AMAZING STAR 1520 WOLVERHAMPTON – (treble) (unplaced) has a record of 2 from 3 on the polytrack over 7 furlongs. Including a win here at the end of March. (2 point win)

STAKE = 12 points

RETURNS = 16.5 points

BANK = 69 points

Stats as of 24/4/12 WINS 21/99 21.21% NAPS 7/34 20.5% TREBLES 2/34 5.8%

Monday at Ponte

THE BANDIT’S TIPS AT PONTE AND HEXHAM
A DRAGON AND A SEAL
A new week of racing ahead of us, with the first classics of the season just around the corner too. It won’t be long until I head off to Warwick for their meeting on May 12th too. Can’t wait, love the town, course and the weekend away.

Here are my selections for Monday, I’m having one of those very barren runs at the moment, not just with my naps but all my bets. It always happens though, peaks and troughs. Let’s hope they come in today.

SEAL ROCK 1515 PONTEFRACT – (nap) (Won 9-2 = 22 points) has won fresh the past two seasons and looked a very smart prospect at one point last year. Won his very first race impressively on good to soft, so I’m hoping he will perform. (4 point win)

RIVER DRAGON 1630 HEXHAM – (nb) (2nd 2-1) won well on Boxing Day and has repatedly run well since when performing over hurdles. The ground will be bottomless and he will love that, so has to come into calculations. (3 point win)

CHOSEN CHARACTER 1645 PONTEFRACT – (treble) (3rd 8-1 = 8 points) won here over the same distance last May off a slightly higher weight and was a creditable fifth the other week at Catterick. That run should have got him fitter for this. (2 points each way)

STAKE = 11 points

RETURNS = 30 points

BANK = 64.5 points

Stats as of 23/4/12 WINS 20/96 20.8% NAPS 7/33 21.1% TREBLES 2/33 6.06%

Sunday Tips

Fantastic Merigo ran another corker in the Scottish National, and I put him up here on the blog along with MOONSHINE MAGIC who looked very smart yesterday, and also brought home some cash. Yet, as always, sods law none of my best three got placed. With EDGARDO SOL and BOUCHER GARCON running stinkers when both highly fancied. The bank is unfortunately dwindling!

Let’s hope today brings a few winners!

KADOODD 1610 WINCANTON – (nap) (unplaced) ran a creditable race at Huntington on his debut, and he should have more to come today. (3 point win)

WHISTLING SENATOR 1510 WINCANTON – (nb) (unplaced) won well last month at Huntington and is raised 7lbs, could still have more improvement in him that the champ can squeeze out. (3 point win)

TINDARO 1630 STRATFORD – (treble) (unplaced) will relish the conditions and follow up his course win from March. Looks very much on the upgrade. (3 point win)

STAKE = 9 points

RETURNS = 0 points

BANK = 45.5 points

Stats as of 22/4/12 WINS 19/93 20.4 % NAPS 6/32 18.7% TREBLES 2/32 6.2%
