Soggy Saturday

As the heavens open yet again here in Sheffield, it can only be fitting to all hail the majestic, battling performance yesterday by Tidal Bay in the Lexus Chase. He has always been a class horse and has always been one of my favourites. The way Paul Nicholls has rejuvented him is testament to his skills as a trainer. It is also reflective of possibly how clueless Howard Johnson was. After his brave Hennessey second to Bob's Worth (What a piece of form that is) is was pleasing to see him get his nose infront. As or his pilot, Ruby Walsh, what a rider that man is.

As well as putting up Tidal Bay yesterday I also had Back in Focus and Supreme Carolina on what was a profitable day.

Let's hope today continues in that form.

BAKBENSCHER 1515 Newbury (nap) – (3rd – 10-3) took his tally to 4 out of 4 at Haydock last week when tipped up on my blog. That performance was facile and it looked like he had more in the tank. A 6lb rise is fair and I hope that it won't stop him making it 5 out of 5 on SUPER heavy ground.

EASTER DAY 1445 Newbury (nb) – (2nd – 9-2) is 2 from 2 over hurdles and looks a progressive type and hopefully this step up in class won't stop him. He will appreciate the ground.

COLOR SQUADRON 1335 Newbury (treble) – (2nd – 2-1) was the best hurdler out of these despite a couple of falls. Hopefully will have been schooled well and gets weight from Bury Parade, which should see him home first.

STATE BENEFIT 1410 Newbury – (PU) won over 3m at Sandown last time on soft ground and Geraghty is quite bullish about his chances.

Also having a flutter on KUDA HURAA 1545 (e/w) Newbury(UP) , SIXTY SOMETHING 1425 Doncaster(unplaced) , EMPEROR CONCERTO 1455 Doncaster (3rd – 20-1) and STORMY WEATHER 1315 Doncaster (UR)

Kempton Tips

I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and now we've got the other side I'm sure you're all gearing up for New Year. It's a shame the Welsh National is off, it is one of my favourite races of the year. Roll on the 5th Jan for the re-scheduling, although the way this weather is carrying on, I doubt it will be fit then!

Here are my selections for today :

KAFFIE 1330 Kempton (nb) – (unplaced) shaped up to being a decent staying Hurdler last year and his recent course and distance run was not bad and that will surely have sharpened him up for today. Ground should be ok, I hoping that last run has got him tiptop.

MENORAH 1405 Kempton (nap) – (WON 7-2) is really hit and miss but is no doubt the class act in the race. His reappearance was disappointing but I'm hoping today will be a hit day and he will come off the pace set by FOR NON STOP and stay on in the final furlong.

WISHFULL THINKING 1440 Kempton (treble) – (unplaced) another class horse and is getting back to running like his best. I think the ground will help him today to overcome SANCTUAIRE who will probably go off like a rocket again. He should have the staying power to win this and in receipt of weight from Sanctuaire he has the best chance.

ABLE DEPUTY 1545 Kempton – (unplaced) has form on heavy and will need to step up on his Sandown second. Was a hot favourite at Haydock on Saturday before tipping up at the first, providing that hasn't affected his confidence I'm hoping for a big run.

Also having a wager on JEZKI (WON 11-8) and PRINCE OF PIRATES (unplaced) over at Leopardstown and also having a flutter at a short price on DRAWNFROMTHEPAST 1215 LINGFIELD (WON 4-6) and fancy BILLSAGREY (unplaced) in the last at Wetherby.

If you are having a wager please bet within your means and lets hope we can put the 'brollies away soon.

Saturday tips

Well this ridiculous weather continues! Got a feeling the horses and jockeys will be dirtier than Harry Derham and Unioniste were last week! We all of course need to celebrate that we are still living and breathing after the fabled Mayan Prophecy of the 2012 Apocolypse came and went. Had to have a giggle at those idiots who went to the French town looking for aliens to save them, what has the world come to?

Anyway, let me take this chance to wish everyone who reads my blog a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I hope you all have a great time over the festive period and here's to a healthy 2013 – with lots of winners!

Let's hope Haydock goes ahead today. It's passed an inspection but rain is still tumbling down!

On to today's tips :

Two Lucky 15's for me today, with my usual top three bets in there too.

Roberto Goldback 1435 Ascot – has won well here before and didn't get much of a sniff in the Hennessey after unseating the rider. Likes Ascot, drops down in grade and has a good chance. (3rd – 4-1)

Into Wain 1510 Ascot – (NAP) ran a cracker when just pipped by Petit Robin last time at Sandown. He will love the ground again and with Ascot having the uphill finish from the final bend it should play into his strengths. He's a couple of pounds better off with Petit Robin for a SHD defeat. Got him at 22-1 this morning. Big player! (I hope!) (unplaced)

Ulck du Lin 1540 Ascot – (nb) you couldn't be anything but impressed with his latest win. He oozed class that day and a repeat of that should see him take this too. An exciting proposition. (WON – evens)

Mia's Boy 1355 Lingfield – one of my old favourites and a horse that has won me a few bob in the past. Enjoys running in small fields and ran well in second last time. Usually takes a race like this once or twice a season. Chance to do it today. (Unplaced)

Second Lucky 15

Dormouse 1210 Haydock – those of you who follow me on Twitter will know this one I napped twice when it won on both occasions earlier in the year. Has won on heavy before, and despite being higher in the weights has to have a chance. (Unplaced)

Bakbenscher 1345 Haydock (treble) – this horse has class, but hasn't been showing recently. He is potentially very well treated today and has a record of 3-3 on heavy ground and boy will today be heavy! (WON 4-1)

Mumbles Head 1415 Haydock – was fancied last time out to run a good race at Aintree but fell early on. He will be thereabouts at the end if his jumoing holds. Is a great price too! (Unplaced)

Master of the Hall 1400 Ascot – another horse who runs well here. Has run some good chases last season and looked to be a decent prospect. He has the ground to suit and if he jumps to some of his old chase form over hurdles today he has every chance. (Unplaced)

So, those are the Bandits selections today – remember they are my selections and I'm by no means an expert so don't blame me if they lose! If you are having a flutter, please do so within your own means.

Ho,Ho,Ho!Merry Christmas

Monday tips

Well Sunday was a much better day with both PONT ALEXANDRE (3-1) and TIPSY DARA (9-2) winning in the treble. We were only just pipped to a great return by RIVER DRAGON (5-1) coming second at Carlisle.

Lets hope Monday can be just as fruitful.

UNCLE JIMMY 1330 Plumpton (nap) (2nd 2-1) – flopped last time out when upped to 3 miles. However, the form of the race he won first time out is pretty decent and he has to have a sniff dropped back in distance.

THUNDERSTORM 1535 Plumpton (nb) (WON 5-2) – some decent bits of form before his lay off. Looks a type to get off the mark in this race.

HODGSON 1345 Ffos Las (treble) (unplaced- just!) – has ran well this season including when a very good second last time out at Haydock. That should be enough to take this.

Sunday selections

Not much luck yesterday on the tipping front. Although my nb Zarkandar was impressive again, battling really well up the hill. It will be interesting to see Grandouet's next run on better ground. He could well be a serious Champion Hurdle contender. Sad to see Cristal Bonus pull up injured yesterday and unfortunately it proved to be fatal, I really fancied him to win the race, but now feel worse that he's no longer with us.

On to today's selections.

River Dragon 1430 Carlisle (nap) – (2nd 5-1) returns to more a sutiable level for him. Will relish the ground conditions and having won in a class higher than this he must have a squeak.

Tipsy Dara 1300 Carlisle (nb) – (WON 9-2) another one who has form on heavy and over the distance. Needs to put a disappointing run last time behind her, although that may be related to the extended distance.

Pont Alexandre 1325 Navan (treble) – (WON 3-1) lots of positive noises have been coming out about him this week. Of interest to give Don Cossack a race. Must have a squeak, if only a little one.

Cheltenham and Doncaster

Saturday racing is on us again. I'm a little late this morning due to a stonking hangover from the staff xmas party last night. It's been an interesting week in the racing world with the Kauto Star saga. I doubt very much that Clive Smith and the Nicholls yard will be afiliated anymore, sounds like a right tug of war and a bit petty to be honest.

Anyway on to my selections for today :

Cristal Bonus 1430 Cheltenham (nap) (PU – inj) is a very good horse and even more so on heavy ground. Really fancy him to take another big race for Nicholls and Walsh. He is a progressive horse and I don't think Walk On will stay up the hill.

According to Trev 1355 Cheltenham – (unplaced)Coneygree is a decent horse and is feared the most, but I know this fella will stay all day and in this ground he will have to.

Zarkandar 1505 Cheltenham (nb) -(won 6-5) receiving 4lb from the other main rivals and a previous run when he was impressive at Wincanton should see him prevail. I am getting more and more impressed with him each time I see him run.

Garynella 1320 Cheltenham – (3rd 11-4) is a new recruit to the Pipe yard and looks a decent prospect on paper. Hoping he's better than these and will start his career over here with a victory.

I also like the look of So Fine 1300 Doncaster (e/w),(unplaced) Divers 1410 Doncaster, (unplaced) Counsel 1445 Doncaster (e/w) (unplaced) and an old favourite of mine who has bags of ability and could take his race at a big price Door Boy 1520 Doncaster (treble).(unplaced)

Good luck if you're having a bet and remember these are my selections, you don't have to follow them. If you are having a flutter, please bet within your means.

Aintree and Sandown tips

What a great day of racing there is ahead of us today. I'm really looking forward to seeing Sprinter Sacre take on Sanctuaire. The reigning Arkle hero oozes class yet has never really been asked any questions, is he a bridle monkey? Sanctuaire is a transformed horse now over fences and a repeat of his performances last season will certainly give the Sprinter something to think about. I will side with Sprinter just because of his raw talent, but not bet, just will enjoy the spectacle. Same thing applies to Captain Conan v Hinterland, although I fancy Hinterland to take that one if he can settle better.

I've had a pretty good week on the TweetNaps front with 4 out my last 6 naps winning! Lets hope I can keep that up with today's selection and more. The tips are below, hope they come good for us on another great Saturday. I'm placing them as two Lucky 15's but feel free to ignore them or switch them around a bit. If you are having a wager, remember to bet within your means!

KENTFORD GREY LADY 1255 Sandown (nap) – (WON 9-2) was really progressive last year and came unstuck when trying to overcome the mighty Quevaga at the festival. Must have a real good chance of starting the season with a win here today.

SAM WINNER 1325 Sandown – (unplaced) off since injured when chasing last season, seemed to hate that and with previous hurdle form taken into account he should have enough class to beat these.

INTO WAIN 1430 Sandown (nb) – (2nd 15-2) is on a decent mark from his novice form last year and he is proven on soft ground which should really help up the Sandown finish today.

GOLAN WAY 1540 Sandown – (3rd 9-2) one win from one visit here and if he is allowed to dictate from the front may take some pegging back.

WEST END ROCKER 1410 Aintree (treble) – (PU) won this last year and then really disappointed alot of National backers with a second fence fall. The slog this will be will play to his strengths and he was stayong on well last time out in the Badger Ales

SEVEN IS LUCKY 1445 Aintree – (4th 25-1) won two on soft last year and could be a real player here off a feather weight with an apprentice taking another 7 off. Will love the ground and has the scope to take this.

NACARAT 1520 Aintree – (4th 7-1) was disappobting last time out in the Old Roan when I really fancied him. Giving him another chance as he loves it here and if he is on song is a great jumper and has bags of ability.

CELTIC ABBEY 1200 Aintree – (FELL) some decent bumper form and could be a good recruit for the Hobbs yard, hopefully he will account for Oscars Magic and win
