Saturday selections

Well the less said about my selections yesterday the better, not even a place! Onwards we go with some sorrow in my heart, the reason for this is my six week holiday has come to an end and I'm back at work on Monday! Let's hope I can find a few winners today to cheer me up!

BOBOWEN 1555 NEWTON ABBOT (nap) – (unplaced) he is up 9lbs for his very impressive win in the Summer Plate at Market Rasen. He won that very comfortably that day and looked like a horse on the up. Put a line through his run at Galway in the plate as he was never travelling and I'm not sure the ground suited.

LUPO D'ORO 1405 SANDOWN (nb) – (unplaced) beat Rocket Rob here in June and that form is rock solid after that horse bolted clear yesterday, it may have been in a lesser race but this guy also ran creditably behind the pressive Glen Moss last time out and I think he has a great chance today.

BAILEYS JUBILEE 1430 BEVERLEY (treble) – (unplaced) this horse was my initial fancy for the 1000 Guineas on the back of some impressive performances as a two year old. She ran no race in the Nell Gwyn and something was clearly amiss as she hasnt been out since. Despite her poor draw I think she has a great chance and has bags of speed plus battling qualities, and three year olds have a decent record in this race too.

DOCTOR PARKES 1420 CHESTER – (unplaced) is a course and distance winner and the ground and draw to suit today. He ran well and caught my eye when staying on in the final furlong behind Bogart last time at York. From his draw today he should be up with the pace which should benefit.

ES QUE LOVE 1455 CHESTER – (3rd – 7-2) this horse deserves to win a race soon! They've tried enough! He has a good draw today and is the class horse in the race. Being ridden prominent has really helped him and that should boost his chances today, he may be hard to pass in the Chester straight.

TEMPEST FUGIT 1530 CHESTER – (unplaced) will stay the trip and could have been overlooked by a few today. He travels nicely and didjust that when winning at Lingfield in a Lister race last time.

MERCERS ROW 1505 BEVERLEY – (unplaced) has a cracking record here and especially with Danny Tudhope on board. Ran well a couple of runs ago behind Bondi Beach Boy and has a solid each way chance today.

ASATIR 1550 SANDOWN – (unplaced) will appreciate the ground today and should improve more for the step up in distance after winning quite nicely over a mile. A decent priceto bounce back today.

Friday selections

A little Lucky 15 to whet my appetite for the racing tomorrow!

JOHANNES 1545 THIRSK (nap) – (unplaced) the handicapper has given him a real chance here. He returns to his optimum trip and is down in grade. The jockey takes a valuable 5lbs off too and has a decent record on the horse.

SPITFIRE 1830 SOUTHWELL (nb) – (unplaced) over the cliff I go with this one! However, he is only 3lbs higher for a course and distance win last year and is usually stronger after a lay off.

PRESIDENT LINCOLN 1725 THIRSK (treble) – (unplaced) another one who returns after a long break. This distance is his optimum and the ground should be perfect too. I have always thought this horse is better than his current mark of 79. However, he did defeat a certain JACK DEXTER of this mark at Musselburgh last year.

RUSTY ROCKET 1500 CHESTER – (unplaced) this fella is a huge price. He returns back to 7f from running at the minimum but that shouldn't be seen as a negative in my view. He has won over 7f and will use his early speed to get a good position. He ran awfully last time and looked injured and I reckon this genuine good ground will help him too.

Ebor Day at York

Not much luck yesterday with the selections, but I did think Kingsgate Native ran well on ground not ideal! I'm writing my blog today sat on a lovely caravan site just outside Matlock. The issue is the bloody weather, yep, it's been throwing it down here all morning and last night too! We had planned a big family BBQ aswell to celebrate my niece doing so well in her GCSE's. Oh well, we can't control the weather and it's seriously affected the horses at York. Below are my selections for today, good luck if you're having a flutter!

HANOVERIAN BARON 1550 YORK (nap) – (unplaced) he was due to run yesterday but sneaks in here off bottom weight. He has been running very well all year and was travelling really well at Haydock before being hampered slightly. Was doing his best work at the end and this step up in trip should suit. The claimer takes another 5lbs off and in the forecast rain-soaked ground it could prove crucial. Each way selection though.

VALBCHEK 1555 NEWMARKET (nb) – (unplaced) ran a cracking race on his belated return and has a fair bit of ability. TAAYEL defeated him that day but I reckon he will ge loads better after the run, big chance.

LANCELOT DU LAC 1630 NEWMARKET (treble) – (WON – 3-1) ran eyecatchingly well last time over 7f and just faded up the hill towards the finish. The drop back to 6f should suit and the rain should help too. Big run expected from me today.

PYTHAGOREAN 1455 GOODWOOD – (unplaced) has been running consistently well and has wins on fast and good ground. The rain I don't think has affected the ground at Goodwood as much and this fella has a good chance at this trip today.

MIDNITE ANGEL 1420 GOODWOOD – (unplaced) another horse running really well and has the ability to go in. She has decent form through her narrow defeat to J Wonder, although it was let down at York earlier. She holds Amazing Maria through that form and should win today.

SIRIUS PROSPECT 1405 YORK – (WON – 5-2) finally got his nose back infront over course and distance in July and never got competitive at Glorious Goodwood from a poor draw. I'm hoping he can bounce back again as he has some serious form from a few years back.

ELIDOR 1440 YORK – (unplaced) I really rate Martin Harley as a jockey, but last time on this horse he got it wrong and never got him in the race. He will stay this trip I have no doubt and the jockey will make up for his last error today and get him competitive earlier on. He was a Royal Ascot winner don't forget and I think he will take this today over an extended distance.

WILSHIRE BOULEVARD 1515 YORK – (2nd – 4-1) won last time out after finding 5f too sharp at Royal Ascot, plus it was on the back of a success just a few days prior and it may have come too soon. He should appreciate the ground today and he looks like an improving horse.

Friday at York

I haven't had much time over the last two days to do a blog. I had a great nap today, if you follow me on twitter you will have seen me nap MONT RAS at 25-1 and then follow that up with this girl above, THE FUGUE at 5-2. Let's hope Friday can be as good!

GLEN'S DIAMOND 1430 YORK (nap) – has a pretty decent record here, and won here in May. He has form on quick ground aswell as soft and with the overnight rain co ing his chances have improved moreso. with little pace on and if they ride him prominent he has the battling qualities and a touch a ability to take this.

KINGSGATE NATIVE 1540 YORK (nb) – this fella has been running consistently well all year. The rain affected ground shouldn't be too much of a hinderance, and he has won here previously, including this race. Robert Cowell says he has found the secret to him! I hope he has, but I reckon he has a great each way chance anyway and I think the others will set it up for him.

GABRIAL 1505 YORK (treble) – this one is a quirky horse, but has bags of class on a going day! I still think for him the quicker the ground the better and his best run for me was on firm fround at Haydock. If tomorrow in his mind is a going day then he could run a big race!

Good luck if you're having a flutter!

Saturday selections

What a feast of racing there is on offer today. With some fantastic horses competing in Group races and tough handicaps, and all this with York's Ebor meeting on the horizon! We're certainly in for a treat or two over the upcoming week. Enjoy the racing today and good luck if you are having a bet, hopefully I can find a few winners and the Saturday nap again!

LASTCHANCELUCAS 1545 CHESTER (nap) – (2nd – 4-1) really caught the eye last time out when finishing a very close sixth at Pontefract, despite running wide and being hampered in running. That run was much more like what he is capable of and will have more chance if the forecast rain falls too. Really confident about this ones chances today.

SECRETINTHEPARK 1455 NEWMARKET (nb) – (2nd – 13-2) won well here earlier in the season and looked a decent animal. Looked back to that level when third here last time. Today he is much better off in the weights than he was with the two infront of him last time, and that could prove pivotal.

MAGLIETTA FINA 1420 NEWMARKET (treble) – (unplaced) has some decent form in Italy, particularly on good ground. Has taken time to adapt to British racing judged on the last two runs. The rain that has fallen will help as I think last time the ground was a little quick. Has been kept on the same mark as the last run amd I think has a big chance judged on that today.

BLANC DE CHINE 1615 DONCASTER – (unplaced) has a very good strike rate and the application of a hood today should help the concentration further. Ultra consistent at Class 3 and 4 and has won on good and good to firm ground, has a good chance here today.

CORNISH PATH 1350 NEWMARKET – (unplaced) followed up her earlier Kempton success with a very encouraging second last time here. Has a chance to go one better today.

CHOOSEDAY 1450 RIPON – (4th – 6-1) has been running really well of late and won on this day at Chester last year! He is a dual 6f winner and ran very well at Glorious Goodwood last time in a hot race. Has a great chance from stall 1.

BLAINE 1530 RIPON – (unplaced) I need my head looking at with this one! However, I am still convinced this horse is much better than he's been showing! He won the Gimcrack last year and despite showing absolutely zip so far this year, he may be falling to a mark that befits his ability. Willing to give him one more go. BACCARAT was just getting going when he was badly hampered by the terrible fall involving Amy Ryan last time, and could run a big race. As could SECRET WITNESS, whose chances I really like, despite his draw.

My final two selections come at Newbury.

I'M YOUR MAN 1440 NEWBURY – (unplaced) suffered a head defeat last time to Lost in the Moment when conceding weight to that rival. They are both off level weights today and that could prove the telling fact as I think my selection will out battle his old foe in the closing stages

SOFT FALLING RAIN 1515 NEWBURY – (2nd – 9-4) this horse really is class, and has looked every bit a superstar this year. The Dubai form isn't that hot but I reckon he has way more class than the rivals today and should win this easy enough.

The Persona Protocol

This is a step away from Andy McDermott's previous novels involving Eddie and Nina, however it is equally as enthralling, action packed and engrossing.

The story revolves around Adam Gray, the lead agent in the US Government's top secret Persona Project. He and his fellow agents move around the world and use a combination of technology and drugs to import the personality and memories of key people onto Adam.

Targetting the leader of Al-Qaeda and the knowledge he possesses the team take us on a riproaring, non-stop adventure where Adam begins to realise he holds the key to a secret, one that will shatter the US Government.

Andy McDermott has given us another superb adventure here. This story is thoroughly enjoyable and those who have read his previous works will not be disappointed with this new piece of work. There is certainly room for further develoments of these characters and other adventures.

I would rate this 5 out of 5 for all readers who like this kind of writing. I loved it!

Monday selections

Well Sunday was not a good day after the success of Saturday! All of my selections ran terribly, back to the drawing board! Hopefully these three will fair better. Good luck if you're having a wager today!

DUKE OF YORKSHIRE 2030 THIRSK (nap) – (unplaced) prior to a poor run at Newmarket he ad been in good form including a decent win at Ripon prior to that. He beat AMBLESIDE that day who has since ran well a couple of times, including winning. He drops back to Class 5 level today and has a big chance.

WHISPERED TIMES 1930 THIRSK (nb) – (unplaced) returns to the scene of his last win and can bounce back after a few indifferent runs. Now running in a seller, he could have too much for his opponents today.

TRINITY STAR 1800 THIRSK (treble) – (unplaced) with a short priced favourite he is a great each way chance, and a price to match. Will improve from his first run and will appreciate the less quick ground and the extra furlong. Good chance to run to a place.

Sunday treble

A winning nap yesterday – GLENARD 11-1 – was the highlight from the blog, but I also hit the crossbar a few times too. On to today, I have highlighted a few below and at the winner, I hope, from France.

RUGOSA 1610 WINDSOR (nap) – (unplaced) has been placed in three out of five handicaps and something was obviously amiss for the poor run in January. Has been dropped 2lbs since and has a great chance back at this level.

LAUGHING ROCK 1455 LEICESTER (nb) – (unplaced) won over course and distance last month and it could be the same today with a strongly run race to suit.

PORT ALFRED 1625 LEICESTER (treble) – (unplaced) won easily here last time and a repeat of that will see him hard to pass. Could make a mockery of this handicap mark.

ALJAMAHEER 1445 DEAUVILLE – (unplaced) loads to like about his performances this year, and while this is a big step up I think he has a big chance of running to at least a place in this. I'm on each way as 18-1 is a huge price.

Saturday selections

Today's blog sadly is being written back at home rather than on holiday in my caravan in lovely Cornwall. However after a pretty abysmal Glorious Goodwood I am hoping I have a turn around in form. I have been pretty poor recently on the winners front, but you have good days and bad! Today see's the pointless competition that is the Shergar Cup, a tipping minefield as the focus seems to be on the jockey's rather than the horses! I normally avoid it like the plague but have risked one selection there today. If you're having a bet today, good luck and rememeber to bet within your means.

GLENARD 1705 HAYDOCK (nap) – (WON – 11-1) there has been a hell of a lot to like about the recent performances of this horse and I think today is the day he wins. He is 5lbs better off with his latest conqueror BIG THUNDER for that defeat and with Haydock being a tough place to go and make all I reckon my boy can reverse the form today.

HOLY ANGEL 1630 HAYDOCK (nb) – (3rd – 10-1) he has twice gone close at this trip recently and all his best runs have been over 6f. He last two runs need to be ignored for me as 5f was too quick. The return to 6f and the booking of Robert Winston for the ride warrant respect

CONDUCT 1500 NEWMARKET (treble) – (unplaced) is a talented horse but seems very fragile in nature. However, has a good record fresh and on good ground. Worth taking a chance on him to beat these today.

TWEETY PIE 1600 HAYDOCK – (unplaced) won a 5f Beverley race at 50-1 for the blog a few weeks ago and has since ran well over 6f when runner up at Thirsk. He was just caught in the final furlong that day and this return to 5f should help on this quick track, raised 2lbs for that second at Thirsk, he has a big chance today.

BUSHEL 1440 ASCOT – (2nd – 17-2) this one comes with the Shergar Cup warning! However, a good win at Ripon on his handicap debut on Tuesday cannot be dismissed and despite a penalty he is open to further improvement.

EDUCATE 1420 HAYDOCK – (3rd – 8-1) my original pick for this race TRES CORONAS is a non runner. So I'm opting for Ismail Mohammed's horse who has been very unlucky in his last few runs and as early season runs showed, he is a capable horse. Today, it could all fall right and he has a. Added bonus of Jonny Murtagh on board!

MIDNITE ANGEL 1535 NEWMARKET – (2nd – 3-1) last week's run behind J Wonder here at Newmarket was a cracker and it showed some of the class I saw in when she was just pipped at Warwick earlier this year. I thought she looked at least a Listed class filly that day and she is entitled to a crack at Group level. The step up should suit amd Frankie will know her better after last week!
