Brown Panther ensured Day 3 was a good one for me with success in the Goodwood Cup. I was pretty sure the extra disance would suit and he proved me right, he could now turn into a serious cup horse. The nap AUSSIE REIGNS also ran a belter taking a dead heat for second at a huge 25-1. Let's hope Friday is better still.
KINGSGATE NATIVE 1515 GOODWOOD (nap) – he has been a much better horse this year and after a disappointing run at the Royal meeting he ran well in defeat to Tickled Pink last time. He's got a 4lb penalty to contend with but on his day would make mincemeat of these. More importantly for me he has course form too, winning this in 2009 and he also has a place to his name. His is back to his very best and I'm hopeful of another big run.
CAPE PERON 1445 GOODWOOD (nb) – he was and has been very impressive so far, no more so than when waltzing away with victory at Doncaster. He ran well in the Britannia, but that is a race that takes some winning. I think he is a better horse than this level and must have more to come, the slightly easier ground should help too.
MASTERSTROKE 1355 GOODWOOD (treble) – any horse bringing an Arc third into any race demands respect. This is a group 3 and on paper he should trounce this lot. The only negative to me is that it is his seasonal debut, but class is class.
MONTIRIDGE 1430 GOODWOOD – this fella has improved in every run and followed up an unlucky second in the Jersey Stakes with a Listed win last time. Another to add to the list of Hannon/Hughes winners this week
NARGYS 1650 GOODWOOD – this horse is a quandry. She was heading towards one of the favourites in the 1000 Guineas before he flop in her trial race. She then ran an absolte cracker at Royal Ascot and was flying at the end, then we had Sandown and poor again. I really think she is a class filly and think the galloping track will suit her, she could show her true colours at last!
Also I have a couple of eyecatchers elsewhere on the day. I put MAYOMAN 1950 MUSSELBURGH in my book after a good run at Newcastle last time. He has run against some top horses in his past is back down to a winning mark. I also like CLASSICAL DIVA 1530 THIRSK – she's a half sister to Mayoman and was pitched in at the deepend for her handicap debut, this is a more suitable challenge and she could bounce back.
