Glorious Goodwood Day Three

A blank was drawn yesterday other than a place for George Rooke. Kingman was impressive again and what a turn of foot he showed, accelerating faster than the mighty Frankel. The future of breeding for Juddmonte and Khalid Abdullah looks very bright with Frankel and now Kingman in the ranks. I'm pretty sure he won't run next year. Lets look forward to seeing him possibly a couple more times and then we wait for his progeny. On to today, good luck if you're having a flutter and I'll hopefully fair better than yesterday.
BROWN PANTHER 1510 GOODWOOD (nap) – I love this fella and the drop back to 2m will certainly help his cause. The ground is possibly a little firm and that may cause him a few concerns but I still think the form of his recent runs is the strongest on offer. ESTIMATE is a damn good horse but I think this shorter trip with suit my selection better. I hope the Panther wins too as it willbe nice to remember his mother who passed away this week. Hopeful of another big run from this lovely horse. I hope he runs as there are doubts until the trainer walks the track.
PUPIL 1405 GOODWOOD (nb) – the run last time behind the smart SEA DEFENCE was a much better performance and I'm hoping that that run was a reflection of his true ability and what is to come. He's stayed on the same mark for that run which is still 4lbs lower than his highest rating. This is a tougher race but I think there is much.more to come from this fella and the booking of James Doyle is a positive too. I always try and base my selections on form and previous runs and this guy comes her on the back of a cracker.
TALENT 1545 GOODWOOD (treble) – this girl was well named, but as of yet this year she hasn't really lived up to her exploits as a 3 year old. While the ground may not be the best for her I'm hoping this specialist track, with similar undulations to Epsom will help bring some balance to her. She motored at Epsom and she maybe needs an adverse camber to straighten her out. Hughesie is back on board too – I hope she runs to her capabilities today.
MAGNUS MAXIMUS 1650 GOODWOOD – won a decent race in April beating the likes of TOOFI and NAADIRR and was raised a massive 16lbs form – an indication of what the handicapper thought. He was next seen in the hugely competitive Brittania Stakes at Royal Ascot and never landed a blow. He's only been dropped a pound for that – again showing the handicapper thoughts of him. Despite being overlooked by Hughes today he's still one of the best rated in the field and has to have a cracking chance at a big price.

Glorious Goodwood Day 2

Not a bad first day on the blog with ES QUE LOVE obliging at 7-1. I was really pleased for the horse as he has ran so consistently in top races this year and now has a Group 2 to his name. On twitter I also put up Cheworee each way in the last and he came second at 25-1. On to Day 2 and hopefully a little bit more profit. I'm out all day though with my dad and the kids at the seaside, so results only!
LIEUTENANT MILLER 1350 (nap) – ran well last time at Ascot off the back of a decent season last year. He was second in this last year and third in the Ceasarewitch. He should run a big race and the ground should suit and the booking of Ryan Moore is a real plus. Should run a big race.
OBSERVATIONAL 1430 (nb) – battled well here earlier in the season on rained softened ground and its that positive attitude that makes me opt for him in this. The step up in class is a question mark but he looks a smart proposition. The ground is being watered so it shouldn't be too quick for him.
DR NO 1540 (treble) – wasn't too far off the pace in the Coventry behind the The Wow Signal and had Kodi Bear just infront of him. The form of that race is working out and I reckon he will take this over the other Hannon runner.
GEORGE ROOKE 1720 – has been runnnig consistently well and is only a pound higher than a previous winning mark. The trainer has sent it a fair way and the booking of Moore again is a real eye catcher.

Glorious Goodwood Day One

The start of the Glorious Goodwood festival. It always makes me feel summer has really arrived when it comes around. Mark Johnston uses it as a diary favourite. His string always seem to do well here, and I always seem to back his horse that lose! Lets hope its a good week, loads of Group races but some cracking handicaps too.
NICEOFYOUTOTELLME 1355 GOODWOOD (nap) (unplaced) this guy has some smart form in the book. His success at Newmarket in May is pretty strong. He won the9 furlong contest that day and had FARRAAJ back in fourth over fourth lengths behind. He has been raised 7lbs for it yet after FARRAAJ's exploits that horse is 19lbs higher in the ratings. Surely more to come. Charles Camoin I hoped would win at Ascot on Friday but the weather put pay to that. STORMACHION has 2 wins at this and looks progressive. I'm not sure SEA SHANTY will stay.
LESHA 1650 GOODWOOD (nb) – (unplaced) has improved a boat load this year and couldnt quite go with them the last time. Previous to that ran well and won a shade cosily at Haydock in a decent race against VOYAGEOFDISCOVERY. Taking on older horse here but has to have a chance of running well again.
ES QUE LOVE 1505 GOODWOOD (treble) – (WON – 7-1) he has been running very well in some smart races. I have always thougt he was better over further and this step up to 7 furlongs will help him I reckon. He was unlucky last time against MUSIC MASTER and has had good runs behind MAAREK and HAMZA earlier in the season. TOORMORE is the obvious danger but I reckon he'll struggle.
BIG THUNDER 1540 GOODWOOD – (unplaced) the Northumberland Plate was too far and too competitive for his seasonal return. This drop back to 14 f on good ground will suit better and he was very progressive last year. The Prescott yard is going much better too. Hopeful of a big run but fearful of REPEATER returning to form with Ryan Moore back on board.

King George Day

Well what a complete wash out yesterday’s blog was! All four I chose in the morning as they preferred quicker ground, by the off Ascot had been hit with a storm of biblical proportions and the going had changed to good to soft! Bloody annoying! I faired better at York in the evening with a few nice winners, notably CELESTIAL PATH for Sir Mark Prescott who looks a decent type. The weather at York looks pretty sound and I don’t think Ascot will get any more rain but I can only see that just getting to good by the off. Should be a cracking day of racing ahead, so sit back and enjoy and hopefully there are are a few winners here. I will try and ensure I get a blog up for every day at Goodwood next week if I can.

TAGHROODA 1550 ASCOT (nap) – (WON 7-2 – = £10.93) 3 year olds have a poor record in his race and fillies have a non existent one! So why my selection do you ask? The answer, this girl is special! She has been so impressive every race and yes its a massive task to overcome some top colts but she can do it! She is in receipt of 15lbs from TELESCOPE which will help and the fact that Hanagan has jumped off a Coral-Eclipse winner faster than you can say Hamdan Al-Maktoum further solidifies my claim. It’s going to be a cracking race and records are there to be broken!

GOLDREAM 1530 YORK (nb) – (2nd – 12-1 = £7.50) this boy gave me a great win on the blog on 1000 Guineas day and I’ve been waiting for him to get his ground again. He wasn’t really fancied on Guineas day and produced a cracker and with ground excuses the last twice his 6lb raise is fair. He has two seconds to his name here a the Knavesmire and the step back up to 6 furlongs will help too. I’m very hopeful of another big run.

TOOFI 1555 NEWMARKET (treble) – (unplaced = -£5.00) he is dropping down from Listed and Group company to contest this Class 2 handicap and sometimes it’s worth following the big boys when they drop down. He has good form at the top level behind Coulsty and then also ran well in defeat to Magnus Maximus earlier in the season. He could be too good for these and he is currently a very good price. Time will tell.

PASTORAL PLAYER 1515 ASCOT (unplaced = -£5.00) this is my heart ruling my head! This horse has dropped to a very nice mark. It is on the back of a very barren run however! The Royal meeting showed it proved sensible to stick with high numbers in these races, but with the ground being a bit softer the near side can prevail. He is drawn trap one and has the likes of Field of Dream, Don’t Bother Me and Ayaar around him. The pace should be quick and it may set it up for him to burst through late. He has won here over 7f on good ground and is alb lower than that now, I’m hopeful more than anything but he does have a bit of class.

My Dad’s selection are :

BRONZE ANGEL 15515 ASCOT (unplaced = -£5.00)

DESERT SOCIETY 1625 ASCOT (unplaced = -£5.00)

WINDHOEK 1455 YORK (unplaced = -£5.00)

SEE THE SUN 1530 YORK (unplaced = -£5.00)

Last week was another decent week for the blog with good place money for the nap CHANCERY and third best ROYAL RASCAL. MIDNITE ANGEL won me an absolute packet and some times its important to follow these horses who drop down a grade or two as they usually romp in as she did last week. I’ve got a rather tidy profit of £194.98 to a £2.50 each way stake – hoping to break through the £200 marker today.

There are some cracking races today and personally I think the races at Haydock are more interesting than at Sandown, but its a good day, so lets sit back and enjoy.

PALLASATOR 1530 HAYDOCK (NAP)(2nd – 7-1 = £4.37) this horse will be fine with the ground and looked a strong staying type the season before last. The Prescott yard has just got going and he has thrown a couple of winners in this week so the horses seem to be fine after their setback. Sir Mark knows how to prepare one for these big handicaps and this fella could be another good type. I actually think the drop back in trip will suit him, if they ride him handy and look to kick for home from the turn not many will get past. He has guaranteed stamina and may get a soft lead and go on from there. Or that’s what I hope!

TALENT 1455 HAYDOCK (NB) – (3rd – 7-1 = £4.37) she won the Oaks last year in convincing style and was unlucky in the Leger. It looked like she needed the run in the Coronation Cup and she never really got going, this is a much easier contest and with that run in her, she should improve. She will relish the ground and I’m expecting a dominant run. SULTANINA is my danger, she ran very well when stepped up in class last time to Group 3 and battled well to win over course and distance. Great race this.

KINGSGATE NATIVE 1405 SANDOWN (TREBLE) – (2nd – 5-1 = £3.12) I’m a massive fan of this horse and he has run well on both his starts this season, showing the old sparkle is still there. He usually pops up with a win or two each year and after a few defeats in this I think today is his day. The firmer the better for him so I hope any more rain stays away, this old boy has class and at this level he could have too much for his rivals. STEPPER POINT has really returned to form this year and ran a cracker in the Kings Stand and should be thereabouts. STEPS was flying a few runs back and just missed out at Epsom; I think his day has past. EXTORTIONIST has ran two great races recently and could be a big danger to my boy.

TRUE STORY 1550 SANDOWN (unplaced = -£5.00) Kieren Fallon thinks a lot of this horse, and he’s a good judge for me base don what he has sat on! You cannot doubt the horses ability and with question marks over his last two runs I’m willing to give him another go here. The Epsom undulations didn’t really suit last time and if Fallon can start winding him up in this home straight he may get there at the line. This race will come to soon for The Fugue for me and fillies don’t have a great record in this, nor to 3 year olds for that matter!!! If the rain came I’d be willing to put a few shekels on TULIUS who has been running well this year. To be honest I’m loping forward to just watching this, it’s the best renewal of this race we have had for a good few years.

My cliff horse of the season BURANO goes again in the 1440 at Sandown and I have to give him a go.

There will be no blog next week as I’m in Edinburgh on a stag do! Should be fun but messy!

My dad’s selections are :

STEPS 1405 SANDOWN (unplaced – £5.00)

COMPLICATE 1420 HAYDOCK (unplaced -£5.00)

VELOX 1440 SANDOWN (WON – 11-2 = £17.18)

Friday at Ascot

I fancied doing a bonus blog today. With the weather being as beautiful as it is I thought why not have a flutter! Looking forward to Glorious Goodwood next week and hopefully finding a few big priced winners in the handicaps. I hope the weather stays this good for all my six week holiday! The normal blog will return tomorrow after a few weeks break, hopefully with a bit of profit from today.
WOODLAND ARIA 1555 ASCOT (nap) – ran a pretty decent race behind Integral after a lay off last time and this filly is going places. That race was Group 2 level and with a repeat of that performance she should certainly be in the shake up here. Euro Charlene has been running very well in defeat too but I think my selection will just get the better of her at the line.
GO NANI GO 1700 ASCOT (nb) – this fella loves the rattle of firm ground and with this heat drying everything up he should get the conditions he wants. He's on his highest mark ever but the ground is key for him and with the talented Oisin Murphy on board I'm hopeful of a big run.
ELIDOR 1525 ASCOT (treble) – he won the King George V Stskes at Royal Ascot last year and runs in a way that would encourage him to stay this 2 miles. He ran a cracker first time out on much softer ground but has form on this quicker ground too. Hughesie is a big plus and I think he'll stalk them until the final two and then kick on.
CHARLES CAMOIN 1625 ASCOT – this fella had been seriously out of form until he returned here and won last time. Course and distance is now 2 from 2 and he is still a pound lower than a previous winning mark. Must have another great chance.

Super Saturday

Another pretty successful week on the blog last time with CASPIAN PRINCE winning at 9-1 and a bit of place money for HYMENAIOS. The profit is looking pretty good at the moment and I’m hoping to add to it today. There are some cracking races today and lots of horses I track running and it’s been difficult to get them down to my best four for the blog, lets hope Ive chosen wisely. Looking forward to Royal Ascot next week and will hopefully get a blog up for each day. Father’s Day tomorrow so I’m looking forward to getting my feet up! Wishing my Dad a Happy Father’s day for tomorrow too – lets hope you can catch me on the blog at some point! I’ve opened up quite a gap!

On to the races then!

DUTCH ROSE 1515 YORK (NAP) (unplaced = -£5.00) she has been raised albs for defeating SIRIUS PROSPECT the other week here and I must admit I made a note of her that day, especially as I was on the runner up! She took her York record that day to 4 runs and 4 wins and with a slight ease in the ground I think she will take all the stopping today. It’s the first time this season I’ve resisted backing FENCING who looks more and more complex to ride, hope he doesn’t decide to put his right foot forward!

CAPO ROSSO 1420 SANDOWN (NB) – (NR) it proves wise sometimes to follow a horse in form and this fella is. A commanding front running display last time at Ripon caught the eye and that was his third successive win. The ground will be ideal again and this race isn’t much hotter than the Ripon encounter so his albs hike in the ratings shouldn’t peg him back.

MAVEN 1440 YORK (TREBLE) – (unplaced = – £5.00) this mare has been really consistent this year and has a pretty decent record at the track too. Her last run behind MY SPIRIT was good and she has been left on the same mark for this. The jockey gets on well with her and I can see her running on late to take this.

CASPIAN PRINCE 1535 MUSSELBURGH (unplaced = -£5.00) this boy did us a trial favour last week and it does pay well to follow a sprinter in form. I don’t think this will have come too quick for him and he can bounce out again from the plum draw and I don’t think anything will get to him. BODY AND SOUL nearly got us a big winner the other week and he could be a real danger, but then again another three or four have real chances too. A great little race.

I also fancy a few of these each way at big prices

My Dad’s selections :

G FORCE 1455 SANDOWN (3rd – 5/4 = £0.78)

DANZENO 1550 YORK (unplaced = – £5.00)

BODY AND SOUL 1535 MUSSELBURGH (4th – 4-1 = £2.50)

FATHER +£51.59

SON +£162.17
