Aintree – Day 2

Unknown.png

Not a brilliant first day on the betting front with non of my selections getting near, the only bonus was the positive I put up for BIG FELLA THANKS, what a cracker he ran. The two top hurdlers of the season proved again how awesome they are; I couldn’t have had TEA FOR TWO with anyone’s money but fair play to a smart horse. Ive had a quick study of the big one and Ive got a few on the shortlist so far. These are :

MORE OF THAT

PERFECT CANDIDATE

ONE FOR ARTHUR

First let’s get Friday out of the way. Here are my selections.

Alder Hey Hurdle 1:40

What a competitive hurdle to get things going. NORTH HILL HARVEY is a worthy top weight and he was smart when winning the Greatwood earlier in the season, you have to forgive him his latest run at the festival, but he has a lot of weight. HAWK HIGH catches the eye as he has a very good record here. He also won the Fred Winter a few years ago. He is 8lbs higher today but has won on 2 out of 3 appearances here and is worth a look. I’m opting for DASHING OSCAR though, I fancied him at Uttoxeter the other week but he was withdrawn. He is a strong traveller and has a couple of good wins under his belt and I’m hoping for a big run.

Crabbie’s Top Novices Hurdle 2:20

MOON RACER is interesting; I thought they were crazy to go for the champion hurdle and that proved to be correct, he could run a big race here. MOUNT MEWS and HIGH SECRET are both improving and have done nothing wrong to date but I’m going for my festival selection RIVER WYLDE to run another good race. He ran well in the Supreme and I think the hustle and bustle of the race will have brought him on more.

JLT Melling Chase 3:25

GODS OWN won this last year and will run another strong race and will be pressed by FOX NORTON who will no doubt bounce off in front. He has got better and better and finished the Queen Mother so well. Im opting for another Henderson runner (my theme today!!!) though. JOSSES HILL has always had a touch of class and as yet he hasn’t quite come to the fore. He’s been dropped a few pounds and will appreciate the ground and he has won and come fourth here before; I just have a feeling!

The Topham 4:05

The warm up for tomorrow and a cracking little race on its own. EASTLAKE won it last year and if he turns up could run well again and the top weight GO CONQUER ran a cracker last time. Nicky Henderson has a cracking recent record in this and GOLD PRESENT ran very well in defeat at the festival. Keep your eye on ULTRAGOLD at a huge price as he could run a big race. I’m opting for a bit of Bond though!! I have had O O SEVEN in my notebook for a while and I’m convinced he has the winning of one of these big handicaps. He ran well at the festival behind MITE BITE over further than this; the drop back in trip is in his favour and he is a sound jumper and nice mover. If he can avoid any trouble he has a great chance. I’ve backed THOMAS BROWN a few times this year but I cant put anymore money on him after two poor shows; watch him win!!!

Selections

£5 win O O SEVEN 4:05 Aintree 20-1 Coral

Aintree day one – A dedication to James Graham

66750299_aintree_race_pa.jpg

Ive had a few weeks off the blog from Cheltenham. It takes a fair bit of study to write these blogs and after the hectic week of the festival I just needed some time to recharge my batteries. The flat season will be in swing soon and I will keep blogging throughout that too, hopefully bringing you winners in both formats of this awesome sport. I am dedicating this blog to my good friend James Graham, he regularly reads this and I saw him at the weekend to ask him if he had won by following my advice for the festival. He did with Willougby Court but denied to be greedy and put it in a win treble when the others didn’t win. He also didn’t see my tweet about Friday’s selections and missed Pacha Du Polder and Penhill. So, James, this one is for you today – I hope there’s a winner for you!! 🙂

Manifesto Novices Chase 1:45

This is a cracking little race to kick the festival off. FRODON comes into this bang in form and he has looked very good the last twice. He is clearly suited by good ground and he will make sure it is a decent pace. TOP NOTCH looked to be unlucky at the festival, he made a mistake two out which looked like it cost him the race as he was staying on well at the end. If he reproduces that tomorrow he will be hard to beat. CLOUDY DREAM ran a cracker in the Arkle but that looked to be well above what he has produced previously and he was fortunate as CHARBEL fell and the rest of the competition weren’t much good in my opinion. I’m going for a cheeky each way on MAX WARD. I was very impressed with the way he went away from the field over this trip last time at Kempton. It wasn’t a hard race and the market leaders have had some tussles of late and he will love the ground and despite this being a step up he looks very progressive. We will certainly find out, but 20-1 with Paddy Power is a huge price!

Doom Bar Juvenile Hurdle 2:20

DEFI DE SEUIL was very smart at the festival and has been all year, he will take some pegging back in this and looks the best Juve nile we’ve seen this year. I like the look of the Queen’s horse at a bigger price though. He has swerved the festival for this, will love the ground and looked smart when winning at Musselburgh last time. DIVIN BERE ran a beauty at the festival and Im fascinated to see how he gets on against the favourite.

Betway Bowl Chase 2:50

CUE CARD is the favourite for this but I have to take him on. He fell again in the Gold Cup and that will have taken its toll, the ground will also be too quick for him in my opinion and he is a definite lay. EMPIRE OF DIRT was lots of people’s banker for the festival but UN DE SCEAUX jumped them to death, he will not have to take anything like that on in this and will appreciate the better ground and I think he will get compensation here.

Betway Aintree Hurdle 3:25

Buveur D’Air was my first winner at the festival and I cant see anything beating him tomorrow, no bet, just watch and admire.

Foxhunters Chase 4:05

PACHA DU POLDER came good for me at the festival and helped me to a very profitable return with PENHILL. He ran a great race and should be thereabouts again under the same rider. This track should suit him more and with a steady run race over a shorter distance it should play even more to his strengths, I do expect them to ride him much more handy. BIG FELLA THANKS catches the eye in opposition at a cracking price.

Betway Red Run Handicap Chase 4:40

RAVEN’S TOWER has to have a cracking chance in this off a light weight. He is 1-1 here and won off a mark just one pend lower than today (OR138) when beating KEEL HAUL and PARSNIP PETE. The latter is only 2lbs better off but needs to make up 9 lengths, not going to happen. My selection has other smart form, he was beaten in a good race taken by POKER SCHOOL off a 5lb higher mark  after coming third to ULTRAGOLD. He made a bad mistake early on last time that took him out of the race. He has had time to recover and I think will run a big race.

Selections

£5win RAVEN’S TOWER 4:40 Aintree 12-1 William Hill

£5win EMPIRE OF DIRT 2:50 Aintree 5-2 William Hill

£5ew MAX WARD 1:45 Aintree 20-1 Paddy Power

Aintree and Sandown

Photo : Mike Egerton/PA

Another successful week on the blog last week following on from KRUZHLININ the week before. NATIVE RIVER was very impressive and looks a really potential superstar based on last week’s success. Looking forward to seeing how he develops during the year. On to this week, another cracking card at both Aintree and Sandown.

The Tingle Creek is the race of the day. SIRE DE GRUGY looked back to his best last time out and has won this twice and has a superb record here. UN DE SCEAUX is the favourite but I worry about his record first time out and think he now needs further. AR MAD is very interesting and has bags of scope. However, based on his last run, SIRE DE GRUGY gets the nod for me.

The Becher chase is a hell of a handicap and there are lots of trends that descimate the field. Paricularly around the age of a horse. ALVARADO has been backed all week and has a great record here, but I’m not sure this is long enough and the ground will suit. SILVERGROVE has lots of potential and shout be thereabouts after a decent run at Cheltenham last time. Alan King is starting to motor recently and ZIGA BOY, despite his age, ticks alot of boxes. He destroyed his rivals at Doncaster last year and if you can forgove the last two runs last year he has to have a chance. He’s warmed up well for this and he should be primed for a big run and I think this track will suit.

CORRIN WOOD has always been a smart horse and lost his way considerably with Donald McCain. He ran back to his best last time when eventually caught at Cheltenham by ANTEROS. This race is a huge drop in class and he is very well handicapped. The 7-2 price isnt going to last long and that could ge real value. He should breeze this.

FINGAL BAY is a very classy staying hurdler and his reappearance run was much better. This is a drop in class and despite his big weight he could and should be better than these. He is back on his last winning mark of OR148 when he won the Pertempts and that is surely his target this year. The claim from the jockey will certainly help his cause. Big run expected.

Selections :

£10 win CORRIN WOOD 245 Chepstow

£2.50 e/w FINGAL BAY 120 Sandown

£5 win SIRE DE GRUGY 3.00 Sandown

A couple of near misses last week on the blog. Fingal Bay ran well I thought but Smad Place was awesome. Can't put as much detail into the blog today as normal as I'm off to play footy shortly in a cup match….early kick off!

I've changed the style of bet for the blog too and will be putting a £1 Lucky 15 on our selections and will put the profit/loss up accordingly.

Good luck today if you're having a bet!

GOONYELLA 1340 AINTREE (nap)
He had a cracking season last year and has been raised alot in terms of his mark since running poorly in this last year. I've opted for him as I think this will take alot of getting today, and the wind will add to it. His jumping has improved and he must have a sniff.

SIRE DE GRUGY 1500 SANDOWN (nb)
He is the best rated of these and despite his poor track record since injury he still has the ability to win this. He has a great record here and the yard is in much better form. He has chucked in a couple of bad jumps recently and will need to be on it through the railway fences. I just think he'll do it today.

QUALANDO 1445 AINTREE (treble)
Smart horse and the ground will be no issue for him. I think he'll run a big race today and will improve further for the last run. You can't dismiss a horse like this.

AWAYWITHTHEGREYS 1400 CHEPSTOW
Has won twice here over course and distance and on heavy ground. He will love this testing run today and had a good few decent runs on the flat. Expecting a big run from him today.

The Grand National

Here we are then! The big one! The Grand National is here, the world's greatest steeplechase. Millions will be watching, hundreds of thousands will be there – what a spectacle it is! I hope first and foremost that all the horses and jockeys come back safe and sound. The changes that have been made to the track should encourage this and it will prevent these do gooders chirping up about horse safety too. It will be a cracking race – I'm hoping I've got the winner for the first time in 25 years!! See my report below for my four selections for the race.
This is what the twitter gamble guys are going for in the race :
@Tonythetyke – FIRST LIEUTENANT
@Fernando_RFC2 – AL CO
@DazGilbert1 – SAINT ARE
@Liamkenniford – ROCKY CREEK

Here are my selections for today :
MANDY'S BOY 1650 CHEPSTOW (nap) (Unplaced = -£5.00)
Has spits and spots of decent form last year behind the like of MANJAKANI at Stratford and AGREEMENT at the same venue. He seemed to run better last time and the handicapper has given him a real chance. His last winning mark was OR115 on good ground. His mark today is OR103. He is incredibly well handicapped, has a light weight and must run well.

Mersey Novices Hurdle 1330
Nichols Canyon was very well supported in Neptune at Cheltenham but could never land a blow and I'm not convinced he willbe able to today either. AS DE MEE deserves this step up in class after some really good performances and is interesting. PARLOUR GAMES is a worthy favourite after his second in the Neptune but I'm optimg for what looks like a progressive horse in THREE MUSKATEERS (3rd – 7-1) He won well at Wetherby earlier in the season and then followed that up with a battling win in a Grade 2 hurdle at Warwick in January. He missed the festival for this and despite it being another step up he looks a promising horse.

Doom Bar Maghull Novices Chase 1405
God's Own ran a cracker in the Arkle and showed his previous ability in that race. Could he have burnt his bridges though by really trying to go after Un De Sceaux in that race? I'm opting for COURT MINSTREL (treble)(Unplaced) who also ran well in the Arkle and was ridden sensibly after his chance had gone but he still stayed on for fifth. He will love the ground and has a touch of class as we saw last year here when he won a competitive hurdle here off a big weight. He has the ability I have no doubt to win this.

Silver Cross Stayers Hurdle 1450
COLE HARDEN caused a but of an upset by winning the World Hurdle and he got a bit of a start on them that day. On this flatter track I don't think he'll get that today and I think he'll struggle. I'm going for ZARKANDAR (unplaced) who ran such a good race at Cheltenham considering he made such a bad mistake two out. To keep going and make third was really impressive and shows how good he is. This track will suit and I think he'll run a big race and will win this.

Betfred Handicap Chase 1525
I'm not betting on this race as nothing really appeals – however DUKE OF LUCCA (WON 9-2) goes again this year off a mark 3lbs higher than what he won it off last year and has a good chance.

The Crabbies Grand National 1615
I've opted for four in this and I'll take them in order of preference. MON PARRAIN (nb) (unplaced = -£5.00) is my first choice. He has always been a smart horse and despite his quircks he has loads of ability. He has ran well over these fences, getting pipped in the Topham a few years ago and he ran well behind OSCAR TIME in the Becher in December. He then showed his class for this jockey when jumping for fun from the front and winning at Cheltenham on New Year's Day. He will love the fences and the ground and if he gets near the front and in a nice rhythm he could run a cracker at a big price. AL CO is my second choice, he ran well when winning the Scottish National last year and meets lots of the trends for past winners of the big one. He has been well prepared for this and the form of the Scottish National is tobe taken into account these days. Next up is ROCKY CREEK he looked really well last time and is well in with his rating from when the handicap was given. He could be a grades horse running in a handicap. There were question marks against him last year but he answered those and he has a huge chance today. Finally I'm opting for FIRST LIEUTENANT who has been a decent horse in his time and it seems Mouse Morris has got a bit of the old sparkle back, the trip is the worry but that is always the case in this marathon event! Good luck is needed for anything to win this and I'm hoping my four give me a good run for my money.

Aintree Day Two

What a great first day of the festival that was. Thrills and spills a plenty! I was staggered to read on twitter that people were questioning Ruby Walsh's ability and also that there may be some wrong doings going on due to Annie Power and Arctic Fire falling at the last. I was flabbergasted to be honest, how can anyone who follows racing think that anyone would make a horse fall on purpose and risk the lives of the jockeys and horses, please! Give us a break and stop talking through your pocket! It's the name of the game and sometimes horses fall! It put a sour taste in my mouth after a great first day! That's enough of that now, it's off my chest and done…we move on. It was a decent day on the blog with CLARCAM (5-1) winning, photo above courtesy of Fran (@Riosrider2) and then some good runs for HOLYWELL, PACHA DU POLDER and ROCK ON RUBY. I called the lifeguards out to come and get me when I fell off the cliff with KATGARY in the last!!

On to today, ladies day and god knows what sights we'll see!! Some cracking racing again though and I'm down to three for the big one tomorrow – MON PARRAIN, ROCKY CREEK and FIRST LIEUTENANT. Whatever you're on today good luck!

Alder Hey Children's Charity Hurdle 1340
Another cracking handicap to try and solve on day two. THEINVAL won very well last time and despit a 10lb rise I'm sure he will be there again. I have put a few shillings on DELL' ARCA this year but he just hasn't just got going properly, if he does he has a chance. PEARL SWAN has been well supported and Nicholls continues to persevere with him. I'm opting for MIJHAAR (treble) (Unplaced) though, he ran well here over course and distance and got caught a little wide at Cheltenham. This flatter track and better ground will brimg out his falt racing attributes and he has been dropped another 2lbs to a mark of OR137. He has to run well today!

E-Lites Top Novices Hurdle 1415
Now this is a cracking contest. You can make a strong arguement for a lot of these. CARDINAL WATER has looked very good so far and was only geaten by QEWY but he was giving him 6lbs that day, level weights today so I can see those two switching order and despite QEWY bringing possibly the best form to the race I don't think either will win. GLINGERBURN has done nothing but improve this year, he beat BRISTOL DE MAI easily last time and he ran well yesterday. He's fresh and could run a big race. I'm opting for VAGO COLLONGES (nap)(2nd – 7-1) though, this looked his optimum trip last time and he has run consistently well all year. He will be suited by a strongly run race to come from off the pace and he will surely get that today. The better ground will also be in his favour to. I expect a big run and to come and swoop late after the last.

Mildmay Novices Chase 1450
This is not the best renewal in my eyes. Firstly SAPHIR DU RHEU is a smart staying hurdler and if he jumps, which there are doubts about, he will win. He is very short though. Jumping needs to be a premium in this and at the pace it will be run. I'm opting for CAROLE'S DESTRIER (unplaced) to win. He has some pretty solid form coming into this and was raised 10lbs for a good win in Listed company at Ascot. He since went out and won without breaking sweat and is a progressive sort who should be thereabouts.

MELLING CHASE 1525
Now this is more like it! What a fantastic race this is on paper! SIRE DE GRUGY (Fell) hasn't shown his best yet this year but there were signs of him coming back at Cheltenham. I really think this extended trip for him willnow be his distance and he may not be able to go with the young guns over two miles. He has bags of class and I think he'll show that today and take this. AL FEROF is a real danger and goes so well fresh, he was very impressive last time and he has the ability to kick on. If BALDER SUCCES turns up he also has a sniff. Sit back and enjoy the best race of the day!

Topham Chase 1605
The warm up for the big one! It's always run at a hectic pace and as we saw yesterday some of them go too quick and fall at the first, plus you need that bit of luck. HUNT BALL will love this and he has slipped to a pretty decent mark and should run well. BENNY'S MIST really impressed me with his jumping last time when just getting collared by SOUND INVESTMENT and a repeat of that gives him a chance. I'm selecting RUBEN COTTER (unplaced) though, he was very good last time after a mamoth lay off and cruised to the front. He has been raised 10lbs for that but he had heaps in hand that day and Nicholls has trained him for this and is very bullish about his chances. I expect another big run, he could make a mockery out of this.

Doom Bar Sefton Novices Hurdle 1640
THOMAS BROWN (nb) (unplaced) really disappointed me at Cheltenham. He has sime superb form in the book. He beat VAGO COLLONGES at Exeter in November and then followed that up by a close second to OUT SAM and he had TEA FOR TWO behind that day who destroyed the field in the Lanzarote. Before his festival disappointment he beat ROBINSFIRTH at Cheltenham and had AS DE MEE miles behind him. This trip is still an unknown but he's git bags of ability I think and something could have been amiss last time. I'm willing to give him another go based on this smart form. This flatter track may well suit too. MINELLA ROCCO has been ultra impressive so far and he could be anything, I'm happy to watch him in this contest today at his price, but he's one for the future. BLAKLION has a chance if he returns to earlier form he has shown.

Weatherby's NH Flat Race 1715
I don't really follow these races much. I'm opting for Mullins' best placed horse from the festival BELLSHILL (2nd – 7-1) to run a little closer today.

Aintree Day One

Day one of the Aintree festival. Usually it pays to side with horses who have swerved Cheltenham, however this year we've had a slightly longer break between the two. Whatever happens over the next few days I'm sure we're in for a right treat, there are some great races to watch and a few tricky handicaps to try and solve. We of course then have the biggest puzzle of them all – The Grand National! My record in the big one just isnt great, the last time I won I think I was eight! I'm now 35!!! However, I have an antepost ticket on MON PARRAIN at 50-1 after he won for the blog on New Year's Day. I'm chuffed the ground will be on the better side for him and also chuffed that Sean Bowen rides. He has a great chance and I reckon he'll run a cracking race! I'll probably pick another couple but haven't made my mind up yet!
Here are my selections for Day One. Good luck with whatever you back and I hope you win!

Manifesto Novices Chase 1340
A small but distinct field and a few with obvious chances. The main one is VIBRATO VALTAT who should have been UN DE SCEAUX's main rival in the Arkle, but he never ran a true race. I'm not sure whether he will get this trip? JOSSES HILL has flattered to deceive this year and I don't think his jumping will hold up. I'm opting for CLARCAM (WON 5-1), he may also not get the trip but I prefer his chances with Ruby on board. He was put in his place in the Arkle too but he really caught my eye in the Fred Winter last year and was unlucky when falling. He has had a couple of solid runs this year and doesn't have either VAUTOUR or UN DE SCEAUX to overcome.

Betfred Juvenile Hurdle 1415
HARGAM will be a short priced favourite for this based on his third in the Triumph. The Nicholls pair really don't do it for me. I'm opting for INTENSE TANGO (unplaced). She struggled against her male counterparts last time but she comes here fresh and will enjoy the better ground. Her weight allowance may also support her speed at these weights and help her overcome her rivals this time. She looked a decent horse when putting PASS THE TIME and ANIFILET in their place at Doncaster.

Betfred Bowl Chase 1450
HOLYWELL (nb) (3rd – 5-2) was my tip for the Gold Cup and is my tip here. He ran a cracker at Cheltenham and it was a shame the ground swung to the soft side that day as I really thought he would win the race. SILVINIACO CONTI misfired that day and on this ground I can't see him reversing placings with my tip. MA FILLEULE is a tough mare and she will be there at the finish. HOLYWELL has the class, the jumping ability and the ground to beat all his rivals.

Doom Bar Aintree Hurdle 1525
JEZKI comes here with a real chance of giving the champ another victory in his swansong. ARCTIC FIRE has been ultra-consistent this year too and must have a decent chance. However, I have to opt for my old favourite ROCK ON RUBY (2nd 7-2) though. He missed the festival and will be fresh. Despite being 10 years old he can still mix it with the young guns. He has a good record here and produces good efforts on better ground. I think he'll battle up the finishing straight with the other two above and his heart will bring him out on top.

Crabbies Fox Hunters Chase 1605
Only one horse here for me. PACHA DU POLDER (nap) (2nd 7-1) is a horse I always followed and has made a brilliant start in this sphere. My selection improves so much on better ground and I'm expecting a big run tomorrow. He started out this year being beaten by TEAFORTHREE on soft ground and he then won easily on good ground at Ludlow. He's a nice mover and a smart jumper. He is closely matched with BIG FELLA THANKS on old form and I expect both of them to be fighting it out up the finish.

Betfred Red Rum Chase 1640
CLARET CLOAK will enjoy the better ground and ran well last time behind ULCK DU LIN at Ascot. He runs well fresh but 11st 12lbs is a lot to carry in this. Even a 5lb taken off by Sean Bowen may not be enough. BABY MIX fascinates me; he's been off for a while and was a smart hurdler on good ground. With this break to overcome and a return to form needed he may not do it, but he's well treated on his old form. I'm opting for TED VEALE (treble) (unplaced) he's down to his last winning mark of OR141, which he's won twice at. He has got a nice weight and has good form when the ground is better. He also has a strong form line through CLARCAM and I think he'll run a big race!

Injured Jockeys Fund Handicap Hurdle 1715
The last race on day one and it's a cracker to try and solve! DALAWAN is smart yet disappointed last time behind CALL THE COPS, can he recapture his form? CALL THE COPS has been raised another 7lbs for that win and I think he's handicapped to the max now. LAC FONTANA could really improve for the extra distance amd is worth a saver! UNIQUE DE COTTE and my old favourite JOIN THE CLAN deserve praise and should run well. Now this is where I get silly! I have followed KATGARY (unplaced) all year based on his efforts last season and I was and still am convinced he's a smart horse. Good ground I'm sure is key and with a little bit of confidence back in him for winning in a lower class last time I think he'll run well. He is carrying a stone less than he did last time too. My advice here, ignore me, I'd go over the White Cliffs for this one!!

The Bandit hasn’t got the time to write an in-depth blog today. Taking my girls swimming, daddy duties call! Its been a busy old week with no other than OFSTED rolling up to the Bandit’s workplace! We had some positive news however!

My selections today are as follows :

MON PARRAIN 1330 AINTREE (NAP)(unplaced = -£5.00) what a ridiculous price this fella is. Ran really well here when second a couple of years ago and I had him when he won well at Cheltenham. His recent spin will have brought him on loads and I’ve always thought he was a proper horse. The slightly better ground will hep him too.

HINTERLAND 1500 SANDOWN (NB) – (3rd 12-1 = £7.50) this horse I have always liked too and he has been a bit hit and miss lately. Nicholls has a great record in this and Fehily on board is a real plus. He likes it here and I think he will run a big race.

HOLYWELL 1440 AINTREE (TREBLE) – (FELL = -£5.00) my old favourite! His recent spin at Carlisle will have sharpened him up and with Richie back on board he will taker this today despite the stable being a bit quiet.

ROLLING ACES 1515 AINTREE (4th 8-1 = £4.50) ran a cracker last time behind WISHFULL THINKING and I said then to lump on the next time he is out. Drops in class and will take the beating in this today!

The blog returns after a couple of weeks off due to my busy schedule! My dad has put in a real late burst over the past couple of weeks and he tipped up both INTEGRAL (7-2) and INTRANSIGENT (16-1) – his second big priced winner in a row. Its narrowed the weekly competition to 14-15 as we head into this final week.Profit stands at £170.12 to me compared to £125.06 to him. Another big winner or two will see him possibly win but with the returns of the jumps I’m confident of holding on today! We will start the competent form scratch again next week for the jumps season. We’re both NH lovers so hopefully the blog will produce some good winners for everyone over the winter months! The flat season is brought to a close today with the Racing Post Trophy being the highlight, it’s been another cracker with some real standout performances. My horse of the summer has to be TAGROODHA though, awesome filly!

Enjoy the racing today and hopefully we’ll give you winner or two again on the blog!

CELESTIAL PATH 1550 DONCASTER (NAP) (3rd – 6-1 = £3.75) I have backed this fella on both his runs this year and was wondering where Sir Mark would send him next. It’s unusual to see the Prescott yard send out a horse in a race like this, but hen they do you have to sit up and take notice. Think of CONFIDENTIAL LADY, HOORAY, ALBORADA. This guy has looked a smart proposition and is well bred, running green on both starts but still having the class to see it out in the closing stages. The ground is a bit unknown but his breeding (FOOTSTEPSINTHESAND/HAWKWING) indicates it shouldn’t be a problem. I really excited about this horse, particularly next season as a 3 year old. A big race run I reckon today!

ELUSIVITY 1515 DONCASTER (NB) – (unplaced = -£5.00) I’ve settled for this guy over another two who have recent form but I think their mark will catch them out; those being DUNGANNON and KICKBOXER. I’ve opted for this selection as the ground being truly soft brings his past form more into play and he is now running off a very appealing mark, albs lower than this time last year. He has a high draw, a feather weight and the ground well in his favour. 20-1 as I write this could be a silly price, a great each way chance in my opinion.

ROLLING ACES 1500 AINTREE (TREBLE) – (3rd 8-1 = £5.00) The Nicholls’ string have generally needed a run, but this fella is a class horse and I’m expecting big things from him this season. His second to BOSTON BOB over course and distance join April was a cracking run and with the ground being decent it will allow him to show his true colours. He does have a high mark but I think he will go on to better things this year after this, and will a solid round of jumping he must have a great chance.

THE PIRATES QUEEN 1535 CHEPSTOW – (3rd 7-2 = £2.18) this mare is waiting for her first hurdles win. She has ran well in a few races last year, particularly with a bit of cut in the ground. She was put in her place by As I Am when going off favourite at Cheltenham last time out but the ground wasn’t soft enough that day. Today she has a nice weight allowance and the excellent O’Regan on board. I think she will be really competitive.

My Dad’s selections are :

GLORIOUS PROTECTOR 1420 NEWBURY (unplaced = -£5.00)

EMERAHLDZ 1440 DONCASTER (unplaced = -£5.00)

UXIZANDRE 1500 AINTREE (unplaced = -£5.00)

DUNGANNON 1515 DONCASTER (WON 13-2 = £20.58)

The big race day has arrived! First and foremost lets hoe these wonderful creatures all get round safely. Secondly lets enjoy the spectacle! A decent couple of runs on the blog yesterday with HOLYWELL winning for me again. What a horse he is proving to be and now favourite for the Gold Cup!!! My nap also ran a cracker, ROLLING ACES (16-1) was just pipped after running a corker and showing his true form. How impressive was MA FILLEULLE too, I thought she might run a decent race as I said on the blog, but she;s a brave one and oozing a bit of class! On to today, my Dad has a few selections as always and you can see our latest results below. He will be reading this in his hospital bed after having a knee replacement surgery! Hope you’re doing well Dad x

TIDAL BAY 1615 AINTREE (NAP) – (UR = -£5.00) I’m sure if you’ve read my blog a lot you will know how much I love this horse! If he wins today it will most certainly bring down the curtain on a fantastic career. Everyone keeps saying no 13 yo has won it, he’s too old etc. Not me, he’s been dropped a good few pounds by the handicapper to gives him a real go at this and when the weights came out I lumped on ante-post at 25-1. The rain I think has arrived so it could be soft at the off, he has bags of stamina and if he thereabouts at the last fence the run in should bring about all his qualities. If he runs well he may stay in training too! Go on the old boy show ’em what you’re all about! My other selection in the race is the other Wylie horse PRINCE DE BEAUCHENE, he was favourite twice for this before injury and he has been looked after this year. Ruby rode such a gentle arc eon him at Thurles when he had every chance to win, I thought then I wonder what they are saving him for!

COURT MINSTREL 1710 AINTREE (NB) (WON – 16-1 = £50.00) this horse produced two fantastic runs under this jockey last year and is worth another chance. He beat SAMTEGAL easily last year and is dropped a couple of pounds, he has lots of weight to carry but for a reason, he’s the class horse in the race and is rated 8 lbs better than the next horse. If he’s on song he’ll murder them.

HINTERLAND 1405 AINTREE (TREBLE) – (unplaced = -£5.00) was running a cracker in the champion chase before being brought down, he may not of beaten Sire de Grugy but he would have been close. I think he’ll win this today, he looks a different horse this year, jumps smoothly and quickly, and will enjoy the ground. Great chance

WHISPER 1450 AINTREE – (WON – 4-1 = £12.50) we know the likes of At Fisher’s Cross and Zarkandar are very good but this horse has really impressed me this year and he appears to be very progressive. I think he’s got more improvement in him and could be the surprise package here outside the top two.

I also fancy a little flutter on GULLINBURSTI 1525 (3rd – 10-1) who ran an much improved race last time at Kelso of a big weight, with less in then saddle today and another bold show he can take this race too.

My Dad’s selections are :

LAC FONTANA 1330 (WON – 9-2 = £14.06)

BALDER SUCCES 1405 (WON – 7-2 = £10.94)

MELODIC RENDEZVOUS 1450 (unplaced = -£5.00)

RENARD 1525 (unplaced = -£5.00)

His national selections are TIDAL BAY and BALTHAZAR KING.

Good luck if you’re having a flutter!
