AP McCoy’s Farewell

Its the last day we will see the greatest sportsman ever in action! Words have been said, printed and tweeted since we got the retirement news. There are nothing but superlatives being said about The Champ and rightly so! To me I just arise Sir Anthony! A legend, a role model, an ambassador and a hero!
This is the last NH blog of the season and me and my Dad will reset the scores next week ready for the flat season proper. He's up in winning weeks 10-9 but I'm ahead on profit. I've not put anything on the blog for a while that's run well and I'm hoping that changes today!!

Here are my selections :

DUKE OF LUCCA 1550 SANDOWN (nap) (Unplaced = -£5.00)
He's officially well in here and is on the same mark (OR137) that he was when winning well at Aintree last time. He's also got less weight on his back and I think this step up in trip will help. The Hobbs yard are back in form and Johnson knows how to ride this fella and the horse's battling qualities will help him out for sure. It's a hell of a race but I think he has a ceacking chance.

VIBRATO VALTAT 1515 SANDOWN (nb) (unplaced = -£5.00)
Looked a smart prospect earlier in the year and has struggled with how the race has been run. He tried to take on the favourite in the Arkle and then the race at Aintree was run too steadily. Today the race should be run at a fast tempo which should suit and the ground will also.

CAPO ROSSO 1420 HAYDOCK (treble) (2nd – 14-1 = £8.75)
I've followed this horse for a while and the one thing he loves is quicker ground and to get at them from the front. He'll get that today and may be hard to pass at Haydock. I still think he is a 100+ rated horse and is still only five. His couple of all weather runs will have sharpened him up for this and I think he will run a good race at a big price.

NAKUTI 1615 LEICESTER (unplaced = -£5.00)
Really caught my eye when behind in a Listed race at Kempton last time. She looked like the trip was a little too far for her last time and this drop back to 7f plus her weight allowance will help. Ryan Moorerode her that day and is back in the plate today. That run will give her the fitness edge over ALJAMAHEER and COULSTY I think.

My Dad's selections are :
LIL ROCKERFELLER 1400 SANDOWN (WON 5-1 = £15.62)
VIBRATO VALTAT 1515 SANDOWN (unplaced = -£5.00)
VICS CANVAS 1550 SANDOWN (2nd – 12-1 = £7.50)
L'AIGLE ROYAL 1625 SANDOWN (unplaced = -£5.00)

Goodwood Day 4

Another damp squib yesterday with no winners. Goodwood is as competitive as ever and while I'm not having much luck I'm really enjoying the spectacle, bar one thing : Gok Wan! Why do Channel 4 and the BBC for that matter feel the need to waste time on fashion! Who gives a shit! Everyone is there for the day out, to watch these fine beasts and to hopefully have a winner or two, not decide whether its a Fendi or Armani outfit. Please do one! Why cant we have more pieces from the superb Alastair on the history of Goodwood and its races for pity's sake. Anyway on to the horses, lets hope these fair better today.

KINGSGATE NATIVE 1540 GOODWOOD (nap) – what a servant is guy has been! He won is race back in 2009 off a mark 4lbs higher than today. He was a narrow second last time to EXTORTIONIST in the Coral Charge at Sandown. The winner got 5lbs off him that day, today its only 3lbs and that little difference is all it takes at times. He will love the ground and has course form, and is a big price in my opinion – get on!

J WONDER 1650 GOODWOOD (nb) – what a cracking race this is! My girl ran a beauty for the blog when she rompted in in the Fred Darling Stakes at Newbury. I've always thought she was a good one and has bags of speed, she beat the likes of JOYEUSE comfortably that day. Two stints in Group 1 company over a mile in the French 1000 Guineas and the Coronation Cup were steps too far. This return to 7f and Group 3 company will get the best out of her.

SHIFTING POWER 1430 GOODWOOD (treble) – was undefeated and highly touted going into the 2000 Guineas and finished a creditable 4th to NIGHT OF THUNDER. He was then the closest to KINGMAN when he trounced the field in the Irish 2000 Guineas, a third in the Prix Jean Prat has followed, again run on softer ground. The return to quicker ground will help as will the drop in class to Group 3. Massive chance.

PETHERS MOON 1355 GOODWOOD – has been running consistently well all year. Second to both GOSPEL CHOIR and GATEWOOD and he is only 2 lbs higher for those runs today. Arguably his best performance based on yesterday, was his second to CAVALRYMAN in the Prince of Wales Stakes at Newmarket. A repeat of that run should finally see him get a deserved head in front.

CAPO ROSSO 1505 GOODWOOD – won 3 on the bounce earlier in the season beating the likes of GWORN and BOLD PREDICTION with game front running performances. The last two runs have been disappointing and the handicapper may have his mark. However, I think this fast, undulating track will eek out more improvement in him and I hope to see him kick on from the turn as they may not get to him.

Super Saturday

myWPEdit Image

Another pretty successful week on the blog last time with CASPIAN PRINCE winning at 9-1 and a bit of place money for HYMENAIOS. The profit is looking pretty good at the moment and I’m hoping to add to it today. There are some cracking races today and lots of horses I track running and it’s been difficult to get them down to my best four for the blog, lets hope Ive chosen wisely. Looking forward to Royal Ascot next week and will hopefully get a blog up for each day. Father’s Day tomorrow so I’m looking forward to getting my feet up! Wishing my Dad a Happy Father’s day for tomorrow too – lets hope you can catch me on the blog at some point! I’ve opened up quite a gap!

On to the races then!

DUTCH ROSE 1515 YORK (NAP) (unplaced = -£5.00) she has been raised albs for defeating SIRIUS PROSPECT the other week here and I must admit I made a note of her that day, especially as I was on the runner up! She took her York record that day to 4 runs and 4 wins and with a slight ease in the ground I think she will take all the stopping today. It’s the first time this season I’ve resisted backing FENCING who looks more and more complex to ride, hope he doesn’t decide to put his right foot forward!

CAPO ROSSO 1420 SANDOWN (NB) – (NR) it proves wise sometimes to follow a horse in form and this fella is. A commanding front running display last time at Ripon caught the eye and that was his third successive win. The ground will be ideal again and this race isn’t much hotter than the Ripon encounter so his albs hike in the ratings shouldn’t peg him back.

MAVEN 1440 YORK (TREBLE) – (unplaced = – £5.00) this mare has been really consistent this year and has a pretty decent record at the track too. Her last run behind MY SPIRIT was good and she has been left on the same mark for this. The jockey gets on well with her and I can see her running on late to take this.

CASPIAN PRINCE 1535 MUSSELBURGH (unplaced = -£5.00) this boy did us a trial favour last week and it does pay well to follow a sprinter in form. I don’t think this will have come too quick for him and he can bounce out again from the plum draw and I don’t think anything will get to him. BODY AND SOUL nearly got us a big winner the other week and he could be a real danger, but then again another three or four have real chances too. A great little race.

I also fancy a few of these each way at big prices

SLEEPER KING 1550 YORK

EXTORTIONIST 1455 SANDOWN

WARLU WAY 1405 YORK

JACK LUEY 1430 MUSSELBURGH

My Dad’s selections :

G FORCE 1455 SANDOWN (3rd – 5/4 = £0.78)

DANZENO 1550 YORK (unplaced = – £5.00)

BODY AND SOUL 1535 MUSSELBURGH (4th – 4-1 = £2.50)

Sunday treble

Not too bad a day yesterday with SIRIUS PROSPECT obliging and a couple of places. It was pleasing to see Amy Ryan get up ok after what looked a horrendous fall at York. I hope she's ok.

We're off to visit one of my favourite places today, a little fishing village called Polperro. It's so beautiful and quaint. When I return I hope these three have done the business.

THE BANDIT'S TREBLE

PROPHESY 1555 CARLISLE (nap) – (unplaced) has been running pretty well of late and has course success on soft. Some doubts about him lasting the trip but I think he'll be better for it.

CAPO ROSSO 1640 PONTEFRACT (nb) – (unplaced) I think this horse needs a confidence boost after being pitched in large handicaps that have stretched him. A return to 6f today I think will help him here and he could run a big race.

GABRIAL 1605 PONTEFRACT (treble) – (2nd – 4-1) the simple matter of fact is that class is class, and this fella has bags of it. If he turns up with a game face on he wins, simple as that, if not, who knows!

Scorchio Saturday Tips

What a scorching day it is again today and blue skies dominate the scene here in sunny Sheffield. Terribly sad news this week came from the sport we love and lets hope Brian Toomey pulls through and makes a full recovery. Puts it into perspective what jockeys go through to bring us this sport we love. Thoughts with his family and friends.

On to today's races. One of the most competitive Eclipses for a while with not much seperating most of the field on ratings. Here are my selections today plus my Bandit's treble as normal.

CAPO ROSSO 1640 HAYDOCK (nap) – (unplaced) this horse won impressively at Warwick on quicker ground in early May and then ran well in defeat here at Haydock after that. The Brittania was too far and too competitive and this return to 7f on quick ground will play to his strengths from the front. He's dropped a pound from that and is only a pound higher than when being beat here by SO BELOVED.

KINGSGATE NATIVE 1405 SANDOWN (nb) – (2nd – 17-2) ran his no show race last time at the Royal meeting and this drop in grade and quicker ground will help him. He was running in great form prior to Ascot and a reproduction of that will see him take this. The quicker the ground the better for him!

THE FUGUE 1550 SANDOWN (treble) – (unplaced) I thought she ran a decent race at Ascot and it will have brought her on leaps and bounds. The girls don't have a great record in this but I think she will take this. She will love the ground and will be a lot closer come the furlong pole and she can storm past them.

WOODLAND ARIA 1515 SANDOWN – (unplaced) she was impressive first time out and looks a filly to watch. The mile is her optimum trip and I fancy her beat NARGYS here, my only worry is the ground may be too quick for her.

As well as these four I'm going with the following four in an each way Lucky 15.

BANOFFEE 1455 HAYDOCK – (unplaced) won very well at Chester and then was supplemented for the Oaks where the track and more importantly the ground beat her. On a faster surface here she should show her true form.

ES QUE LOVE 1440 SANDOWN – (2nd – 16-1) here I go again with my cliff horse! However, he has run really well of late and this mile wihich will be run quickly should suit and 25-1 on his Royal Ascot form is huge in my opinion.

HANOVERIAN BARON 1530 HAYDOCK – (unplaced) another horse who was in top form before Ascot and he never got close there. Prior to that his run at York when just pipped by SIR JOHN HAWKWOOD is decent form. The ground should suit and he now has an extra five pounds in hand with OPINION and that doesn't take into account his riders claim. Could run a huge race at a big price.

TWEETIE PIE 1505 BEVERLEY – (WON – 50-1) wasn't that impressive on debut but I follow Declan Carroll alot and he can get a horse flying on these courses in Yorkshire and this one with a run under its belt should improve, again a massive price in my opinion.

If you're having a flutter today, good luck and remember to bet within your means. Enjoy the sun and the racing.

Bank Holiday Selections

What a cracking Bank Holiday it has been in terms of weather, not often we get many like this! The racing world is reeling in the news of the formidable Nicholls/Walsh partnership going their seperate ways this morning. My twitter feed has been going bananas, not sure there will be much difference to be honest, Ruby will still ride some of the top stable stars on a Saturday in my opinion.
Saturday's blog showed a little improvement with good old KINGSGATE NATIVE (14-1) winning and CAPO ROSSO (4-1) second. I had a nice winner yesterday with my only bet of the day when MAOI CHINN TIRE came home at 12-1. Hopefully got a couple here today too.

Happy punting, and good luck.

GRANDADS HORSE 1715 CARTMEL (nap) – (NR) this horse has slipped back to his last winning mark and you need to put a line through his last two runs. Ground is key to this fella and he has two wins on good and three on good to firm ground at this level and above. He's due to go novice chasing soon and could sign off the smaller obstacles in style.

TUSSIE MUSSIE 1550 CARLISLE (nb) – (3rd – 6-1) is unexposed at this trip and just failed to peg back Lilac Lace last time. More to come from this horse and she has solid form through a line with CAPO ROSSO, losing by half a length to him last year. On his form this year that is decent, as is her own form in itself.

NEPTUNE EQUESTER 1540 CARTMEL (treble) – (3rd – 7-1) ran no real race in the Scottish National when well fancied. This is much easier, and up until the National he was producing good runs. Has won at this level before, I reckon something was amiss at Ayr last time and am hopeful of better today if the ground is ok for him.

TROJAN ROCKET 1555 WINDSOR – (WON – 8-1) this horse has a decent strike rate and is Mikael Barzalona's only ride of the day. He has won twice on him already and he goes well fresh. Has form on quicker ground and is a big price.

BASFORD BEN 1645 CARTMEL – (NR) this trainer/jockey combo proved successful yesterday on MAOI CHINN TIRE and they can claim another success today. This horse hasn't really progressed from decent NHF races, however all his disappointing runs have come on soft or worse ground. I think the quicker ground will suit. TRADE FAIR, his stallion has produced a few horses that have won on good and quicker ground. Good each way chance.

Temple Stakes Day

After last week's poor effort on the blog – I must do better! Looking forward to Haydock's meeting today. I used to go to this meeting every year with my dad, Grandad and a whole coach load from being 16 to 20 years old. I'm hoping I've got a few winners picked out here today.
Enjoy the racing and good luck if you're having a bet.

CAPO ROSSO 1800 HAYDOCK (nap) – (2nd – 4-1) I backed this at Warwick last time where he was very impressive, he lead all the way from the front and won easily. A 6lb raise is fair and I don't think that will stop him. That day I had him at 20-1, doubt he'll be anywhere near that price today. One to follow though.

ANCIENT CROSS 1455 YORK (nb) – (unplaced) This horse ran well last time over course and distance at the Dante meeting. He has only been raised 3lbs for that and has won off this mark of 85 before. The ground is no problem and it pays to follow a sprinter in form. I reckon he has a great chance again today.

KINGSGATE NATIVE 1550 HAYDOCK (treble) – (WON – 14-1) he ran back to his true ability last time in the Palace House. He just didnt get the gap in time to pull in Sole Power. On this faster track today I'm hoping he will weave through near the end and win this race again.

GEORGE VANCOUVER 1520 CURRAGH – (unplaced) I'm going to give this guy another go. He ran no real race in the Guineas and is much better than that. He has the quick ground again and think he will be much closer this time.

ILE DE RE 1420 YORK – (unplaced) with the forecast softer ground he should be able to run to the form he showed a few years ago. He's a class horse but really hasn't show it lately. Ground is key here and I think it will make all the difference.

DECISION BY ONE 1620 HAYDOCK – (unplaced) course form is key at Haydock and this horse has course and distance form here. He is another front runner and may not get pegged back here.

GABRIEL'S KAKA 1515 HAYDOCK – (unplaced) the drop back to a mile here will suit this guy I reckon. He has some decent form and was never in it at Chester last time.

BOLLIN GRETA 1600 YORK – (unplaced) was a fast finishing fourth last time when getting stuck in traffic, that was eye catching and if he gets a clear run today he will have a chance.
