Sunday treble

Not too bad a day yesterday with SIRIUS PROSPECT obliging and a couple of places. It was pleasing to see Amy Ryan get up ok after what looked a horrendous fall at York. I hope she's ok.
We're off to visit one of my favourite places today, a little fishing village called Polperro. It's so beautiful and quaint. When I return I hope these three have done the business.

PROPHESY 1555 CARLISLE (nap) – (unplaced) has been running pretty well of late and has course success on soft. Some doubts about him lasting the trip but I think he'll be better for it.

CAPO ROSSO 1640 PONTEFRACT (nb) – (unplaced) I think this horse needs a confidence boost after being pitched in large handicaps that have stretched him. A return to 6f today I think will help him here and he could run a big race.

GABRIAL 1605 PONTEFRACT (treble) – (2nd – 4-1) the simple matter of fact is that class is class, and this fella has bags of it. If he turns up with a game face on he wins, simple as that, if not, who knows!

Naps 42/193 = 21.8%
Wins 169/962 = 17.6%
Placed 254/962 = 26.4%

Win and Placed = 44%

Wednesday Treble

Here are my best three for Wednesday. Good luck if you're having a flutter.
WARLU WAY 1635 CARLISLE (nap) – (WON – 10-1) this boy is on a decent mark considering his exploits last season and with conditions to suit he may take this. His eye catching second to NANTON in the apprentice handicap put him in my notebook and he has a good chance today.
ALMALEKIAH 2010 BATH (nb) – (WON – 7-4) is on the same mark as when he ran well in defeat to TUMBLEWIND. Running consistently well and could take this in receipt of 9lbs from DAYLIGHT.
SEAHAM 1920 KEMPTON (treble) – (unplaced) this one has run creditably in defeat this year. His run at Warwick was eye-catching behind two subsequent winners. The extra furlong may bring better out of him.

Naps 41/184 = 22.2%
Wins 166/929 = 17.9%
Placed 247/929 = 26.6%

Win and Placed = 44.5%

Monday’s treble

After Saturday's disaster Sunday was much better. If you read my timeline you would have seen me a long last have a winning nap. WHOZTHECAT 14-1, was the one that broke my 14 loser run! Lets hope tomorrows can continue the winning trend and that I have a few at Ascot!
CELESTIAL DAWN 1515 CARLISLE (nap) – (unplaced) has dropped back to a good mark and has been running consistently lately. Better with a bit of cut, but has won on good and will appreciate this stiff track.
TUSSIE MUSSIE 1645 CARLISLE (nb) – (unplaced) has two good runs behind him this season and has the potential to go one better today.
DARK ORCHID 1950 WARWICK (treble) – (3rd – 9-2) Shirrocco Star ran a stinker last time and I don't think she's the same horse. My selection has a few good runs behind her in France and whilst has been a pace maker recently, cannot be discounted and Godolphin are starting to fire.

Naps 39/177 = 22%
Wins 161/894 = 18%
Placed 237/894 = 26.4%

Win and Placed = 44.4%

Bank Holiday Selections

What a cracking Bank Holiday it has been in terms of weather, not often we get many like this! The racing world is reeling in the news of the formidable Nicholls/Walsh partnership going their seperate ways this morning. My twitter feed has been going bananas, not sure there will be much difference to be honest, Ruby will still ride some of the top stable stars on a Saturday in my opinion.
Saturday's blog showed a little improvement with good old KINGSGATE NATIVE (14-1) winning and CAPO ROSSO (4-1) second. I had a nice winner yesterday with my only bet of the day when MAOI CHINN TIRE came home at 12-1. Hopefully got a couple here today too.
Happy punting, and good luck.
GRANDADS HORSE 1715 CARTMEL (nap) – (NR) this horse has slipped back to his last winning mark and you need to put a line through his last two runs. Ground is key to this fella and he has two wins on good and three on good to firm ground at this level and above. He's due to go novice chasing soon and could sign off the smaller obstacles in style.
TUSSIE MUSSIE 1550 CARLISLE (nb) – (3rd – 6-1) is unexposed at this trip and just failed to peg back Lilac Lace last time. More to come from this horse and she has solid form through a line with CAPO ROSSO, losing by half a length to him last year. On his form this year that is decent, as is her own form in itself.
NEPTUNE EQUESTER 1540 CARTMEL (treble) – (3rd – 7-1) ran no real race in the Scottish National when well fancied. This is much easier, and up until the National he was producing good runs. Has won at this level before, I reckon something was amiss at Ayr last time and am hopeful of better today if the ground is ok for him.
TROJAN ROCKET 1555 WINDSOR – (WON – 8-1) this horse has a decent strike rate and is Mikael Barzalona's only ride of the day. He has won twice on him already and he goes well fresh. Has form on quicker ground and is a big price.
BASFORD BEN 1645 CARTMEL – (NR) this trainer/jockey combo proved successful yesterday on MAOI CHINN TIRE and they can claim another success today. This horse hasn't really progressed from decent NHF races, however all his disappointing runs have come on soft or worse ground. I think the quicker ground will suit. TRADE FAIR, his stallion has produced a few horses that have won on good and quicker ground. Good each way chance.

Naps 39/174 = 22.4%
Wins 161/878 = 18.3%
Placed 233/878 = 26.5%

Win and Placed = 44.9%

Tuesday tips

TWEEDO PARADISO 1450 CARLISLE (nap) – (3rd – 5-1) showed marked improvements in his handicap debut last time on better ground. He is turned out quickly again here off a feather weight and could easily sneak into affairs.
PULL THE PIN 1530 SOUTHWELL (nb) – (WON 11-4) ultra consistent here and after a narrow defeat managed to get his head infront. Ran well off this mark the last twice. Big chance returning to this track!
FLUIDITY 1615 PONTEFRACT (treble) – (unplaced) ran well at this trip on his last start in Ireland. Has been raised 8lbs for that, shrewd trainer knows where to start them off, could be a real improver.

Naps 34/153 = 22.2%
Wins 142/776 = 18.3%
Placed 209/776 = 26.9%

Win and Placed = 45.2%

Easter Saturday Selections

I thought it was fitting to have the blog photo of the great ALBERTAS RUN who I hope is going to enjoy a long and well deserved retirement, what a horse he was!
On to the racing and what a day of racing we have. The re-run Lincoln, Haydock and a super card at Musselburgh with a few old favourites, and then of course we have Meydan and the richest race in the world. I've selected a few from those meetings for you. I'm hoping I can keep the big priced handicap naps going on a Saturday. I have another big priced one that could go very well.
LANDSCAPE 1440 HAYDOCK (nap) – (FELL) this horse has always been held in high regard by his yard and he ran well when winning at Exeter beating BILLY TWYFORD. He franked the form a few times too. Landscape then won well at Taunton in really heavy ground before running fourth behind GEVREY CHAMBERTIN at Wincanton. He ran so poorly last time at Chepstow and that should be ignored. He has blinkers on today to sharpen him up and I think he will go enjoy this better ground. If he is focused and reproduces his earlier successes he has a damn good sniff.
HAMISH MCGONAGALL 1500 MUSSELBURGH (nb) – (unplaced) this guy is a class horse and has the ability to win this again. He does have to give Tangerine Trees 15lbs however. He has been running Group 1 races creditably remember! His last three runs here have produced three wins – that is solid enough!
PROPHESY 1615 DONCASTER (treble) – (unplaced) this guy is returning from a long lay off. He did however win first time out last season off a longer one. He has put some good performances in last season and this distance will suit as will the conditions.
CHAPTER SEVEN 1505 DONCASTER – (unplaced) I'm opting for this one in the Lincoln as he is progressive, goes well fresh and will enjoy the ground. Four year olds have a great record this and he is weighted similar to past winners. His run when beating LAHAAG at York was a good one and with luck in running I hope I have the winner. I have to also place some each way money on SWIFTLY DONE who has some decent form in the locker and will also relish the ground.
OUR JONATHAN 1430 DONCASTER – (3rd – 4-1) this one goes well fresh and has been running well over further, that stamina will be needed in todays ground and I think he will stay on better than the rest to take this.
CLOUDY TOO 1515 HAYDOCK – (3rd – 12-1) this one has some really good form including a course and distance success here. He has also gone in at Wetherby, I always look for that at Haydock as they are both similar tough tracks. He couldn't get close last time at Cheltenham and despite a rise in the ratings he can go well. People are put off him due to the better ground, but he has won on good and on good to soft.
TOP NOTCH TONTO 1535 MUSSELBURGH – (unplaced) his win at Ayr was impressive and he ran a good race after that behind WILLIE THE WHIPPER. He has some weight to carry here but I think he has more to offer this year and is a crazy price.
MR SPIGGOTT 1355 DONCASTER – (unplaced) this one has a good chance when reflecting on his second at Windsor off the same mark last year. He will enjoy the ground and has a decent draw.
I'm also putting a few quid on the following :
BALINROAB 1550 HAYDOCK (unplaced)
EXCEL BOLT 1425 HAYDOCK (unplaced)
RASAMAN 1645 HAYDOCK (unplaced)
KRYTON FACTOR 1545 MEYDAN (3rd – 9-1)
Enjoy today's action and hopefully I have found a few winners here. Can't wait for next week at Aintree and the big one. Happy punting everyone.

Monday Tips

What is there better than a week off work? Granted I'm fortunate being a teacher that I get quite a few holidays, but I do work hard for it!! So thought I would do a blog for the first day of my holiday. Lets's hope it churns out a few winners.
VAMIZI 1540 CARLISLE (nap) – (unplaced) this race will be won by a stayer and this boy has ran over 3m 7f on a few occasions. That to boot with impressive course figures of 22132 he must feature in the reckoning. He has struggled at this class in the past and that is my only concern.
GLEN COUNTESS 1350 SOUTHWELL (nb) – (2nd – 11-2) she has been knocking on the door the season. Her last two runs were disappointing but she should stay this trip and a small field is in her favour.
TRAVIS COUNTY 1525 SOUTHWELL (treble) – (2nd – 11-2) the ground won't be a problem and he had an encouraging first run over hurdles which will have hopefully set him up for this. The top weight has disappointed every run and I think is too short again.
If you are having a bet, please do so within your means and good luck.

Sunday selections

Not much luck yesterday on the tipping front. Although my nb Zarkandar was impressive again, battling really well up the hill. It will be interesting to see Grandouet's next run on better ground. He could well be a serious Champion Hurdle contender. Sad to see Cristal Bonus pull up injured yesterday and unfortunately it proved to be fatal, I really fancied him to win the race, but now feel worse that he's no longer with us.
On to today's selections.
River Dragon 1430 Carlisle (nap) – (2nd 5-1) returns to more a sutiable level for him. Will relish the ground conditions and having won in a class higher than this he must have a squeak.
Tipsy Dara 1300 Carlisle (nb) – (WON 9-2) another one who has form on heavy and over the distance. Needs to put a disappointing run last time behind her, although that may be related to the extended distance.
Pont Alexandre 1325 Navan (treble) – (WON 3-1) lots of positive noises have been coming out about him this week. Of interest to give Don Cossack a race. Must have a squeak, if only a little one.

Bank Holiday Monday

Well as per normal it’s a bank holiday and the weather is crap. I’m sure that ground will be quite testing at some tracks tomorrow. The blog on Sunday continued in this same rich vein of form with a winner (AZULADA BAY – 4-1) and a second (THE CLYDA ROVER 4-1). It just shows that sometimes going to the races and watching the horses run can give you pointers for the future. Azulada Bay really impressed me at Warwick last time with how he stayed on, the visor clearly worked.
So here are my Bank Hoilday three :
EMBSAY CRAG 1605 CARLISLE – (nap) (unplaced) has been running well over this trip. He is better drawn today and this sharper track should help. Has won and been placed on ground softer than good.
FORK HANDLES 1555 REDCAR – (nb) (unplaced) ran in the Oaks last year and other top level races. Came second earlier on in the season at Kempton. The ground should be good or a bit quicker at Redcar which will suit, the soft at Ascot last time found her out. One of my horses to follow this year.
DEVOTED 1440 CHEPSTOW – (treble) (3rd – 4-1) has form on soft and good to soft. Has struggled in handicaps, but I fancy his chances on softer ground and Beckett/Crowley are on fire!
Stats as of 4/6//12
WINS 46/260 = 17.7%
NAPS 16/72 = 22.2%
PLACED 64/260 = 24.6%
WIN OR PLACED 110/260 = 42.3%
Remember if you are having a wager to bet within your means. These are my selections and I am not suggesting you follow my advice, I only do this for a bit of fun!
