Temple Stakes – Haydock and others

So I return to the blog after a week off. Last week I ventured to Donny races for their evening meet followed by The Human League in concert afterwards. It was a great day all round with three winners and a good time had by all! Sunday was a different matter however! I had the worst hangover I have had in a long time! On to the horses, my dad has got off to a flying start and he had four very profitable selections a few weeks ago, as for me, enough said at the minute! I struggled to pick my nose last time! As always I'm realistic, sometimes you win, alot of the time you lose!! I'm always prepared to celebrate the successes and lick my wounds in defeat! Hopefully I will have a change of luck today. Good luck to you all whatever you're on!
HOT STREAK 1545 HAYDOCK (nap) (Unplaced = -£5.00)
Won this last year off a 4lb higher mark. The surface is key for him and with a bit of cut in the ground he will be hard to peg back. His win as a three year old in this last year shouldn't be underestimated and with a solid return last time he is set up ready to roll. I expect a huge run today, lump on! My old mate KINGSGATE NATIVE ran a cracker last time behind his stablemate and he will be thereabouts again. He's worth a saver!
POOLE HARBOUR 1500 CATTERICK (nb) (unplaced = -£5.00)
Had a nightmare season last year with Dandy Nicholls, and he comes with risks attached. He really interests me on his first run for Karl Burke on ground he will love. He is running off a mark of OR80, which he has won off before, and was running off a mark of OR95 last year, so he has an attractive mark for me. He's drawn near some pace and is a big price for this class of handicap. I just hope he returns to his old form, if he does he could walk this.
MY DREAM BOAT 1455 GOODWOOD (treble) (unplaced = -£5.00)
I picked this horse last week at Donny. He's well bred for better ground and he absolutely hosed up. There was definitely more in the tank and despite a 8lb rise in his mark to OR84 he looked very good last week and there should be more improvement. My only reservation as my good friend @Pirate_B pointed out is that the jockey has yet to win for this trainer! I'm optimistic though and hope that what I saw last week was a decent horse on the upgrade.
GO DAN GO 1435 HAYDOCK (unplaced = -£5.00)
This guy is really progressing quickly and I know he has to step up again but he is capable of it I think, especially on this softer surface. He has been running well all year and his success at Beverley was franked yesterday will the second going in. It's a big step up but his trainer is getting more talented and becoming very shrewd at placing his horses! A definite big each way shout.
My Dad's selections are:
Gabrial's King 1400 Haydock (Unplaced = -£5.00)
Mutarakez 1435 Haydock (Won 2-1 = £6.25)
Lastuce 1510 Haydock (unplaced = -£5.00)
Hot Streak 1545 Haydock (unplaced= -£5.00)
Father 2-1 Son
Father £34.02
Son – £36.25
A couple of extras I like today are –
and @Pirate_B likes the look of RED CHARMER 1700 Beverley!

Haydock and The Temple of Doom

Here we go again with a monster scoop 6! Lets hope it goes today, and I hope it goes to a £2 line or a small syndicate of 'normal' people and not the rich guys who have put thousands on to bet. Not had chance to do a Saturday blog for a while. My selections are below and I've got my daughter to select a scoop 6 too!
POWERFUL PRESENCE 1525 CATTERICK (nap) – (2nd – 12-1 = £7.50) this horse ran well at Ripon. On his first start and I fully expected him to win next time out but he disappointed. He returns here in a lower class race and his record is impressive here 1211.
BIG BREAK 1555 CURRAGH (nb) – (unplaced = -£5.00) she has a few decent runs on softer ground and the stable are in good fettle at the moment. She could be a horse to follow this year and I'm hopeful of a big run!
MIDTERM BREAK 1540 BEVERLEY (treble) – (WON – 11-4 = £8.59) followed up a good second to ROUDEE at Roipon with a good win at Southwell. Comes here in good form and really fancy his chances
SHORE STEP 1405 HAYDOCK – (2nd – 12-1 = £7.50) I always try to find a decent priced handicap horse and I think I've found it for today. This horse has won on better ground than this but also has run on good ground. Im hopeful the softer ground won't be an issue. He ran CAPO ROSSO close last year at Warwick and then followed that up with a success. CAPO ROSSO won again last weekend and this horse could have more in the tank!
My daughter's scoop6!
Leg 4 – MARCH
Here are my Dad's selections
GO FAR 1405 HAYDOCK (unplaced = -£5.00)
HOT STREAK 1440 HAYDOCK (WON 9-4 = £7.03)
JOYEUSE 1510 HAYDOCK (WON 3-1 = £9.37)
FIRST FLIGHT 1545 HAYDOCK (unplaced = -£5.00)
Current standings : FATHER 7-10 SON
PROFIT – SON = £141.26 FATHER £68.81

Catterick & Notts selections

At last I had a winner on the blog after a few days of placings, to be honest I'm not in great form at the moment but hoping for a change in luck as we head to Newmarket next week for the Craven meeting. PULL THE PIN (11-4) was the winner on Tuesday and the nap TWEEDO PARADISO came third (5-1). On to Wednesday with two horses from a trainer I follow closely (PULL THE PIN's) Declan Carroll.

MICK SLATES 1620 CATTERICK (nap) – this horse was progressive last year and whilst his return at Warwick wasn't anything to write home about it will have done him good. He has won over course and distance and has form on better ground.

BOUCHER GARCON 1750 CATTERICK (nb) – this horse won this last year and started the season flying. His return last time was promising and e has every chance of taking this. Hopefully the ground won't have dried up too much.
STEPPER POINT 1510 NOTTINGHAM (treble) – there was something amiss with this horse last season after impressing at Chantilly. I'm hoping a break will see him return to a form that saw him run better than such horses as Hamish McGonagall and Eton Rifles. Could run a big race at a silly price.

Friday tips

Well I was gutted on Thursday as it was the first time in ages that the blog didn’t get a win or a place. As I’m sure everyone knows you have hot streaks and then periods of no winners too. I’m hoping with Royal Ascot looming that I don’t go into a barren spell.
I’m doing a blog for one of my mates tomorrow as he is going to Newcastle races on Saturday night for his stag do. He asked for some tips so I thought I would do an indepth blog for him. That got me thinking that aswell as my top three every day why don’t I pick a whole meeting too and have a go at each race. So, I’m going to!
Firstly, here are my best three :
TIP TOP GORGEOUS 1410 NEWMARKET – (nap) (unplaced) ran well when second in a classified contest last time. Now back down to handicapping and 3lbs heavier. Has form on good to soft so the ground shouldn’t be an issue.

HONEYMEAD 1945 DONCASTER – (nb) (unplaced) been knocking at the door this year and I’ve tipped her up twice and she’s finished second both times. It’s rained hard in Sheffield today so the ground at Doncaster may well be softer than good which will help.
NASEEM ALYASMEEN 2120 DONCASTER – (treble) (3rd – 7-2) was selected as a nap last week and duely obliged. Has run very well all season, softer ground is not a concern and his penalty shouldn’t stop her.
I have selected Newmarket tomorrow for my meeting bets. Let’s see how it goes, I have highlighted a nap, nb, in with a chance (IWAC) for the meeting too.
LILLY WHITE 1340 e/w (unplaced)
TIP TOP GORGEOUS 1410 (nap) (unplaced)
PRINCESS OF ORANGE 1445 (unplaced)
BLACK MASCARA 1520 e/w (3rd – 10-1)
ATLANTIC SPORT 1555 (iwac) (unplaced)
SAMBA KING 1630 (nb) (3rd – 15-2)
UNDERWRITTEN 1705 e/w (unplaced)
LIEUTENANT KOJAK 1740 (2nd – 6-1)

Stats as of 8/6/12 – best three only
WINS 47/273 = 17.2%
NAPS 16/76 = 21%
PLACED 67/273 = 24.5%
WIN OR PLACED 114/273 = 41.7%
Remember if you are having a wager to bet within your means. These are my selections and I am not suggesting you follow my advice, I only do this for a bit of fun!

Catterick – Tuesday and an ex-President

At last I stopped the rot of consecutive losing naps on Monday with FADE TO GREY obliging at 5-2. A few more prayers to the Luck Gods needed. Aswell as photos from Emma-Louise that I use on the blog I have also got a few crackers courtesy of Martin. Click here for a link to his blog that produced 4 winners and 3 placed horses at Beverley. Thanks for letting me use your snap of the young O’Brien and Maybe from Sunday’s 1000 Guineas.
So, all three tips come from Catterick’s evening meeting on Tuesday.
PRESIDENT LINCOLN 1910 CATTERICK – (nap) (unplaced) made a winning start last month after moving from Ballydoyle and being gelded. Ran impressively and is now on a decent mark handicapping. Must have a chance of following up. (5 point win)

HI DANCER 1940 CATTERICK – (nb) (unplaced) was second here on his last start after some great performances hurdling. Prior to that he has finished second and third here. Likes the track and trip won’t be a problem. Each way chance. (3 points each way)

PROPHESY 2010 CATTERICK – (treble) (WON 4-5 = 5.4 points) same owners, trainer as the nap and also bought out of Ballydoyle. Showed fair bits of ability there and that should be enough to win this lowly maiden. (3 point win)

STAKE = 14 points

RETURNS = 5.4 points

BANK = – 17.1 points

Stats as of 8/5/12

WINS 25/136 = 18.4%
NAPS 9/46 = 19.6%
PLACED 30/136 = 22.1%
WIN OR PLACED 55/136 = 40.4%

Remember if you are having a wager to bet within your means. These are my selections and I am not suggesting you follow my advice, I only do this for a bit of fun!
