Scorchio Saturday Tips

What a scorching day it is again today and blue skies dominate the scene here in sunny Sheffield. Terribly sad news this week came from the sport we love and lets hope Brian Toomey pulls through and makes a full recovery. Puts it into perspective what jockeys go through to bring us this sport we love. Thoughts with his family and friends.

On to today's races. One of the most competitive Eclipses for a while with not much seperating most of the field on ratings. Here are my selections today plus my Bandit's treble as normal.

CAPO ROSSO 1640 HAYDOCK (nap) – (unplaced) this horse won impressively at Warwick on quicker ground in early May and then ran well in defeat here at Haydock after that. The Brittania was too far and too competitive and this return to 7f on quick ground will play to his strengths from the front. He's dropped a pound from that and is only a pound higher than when being beat here by SO BELOVED.

KINGSGATE NATIVE 1405 SANDOWN (nb) – (2nd – 17-2) ran his no show race last time at the Royal meeting and this drop in grade and quicker ground will help him. He was running in great form prior to Ascot and a reproduction of that will see him take this. The quicker the ground the better for him!

THE FUGUE 1550 SANDOWN (treble) – (unplaced) I thought she ran a decent race at Ascot and it will have brought her on leaps and bounds. The girls don't have a great record in this but I think she will take this. She will love the ground and will be a lot closer come the furlong pole and she can storm past them.

WOODLAND ARIA 1515 SANDOWN – (unplaced) she was impressive first time out and looks a filly to watch. The mile is her optimum trip and I fancy her beat NARGYS here, my only worry is the ground may be too quick for her.

As well as these four I'm going with the following four in an each way Lucky 15.

BANOFFEE 1455 HAYDOCK – (unplaced) won very well at Chester and then was supplemented for the Oaks where the track and more importantly the ground beat her. On a faster surface here she should show her true form.

ES QUE LOVE 1440 SANDOWN – (2nd – 16-1) here I go again with my cliff horse! However, he has run really well of late and this mile wihich will be run quickly should suit and 25-1 on his Royal Ascot form is huge in my opinion.

HANOVERIAN BARON 1530 HAYDOCK – (unplaced) another horse who was in top form before Ascot and he never got close there. Prior to that his run at York when just pipped by SIR JOHN HAWKWOOD is decent form. The ground should suit and he now has an extra five pounds in hand with OPINION and that doesn't take into account his riders claim. Could run a huge race at a big price.

TWEETIE PIE 1505 BEVERLEY – (WON – 50-1) wasn't that impressive on debut but I follow Declan Carroll alot and he can get a horse flying on these courses in Yorkshire and this one with a run under its belt should improve, again a massive price in my opinion.

If you're having a flutter today, good luck and remember to bet within your means. Enjoy the sun and the racing.

Welsh National Tip

Well not too bad a day on the blog yesterday with DRAWNFROMTHEPAST (11-8) and BALLYGARVEY (9-4) winning for us. Was a shame that the nap DOOR BOY ran so poorly again, think that will be the last of my money he gets for a while. Anyway, on to today with the re-arranged Welsh National to look forward to plus some good supporting cards at Sandown and Wincanton. My tip for big one is above – I'mvsure you can guess who he is before you read below.

Here are my best three bets for today, plus a few others to watch out for.

LANDSCAPE 1405 WINCANTON (nap) – (unplaced) ran well last week when winning at Taunton and isn't penalised from that race. Harry Derham can also claim 5lbs today rather than 3 last week, so he's 2lb better off! The handicapper will surely hit him after this so it will be wise to get on him today. He's well handicapped on ground he'll like and over the right distance. He must have a huge chance.

SWNYMOR 1335 CHEPSTOW (nb) – (FELL) was a decent prospect on the flat and was impressive when winning first time out at Newbury. He really didn't have to beat much but the manner in which he did it was appealing. He should be thereabouts in this. The Nicholls runner is the unknown quantity!!

GILES CROSS 1520 CHEPSTOW (treble) e/w – (PU) what a great horse this is. It loves the mud and really battles well. He's been runner up in this twice already. The trip, ground and course will all suit. He has a weight to burden that only a select few have won with, but this boy is brave and will keep battling up the hill. Denis O'Regan gets on well with him and won well on him at Haydock last season. He's a great jockey and will keep him at the front going steady. I really think he can defy this weight and I think is a banker for a place at the least!

I also fancy the chances of HEY BIG SPENDER 1540 SANDOWN (unplaced) today. His run at Ascot wasn't great but he will have needed that and I think he can win this today off a mark he has won off before. I am also going for a Paul Nicholls treble with the following three :

KEPPOLS HILL 1300 CHEPSTOW – (WON 10-11) has been unlucky on both occasions previous and really should have won them both but for jumping errors. Today is the day!
ROGER BEANTOWN 1445 CHEPSTOW – (FELL) ran poorly at Cheltenham last time but his previous run here gives him a sniff and an extended distance should play to his strengths. Takes this before tackling fences.
GRANDIOSO 1330 WINCANTON – (2nd – 11-4) won well over course and distance last time and I think he will do the same again getting a run in off Tony Star.

Finally I'm having a flutter on WILLIAMS WISHES, (WON evens) POET (unplaced) AND SOFTSONG (unplaced) at SANDOWN all who I think have got great chances again today to take the money.

Well I hope there are a few winners in this lot today or I will be very disappointed, particiularly the best three. Remember these are my selections and I'm by no means an expert! If you are having a flutter, remember to do so within your means. Enjoy the racing and scream out loud for GILES CROSS!!

Thursday Selections – A Brave Move?

The good run of placed or winning selections continued on Wednesday with INDIAN DAUDAIE (9-1) and REVE DU JOUR (4-1) finishing second. I knew Indian had a good run in him, however, I did highlight how much I also fancied TOP SMART, who went on a romped it by 10 lengths!!! Oh well!
Also received my conformation email today from Coral as a member of the Coral Champions Club, worth a look, and membership if you fancy it! I also won my second competition courtesy of Saturday Fantasy Racing. Its a great little comp to do on a Saturday for free and you have a league table and can win free tickets to race meets. Have a look here, and follow them on Twitter at @Satracing.
So on to Thursday and I hope this run continues, the highs are great, the barren spells are rubbish!
BRAVEHEART MOVE 1715 HAYDOCK – (nap) (unplaced) moved back up in trip, and was a smart horse around this distance a few years ago. With the ground getting firmer too to boost his chances. Three wins all on good to firm or fast/standard. Visor fitted to help too. Could go very well at a great price! Each way bet

SUPREME QUEST 1915 SALISBURY – (nb) (2nd – 7-5) ran a decent comeback race when I tipped him up on here last time. Has form on good to firm and the comeback run should put him right for a big race in this.
BEAUFORT TWELVE 1415 GOODWOOD – (treble) (WON – 15-2) won his only start as a 2 y o and then ran in the Craven on softish ground, his win was on better stuff and I’m hoping he bounces back here over a little further on quicker ground.
I also need to have a little bet on FABALU 1630 WETHERBY (NR) who needed a hell of an effort to get home and get interested last time yet when he got going he got pipped. With a more ‘focused’ run he could be very dangerous!

Stats as of 24/5/12
WINS 36/205 = 17.5%
NAPS 12/61 = 19.6%
PLACED 53/205 = 25.8%
WIN OR PLACED 89/205 = 43.4%
TREBLES LANDED = 2

Remember if you are having a wager to bet within your means. These are my selections and I am not suggesting you follow my advice, I only do this for a bit of fun!
