Sandown, Ffos Las

Morning all from a very snowy Sheffield! Had a right downpour of the white stuff this week! Bloody hate it. By the kind permission of Fran, who you can all follow on twitter @Riosrider2, I have the wonderful photo of our big price near miss last week, BIG FELLA THANKS, to say I was gutted about that was an understatement – however I was pleased he ran to what I said in my blog. Please give Fran a follow, she has taken some amazing photos and regularly tweets them. She has kindly given me the permission to use them from now on when typing my blog. Thanks Fran! Last week was unlucky as stated above and I thought the nap VAGO COLLONGES was going to walk his race too coming up the straight! Interesting to see where he goes next and over shorter. Have found a couple of horses I really like today and hopefully they will give us another shout for our money. As always I wish you luck with whichever horse carries your well earned coins as we continue to strive to defeat our old foe! Good luck guys!

#twiiter gamble. The boys are back for another week, lets hope they bring in the big one! Give them a follow too.
@LiamKenniford – GLOBAL POWER 1440 FFOS LAS
@Fernando_RF2 – CARRIGMOORNA ROCK 1355 FAIRYHOUSE
@DazGilbert1 – WAR SINGER 1510 FFOS LAS
@Tonythetyke – LEWIS 1445 WETHERBY

Here are my selections for today :

VIA SUNDOWN 1535 SANDOWN (nap) (PU = -£5.00)
He beat BENVOLIO off a one pound higher mark this his mark today last year on heavy ground. That's pretty smart form considering BENVOLIO'S exploits this year and his targets. My guy ran in the Hennessy and then in a Listed race at Ascot behind THE YOUNG MASTER, all of which were too high targets for him and he was found wanting. He is back in a more suitable race today and has a very nice mark and I believe a cracking chance. He was fancied last time at Kempton but unseated and I hope he can jump soundly today! That day when ARKDILLY WITNESS won my guy was a pound higher in the weights than the winner, today he is 7lbs better off with that rival – that could prove key! I am confident of a good run but am mindful of CANTLOW too – he could reproduse today if it's a going day for him.

IMPERIAL LEADER 1500 SANDOWN (nb) (PU = -£5.00)
Yet to win a race since his novice hurdle success but he has ran in some very good, competitive races. His second behind IRISH SAINT on unsuitable heavy ground off a mark 4lbs higher than today is pretty decent form. He then ran third behind FINGAL BAY at Exeter off a 5lb higher mark than today. Can you see why he's fancied today? Interestingly the ground is better today which I think will help as will the slight drop back in trip, he has the stamina in the bag and could go at them early. Great chance to get off the mark this season.

PUFFIN BILLY 1405 FFOS LAS (treble) (PU = -£5.00)
A smart horse and I like to follow horse who go back over hurdles after being jumping and after a fall. They grow in confidence as the race progreses and this guy could do the same. He is 7lbs lower in the ratings today than when being beaten by MELODIC RENDEZVOUS in heavy ground a couple of years ago. He was also a creditable 5th behind CHAMPAGNE FEVER at the Festival that year, that is much better form than anything else, bar one, see below. The ground will be testing and people are talking about low weights being needed but my guy is use to shouldering big weights and running well. He carried 11st 11lbs when getting beaten by MELODIC RENDEZVOUS and has 9lbs less today. Class is class as I always say and the stable and jockey are going well. My twitter friend @Pirate_B has talked me into a saver on HIDDEN IDENTITY too. She also has smart form and is a crazy price after being not too far behind the likes of QUEVEGA at the festival. Give Darrell a follow here

ELY BROWN 1445 WETHERBY (unplaced = -£5.00)
Another one starting out over hurdles for the season after going chasing last. He's top weight and the class horse by a mile for me. He is dropped into class 3 company for this after running in Class 1 chases last season. He beat MILLBOROUGH and GREEN FLAG here off a mark of OR140. Course form is key here! His last hurdle win came at Aintree when he best GAUVAIN on good ground over this trip off a 4lb lower mark. He has also beaten HOLYWELL on soft ground at Warwick and with Charlie Deutsch taking a valuable 7lbs off in weight today he has to have a chance. Our old friend from the other week JOIN THE CLAN goes again but he's been raised a massive 11lbs by the handicapper for that and it wouldnt surprise me that the rise is too much and they take it steady with him with his mark for Cheltenham the priority. Class is class – come on Ely!

My Dad's selections are :
POLAMCO 1500 SANDOWN (PU = -£5.00)
LITTLE BOY BORU FFOS LAS 1405 (PU = -£5.00)
THERE'S NO PANIC 1535 SANDOWN (unplaced = -£5.00)
GORGEHOUS LLIEGE 1440 FFOS LAS (2nd 6-1 = £3.75)

Wet Weather Saturday

Well this is certainly going to be a slog today! At least we've got some good racing to engage us though. The picture above is the horse our teamchoochoo syndicate has bought into! Cant wait to see him running later in the year! Will keep you all posted on this and when he's running! My dad is starting to panic after seeing me win four weeks on the bounce, although to be fair the last two weeks neither of us have shone! Lets hope we fair better today! If you're having a flutter today good luck. The festival is on the horizon folks!!

GREY GOLD 1350 SANDOWN (nap) – (WON – 4-1 = £12.50) placed the last twice and has two wins on heavy in the form book. His form is solid this year running behind LANCETTO at Ascot and also behind CLOUDY TOO earlier on at Carlisle. Delve further into his form and he defeated JOHNS SPIRIT over hurdles a few years ago too. He will relish the mud today and is a massive 8lbs in weight better off with DESERT CRY than his defeat by him last time, that will make it considerably closer today.

GRENDISAR 1530 LINGFIELD (nb) – (WON 9-4 = £7.03) ran eyecatchingly well in early January behind CASTILLE DEL DIABLO but then found 2 miles too far. A return to this trip will help and he has Adam Kirby in the saddle today whose record on him reads 1-2-1-2-1

ALFIE SPINNER 1440 FFOS LAS (treble) – (unplaced = -£5.00) ran very well last time out only finding the very impressive MENDIP EXPRESS too good for him. That was a real return to form. The ground today will be fine and he is given another chance off the same mark!

ROALCO DES FARGES 1535 SANDOWN – (PU = -£5.00) off for nearly two years but was pretty decent before that. Started a revival at Newbury and had three solid runs before his lay off behind TEAFORTHREE, MASTER OVERSEER and was a distant second to TIDAL BAY here in similar conditions in the BET365 Gold Cup. Has been dropped three pounds in the ratings for that and I think he is a cracking bet despite his lay off.

My dad has heard a positive whisper for BIG SHU tomorrow at PUNCHESTOWN – he'll probably be favourite but the vibes are he will win! As with all whispers take it as you will – its your risk!

My dad's selections are :

REBEL REBELLION 1350 SANDOWN (3rd – 8-1 = £5.00)
WHISPER 1405 FFOS LAS (2nd – 6-4 = £0.94)
THEATRICAL STAR 1535 SANDOWN (3rd – 10-1 = £6.25)
EMPEROR'S CHOICE 1440 FFOS LAS (WON – 9-2 = £14.06)

May the best man win!

Tuesday at Ffos Las

Not a bad day for the blog on Monday with a winner courtesy of CHELLA THRILLER (9-2), then a decent place from TILSTAR (4-1). My selections for Tuesday take us to Ffos Las and a decent one (I think!) at Lingfield.

REGAL APPROACH 1445 FFOS LAS (nap) – (unplaced) showed signs of his old form when returning from a lay off when third at Newbury. The second in that race FAULTLESS FEELINGS ran LOOSE CHIPS close before that one's run in the Lanzarote. On his bare form as a chaser is pretty well in and I hope that will show through!

FULL OF JOY 1340 FFOS LAS (nb) – (unplaced) fell on his return but should be thereabouts again if the confidence hasn't been knocked. Is relatively unexposed and the ground should suit.

THEATRE EVENING 1310 FFOS LAS (treble) – (PU) the McCoy factor for this one. He has had a few rides for Rebecca Curtis here at Ffos Las recently, and while is stable jockey to JP, technically he's not for Jonjo, so his choice here could be a tip. I may of course be completely wrong!

Finally I liked the way that KING ARTHUR 1330 LINGFIELD (2nd 12-1) ran on his debut behind Nicholls/Walsh's IRISH SAINT. He was moving pretty well up until the point where he tipped up, ad that was two classes hgher than this!

Monday tips

Well Sunday was a much better day with both PONT ALEXANDRE (3-1) and TIPSY DARA (9-2) winning in the treble. We were only just pipped to a great return by RIVER DRAGON (5-1) coming second at Carlisle.

Lets hope Monday can be just as fruitful.

UNCLE JIMMY 1330 Plumpton (nap) (2nd 2-1) – flopped last time out when upped to 3 miles. However, the form of the race he won first time out is pretty decent and he has to have a sniff dropped back in distance.

THUNDERSTORM 1535 Plumpton (nb) (WON 5-2) – some decent bits of form before his lay off. Looks a type to get off the mark in this race.

HODGSON 1345 Ffos Las (treble) (unplaced- just!) – has ran well this season including when a very good second last time out at Haydock. That should be enough to take this.

Sunday tips

Yesterday wasn't the best of tipping days but still found TORONADO (11-4), MISS CAP ESTEL (4-1) and COPPERWOOD (11-2). If my near misses on PASTORAL PLAYER and NASEEM ALYASMEEN had come in things would have been a whole lot brighter.

Royal Ascot Day 3

Not the greatest day on the blog for day two of Royal Ascot with just CARLTON HOUSE and one of my best three CRITICAL POINT placing at 3-1 and 14-1 respectively.
Here are Thursday’s best three and Royal Ascot :
TRADER JACK 1625 ASCOT – (nap) (unplaced) ran really well when second at Goodwood last time over 1m 2f. The drop back to a mile will suit as will the better ground. Great chance.
AZULADA BAY 1945 FFOS LAS – (nb) (unplaced) is in great form with good runs at Warwick and then impressive last time at Fontwell. The ground suits and despite a higher grade race I’m sure he’ll hold his own.
MORAWIJ 1435 ASCOT – (treble) (unplaced) ran well on debut and has scope to improve. Could be anything, chance.
Here is the rest of the Royal meeting :
PRINCESS HIGHWAY 1510 (WON – 17-2) two good runs over 10f including a group three. The step up in trip should help and we may see an even better performance as the rest set this up for her.
FAME AND GLORY 1545 (unplaced) has made this staying circuit his own and won this impressively last year. Can’t see anything beating him.
STIPULATE 1700 (2nd – 11-1) form is good and the better ground really helped last time at Sandown. Tom Queally deserts him but he’s a real battler.
MOLDOWNEY 1735 (unplaced) had to wait forever to get a gap and a run last time but then got home. A clear run could result in a win going away, this horse could be anything.
