AP McCoy’s Farewell

Its the last day we will see the greatest sportsman ever in action! Words have been said, printed and tweeted since we got the retirement news. There are nothing but superlatives being said about The Champ and rightly so! To me I just arise Sir Anthony! A legend, a role model, an ambassador and a hero!
This is the last NH blog of the season and me and my Dad will reset the scores next week ready for the flat season proper. He's up in winning weeks 10-9 but I'm ahead on profit. I've not put anything on the blog for a while that's run well and I'm hoping that changes today!!

Here are my selections :

DUKE OF LUCCA 1550 SANDOWN (nap) (Unplaced = -£5.00)
He's officially well in here and is on the same mark (OR137) that he was when winning well at Aintree last time. He's also got less weight on his back and I think this step up in trip will help. The Hobbs yard are back in form and Johnson knows how to ride this fella and the horse's battling qualities will help him out for sure. It's a hell of a race but I think he has a ceacking chance.

VIBRATO VALTAT 1515 SANDOWN (nb) (unplaced = -£5.00)
Looked a smart prospect earlier in the year and has struggled with how the race has been run. He tried to take on the favourite in the Arkle and then the race at Aintree was run too steadily. Today the race should be run at a fast tempo which should suit and the ground will also.

CAPO ROSSO 1420 HAYDOCK (treble) (2nd – 14-1 = £8.75)
I've followed this horse for a while and the one thing he loves is quicker ground and to get at them from the front. He'll get that today and may be hard to pass at Haydock. I still think he is a 100+ rated horse and is still only five. His couple of all weather runs will have sharpened him up for this and I think he will run a good race at a big price.

NAKUTI 1615 LEICESTER (unplaced = -£5.00)
Really caught my eye when behind in a Listed race at Kempton last time. She looked like the trip was a little too far for her last time and this drop back to 7f plus her weight allowance will help. Ryan Moorerode her that day and is back in the plate today. That run will give her the fitness edge over ALJAMAHEER and COULSTY I think.

My Dad's selections are :
LIL ROCKERFELLER 1400 SANDOWN (WON 5-1 = £15.62)
VIBRATO VALTAT 1515 SANDOWN (unplaced = -£5.00)
VICS CANVAS 1550 SANDOWN (2nd – 12-1 = £7.50)
L'AIGLE ROYAL 1625 SANDOWN (unplaced = -£5.00)

Kempton and a few others

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and the man with the big white beard brought you everything you wished for! I'm staying with my family in Burnley at the moment so can get the old man to give us four horses again for the blog today. I need to see if I can beat him after last time. Each selection will be bet with a £2.50 each way stake.

Current standings FATHER 1 (+£38.44) SON 0 (-£7.50)

My four for today are below :

PEPITE ROSE 1415 WETHERBY (nap) – (WON – 4-1 = +£12.50) ran some very good races last year, notably at Ascot and Haydock when running in defeat. She was also running a cracker in behind PACHA DU POLDER at Newbury when she fell. Looks good at these weights and has some form on soft and heavy ground. The stable won this race last year.

ELY BROWN 1445 LEICESTER (nb) – (WON – 13-8 = +£5.08) this boy has crept up the weights and rightly so. Defeated HOLYWELL last year at Warwick on soft before HOLYWELL went on and won at the festival. Needs to jump more fluently but has a real chance and the stable are doing well too.

GLENS BOY 1340 LEICESTER (treble) – (unplaced -£5.00) is coming back after a long lay off but was pretty decent before that. Won at Newbury over three miles defeating IKODORU ROAD. If fit, has a chance on that form.

MICKIE 1400 KEMPTON – (WON – 5-2 = +£7.81) she really showed she has bags of stamina when winning last time beating PATEESE. She is up 8lbs for that but with the ground being so testing today all her stamina will come to pay and she is worth another crack.

My old man's selections :

MICKIE 1400 KEMPTON – WON (5-2) = + £7.81
DEFINITE LADY 1450 WETHERBY – 2nd (5-1) = + £3.12
VALOROSO 1505 KEMPTON – 2nd (9-2) = + £2.81
IPSOS DU BERLAIS 1455 LEOPARDSTOWN – 3rd (20-1) = +£12.50

Result
FATHER = £26.24 profit
SON = £20.39 profit

Running total =
Father = + £64.68
Son = + £12.89

Sunday treble

A winning nap yesterday – GLENARD 11-1 – was the highlight from the blog, but I also hit the crossbar a few times too. On to today, I have highlighted a few below and at the winner, I hope, from France.

RUGOSA 1610 WINDSOR (nap) – (unplaced) has been placed in three out of five handicaps and something was obviously amiss for the poor run in January. Has been dropped 2lbs since and has a great chance back at this level.

LAUGHING ROCK 1455 LEICESTER (nb) – (unplaced) won over course and distance last month and it could be the same today with a strongly run race to suit.

PORT ALFRED 1625 LEICESTER (treble) – (unplaced) won easily here last time and a repeat of that will see him hard to pass. Could make a mockery of this handicap mark.

ALJAMAHEER 1445 DEAUVILLE – (unplaced) loads to like about his performances this year, and while this is a big step up I think he has a big chance of running to at least a place in this. I'm on each way as 18-1 is a huge price.

Thursday treble

Wednesday produced a nice double with the nap WARLU WAY obliging at 10-1 and the next best ALMALEKIAH going in at 7-4. Let's hope the trend continues on Thursday!

COME HERE YEW 1530 NEWCASTLE (nap) – (unplaced) returns to the place of his sole success and when runs at this distance has figures of 3251. The yard have had a few winners recently and I think he could pip the favourite.

HOPES N DREAMS 2050 HAMILTON (nb) – (unplaced) is three from three over course and distance and has another huge chance of maintaining the 100% record.

TEVEZ 1940 LEICESTER (treble) – (unplaced) another horse who has impressive course form with 3 wins out of 4. Hasn't won for nearly a year and is not in form, but a chance is taken on him at this level.

Naps 41/185 = 22.2%

Saturday selections

This time last year I backed the enigmatic TIDAL BAY when he won the Bet365 Gold Cup and he has gone from strength to strength since then and I still reckon he would have had a decent chance in the Gold Cup too. I hope I have found another winner of this curtain raiser again today. Next week see's the first Classic's of the season and lets hope we have more positive news to report on rather than the Al Zarooni affair. The week after I'm back at Warwick races for their evening meeting which I cant wait for!

On to today here are my best three plus a few others that I'm putting my well earned crust on. All the best of you're having a flutter today!

BALTHAZAR KING 1550 SANDOWN (nap) – (PU) travelled pretty well in the National and if that hasn't taken too much out of him he has a great chance here. Horses that have run in the National have a decent record in this and so does Phillip Hobbs. The drying ground will be in his favour and he is a cracking each way bet. A steady run from the front will see him thereabouts.

WISHFUL THINKING 1440 SANDOWN (nb) – (3rd – 5-1) ran well in the Champion Chase behind the Aeroplane and despite a pretty poor course record he has displayed better performances this year. SANCTUAIRE won this so impressively last year but he is not the same horse this year and all the messing around with tactics on how to try and defeat Sprinter Sacre may have had a detrimental effect.

AL KAZEEM 1515 SANDOWN (treble) – (WON 9-4) won well first time out last year when I backed him, injury prevented any more runs, however, if he has fully recovered the form alone of that race should see him take this. He also has form over this distance too, big chance!

GRANDAD'S HORSE 1405 SANDOWN – (unplaced) this horse is cracking value in my opinion. He was a good novice and ran in some good races with 5 wins too. A lengthy absence needed to be overcome last time and he needed that run. He has better ground today and has a great chance.

INVINCIBLE HERO 1420 RIPON – (unplaced) ran well last year in four starts after a successful year prior to that. His comeback run at Doncaster was decent and that should have him spot on for this and is getting bags of weight from the others.

DAZINSKI 1455 RIPON – (unplaced) is back on his last winnnig mark today after a few disappointing runs last year. I followed him in all of those too, he has the abiltiy to take this and the ground will help, hopeful of a big run today!

UNMOOTHAJ 1705 LEICESTER – (WON – 6-5) his fourth in a pretty decent maiden last year is by way the best form here. He was a bit green that day in the final stages and lost third at the post. With more experience under the belt a reproduction of the run should take this comfortably.

ES QUE LOVE 1930 HAYDOCK – (unplaced) after tipping him up on here about a step up to a mile his performance in the Spring Cup was a little disappointing. A drop back to seven on this quicker track will help him today and he's,top weight for a reason.

BLOG STATS :

Naps 37/168 = 22%
Wins 155/834 = 18.6%
Placed 224/834 = 27%

My Best Three for Friday

Just a quick blog as three really stand out for me on Friday. Here's hoping that they come good. Have been a bit quiet on the napping front this week after last Saturday's success. Think I've got a good one here though with a solid form chance.

HANOVERIAN BARON 1910 WOLVES (nap) – (WON – 9-2) split Loyalty and ROBIN HOOD'S BAY last time out. Both have since won again, the latter beating SPIFER the other day. He goes well fresh and has had a good break since that run.

CHAPEL HOUSE 1610 LEICESTER (nb) – (PU) won this race last year and is another horse in my opinion who has been craving the better ground. With at least ggod to soft ground forecast, has a great chance.

EVERAARD 1510 AYR (treble) – (PU) won well the other week when I napped him. Is in a higher grade but is effectively a few pounds well in, normally knocks up a few wins this time of year and this could be another.

So, those are my best three. Good luck if you're having a flutter yourself!

Wednesday Tips

Well I hope a few of you followed some of the advice on the blog on Saturday for trials day. CAPE TRIBULATION (7-1), AT FISHERS CROSS (13-2) and MR WATSON (11-4) were the winners. Aswell as an each way on KENTFORD GREY LADY (11-1). All in all it was a pretty good day, some great performances and some disappointing ones too. If it was up to me I'd put GRAND CRUS back over hurdles.

Anyway, here are Wednesday's best three for you :

EMPEROR CONCERTO 1510 LUDLOW (nap) – (PU) ran well when staying on behind HANDTHEPRIZEOVER at Doncaster last time. It was eye catching how he kept going up the hill after jumping soundly, hopefully that run will have blown away the cobwebs.

FLEETWOODSANDS 1750 KEMPTON (nb) – (WON 7-1) has been running better of late and this is the lowest grade he's run in. He is on a pretty appealing and decent mark. Blinkers may get the best out of him and he has a decent jockey on board with a good strike rate.

AMROTH BAY 1500 LEICESTER (treble) – (unplaced) is dropping back in trip and may well go off infront and not get pegged back. Will have a good tussle upfront with TOPAZE COLLONGES and with the extra staying power I'm hoping he will take this.

The Jubilee Selections

Well Bank Holiday Monday wasn’t very eventful for the blog with only a place for DEVOTION (4-1). The weather was suprisingly pretty good too! On to the extra holiday day now. I’m off out for a game of golf tomorrow so it will probably piss it down.

Anyway here’s to the Queen and her celebrations. Here are my selections :

FLEXIBLE FLYER 1515 LEICESTER – (nap) (unplaced) won very impressively at Warwick last time on soft ground. The ground will suit and the manner of his last win suggests there will be more to come.

OUR PHYLLI VERA 1620 LEICESTER – (nb) (2nd – 4-1) finished first (soft) and second in last two runs over a mile. This step up should suit and the manner of previous runs should see him come home in front.

SEA FEVER 1655 LEICESTER – (treble) (WON – 5-2) is a likely sort to progress once handicapping. Is related to Wigmore Hall so should stay and will hopefully have some of those fighting qualities.

Stats as of 5/6//12
WINS 47/263 = 17.8%
NAPS 16/73 = 21.9%
PLACED 65/263 = 24.7%
WIN OR PLACED 112/263 = 42.5%
TREBLES LANDED = 2
Remember if you are having a wager to bet within your means. These are my selections and I am not suggesting you follow my advice, I only do this for a bit of fun!

Monday 28th May

Sunday proved to be another profitable day even though I had put a very ambitious nap up! SAMITAR storming home in the Irish 1000 Guineas at 12-1 was a right result. We also had a place with MRS PEACOCK (7-1). I received a few nice thank you tweets too from people who read the blog. Much appreciated, but please remember to read the last few lines of this blog!! I get them wrong alot too!
So on to Monday, let’s hope the run continues.
ARTIGIANO 1430 LEICESTER – (nap) (WON – 11/10) was a close third the other week on his racecourse debut at the Dante meeting. I expect him to have come on for that and the Godolphin string are starting to get there.
ELYSIAN 1600 LEICESTER – (nb) (unplaced) I don’t normally tip up a horse making its debut as anything can happen. However, looking at this one’s impecable breeding (GALILEO/ECHELON) and the top yard and owners, it may be a class act!
TANTAMOUNT 1545 KEMPTON – (treble) (unplaced) represents a yard in fine form at the minute. He’s been declared a few times over the past week and pulled out due to ground worries. He ran well over 9f last time and the step up to 11f should suit.
I will also have a little dabble at my old trainer to follow DECLAN CARROLL’s horse AMAZING STAR 1850 CARLISLE (unplaced). He won over 7f in March is well treated here on that run.
Stats as of 28/5/12
WINS 39/225 = 17.3%
NAPS 14/65 = 21.5%
PLACED 57/225 = 25.3%
WIN OR PLACED 96/225 = 42.6%
TREBLES LANDED = 2
