The Cambridgeshire

Not long now until the 'Rematch', who will conquer who this time?………. More next week on this.

On to today one of the most competitive and exciting handicaps hits us, The Cambridgeshire! If you find the winner of this you're a good man, or your lucky pin did well. Some other cracking races to look forward to, including another rematch of the fillies, plus some damn good jumping action.

Enjoy the racing and good luck if you're having a flutter!

GRANDAD'S HORSE 1450 MARKET RASEN (nap) – (unplaced) this horse should run a cracker today. He will relish the ground and won well here on his chase debut earlier in the summer. That day he defeated PANTXOA, who has gone on to frank the form twice with impressive wins. My guy looks appealing off a mark of 137 and could have a big season ahead.

MONT RAS 1750 HAYDOCK (nb) – (unplaced) won well for me on this blog when winning at 25-1 at York from the front. Has been raised 5lbs since but that won't stop him on ground he will love and with a course record that reads 1112. Another great chance today.

ELSAFEER 1630 MARKET RASEN (treble) – (3rd – 17-2) has been off the track for ages but is a talented horse. He has been dropped back to a previous winning mark and with COOL BARANACA lumping a penalty today I think my selection will win this easily.

JUST THE JUDGE 1510 NEWMARKET – (unplaced) I'm definitely laying SKY LANTERN here (idiot!!), she won't reverse the form with ELUSIVE KATE on this ground. However, I think my selection will defeat them both. She has always been high class and the last run was so bad it should be ignored. She is dropped back to a mile and I think the first two will take each other on too early and my girl will swoop late, that's if Frank doesn't give her too much to do!!!

SAM SHARP 1550 NEWMARKET – (unplaced) what a race this is! If you pick the winner of this you have done a hell of a job, or your pin is very lucky! I've got this down to two. Firstly, THA'IR has his ground and runs off a very appealing mark considering his exploits as a 2 y o. My only doubt is the very low draw. My selection is also low, but I love how progressive this horse has been this year and the way he defeated SENNOCKIAN STAR at York was impressive, as was his run behind SNOWBOARDER prior to that. TRES CORONAS has a sniff, but this might be too short and the connections of ASCRIPTION must be gutted that no rain has fallen this week.

LASTCHANCELUCAS 1430 CHESTER – (unplaced) has the softer ground in his favour and a return to 6f will help, as will the drop to a mark of 84. As always her the draw is key, mine needs to overcome that but has a great chance.

BEAR BEHIND 1530 HAYDOCK – (unplaced) this horse hasn't quite lived up to the standards he set last year when winning off 97 ( then disqualified ) againsy HAMISH MCGONAGALL. Is now back to a mark of 98 and has been overlooked with more focus on his stablemate. He has form on this ground and will be a huge price.

O CROTAIGH 1520 MARKET RASEN – (2nd – 7-2) loves it here and ran well earlier in the year here. He has now dropped to an appealing mark and will run well off it at this distance and class.

Saturday Selections

I haven't done a blog for a while but been incredibly busy with work and then had a fantastic weekend away in Leeds last weekend. With a feast of racing on offer today it was time to put that right. I hope I can find a few winners here today and have a big priced selection on offer again.

GALAXY ROCK 1550 MARKET RASEN (nap) – (FELL) this horse has a touch of class and can stay much further than this today. He hasn't won for a while now but today is the day. I hope there will be a strong pace due to the nature of the race, if not I would expect to see the Champ push him on from the front and use all of his stamina.

KRYPTON FACTOR 1515 NEWBURY (nb) – (3rd – 13-8) this one has some very solid form on offer including a good third at Royal Ascot. Nothing on paper should get near him today and he has the class to take this at a canter.

GOLDREAM 1650 NEWMARKET (treble) – (unplaced) drops down a class today after a decent effort in defeat behind Masamah last time at Ascot. He ran really well behind Ancient Cross at York earlier on and he is a course winner. Huge chance today.

WEISSE SOCKEN 1550 NEWBURY – (unplaced) this is step up for this filly, but it is for most of these. She ran well when winning last time at Chester and caught my eye as one to follow. Ralph Beckett is a master with the ladies and the booking of William Buick catches the eye too. Outstanding each way cance in my opinion at a huge price.

If you are having a flutter today, do so within your means and enjoy the racing!

Sunday treble

Well Saturday threw up a couple of crackers and I very nearly had a big one. I had ES QUE LOVE (16-1 – 2nd) and TWEETY PIE (50-1 – WON) in an each way Lucky 15. It was a very good return but at one point my other horse HANOVERIAN BARON was cruising and the apprentice jockey waited too long and the gap closed!! Anyway, haven't had a 50-1 winner since I picked AKILAK over hurdles over 6 years ago!

Lets see if I can keep it going tomorrow and I've got my eye on another big one!

CARAVEL 1615 MARKET RASEN (nap) – (unplaced) is back to a winning mark and more importantly this horse loves quick ground. The weather this weekend will have surely quickened things up at Market Rasen. The jockey takes a few off too and ground is everything to this horse so ignore recent runs.

LIGHT ROSE 1630 AYR (nb) – (unplaced) this filly ran well last time at Newbury proving her run before that there was something amiss. She had a long break from that and last week's run will have sharpened her up and she'll love the ground.

IT'S MY TIME 1500 AYR (treble) – (unplaced) this horse I reckon will love this extended trip and has been running pretty well including when winning at Chester. Progressive type for this trainer.

Sunday selections

I feel like I'm going through a bad patch at the minute, especially with my naps! Yesterday was another day without my nap winning and a few of my selections really didn't run to plan! However, I still tipped up ES QUE LOVE (12-1) and CLARET CLOAK (11-4) and had places for GLEAN (6-4) and LOVE YOUR LOOKS (14-1), so it wasn't all bad. Today sees the Guineas Trials at Leopardstown and that's where my nap lies.

AROUND A POUND 1535 MARKET RASEN (nap) – (WON 6-1) saves his best for here and his only victory was here. It is very noticeable that all his best performances are here (figures of 214). He showed a glimpse of improvement here last time and I'm hoping he will return to the winners enclosure again.

JUMP CITY 1620 WINCANTON (nb) – (3rd – evens) I'm not one for putting a short priced horse as one of my best three but I have to with this one. His performance was very eye-catching against HUNT BALL last time out over 19f at Taunton. If he reproduces that he will be very tough to beat.

GREAT'S AUTRECHENE 1640 MARKET RASEN (treble) – (unplaced) has claims if he can reproduce the form of his Leicester win, the softer ground and longer trip didn't help last time!
