Kempton – Betbright Chase

It's not too bad a day today for racing. A few pointers to the festival and a couple of competitive handicaps in the Betbright Chase and the Eider Chase. Not ling to go now until the festival and I'm starting to draw up my list!! Brimg it on! Here are today's selections :
OPENING BATSMAN 1535 KEMPTON (nap)
This fella won this race when I napped him a few years ago as a novice, read it here. He has dropped to the same mark again of OR140. Good ground is crucial to him and he ran a cracker here a couple of starts ago and came up the home straight in the lead. He just didnt last the trip in the ground. He carried 11st 10lbs that day and with the apprentice's claim he only has 10 stone on his back today!! That is a huge difference and I'm expecting a huge run from this sound jumper. He will be up with the pace which is important here and I think he'll tussle it out with his stablemate. Huge price too!

BATAVIR 1545 CHEPSTOW (nb)

I have backed this guy all year as I'm convinced he will win a race like this. He has been very disappointing so far and looks a shadow of the horse who bounced onto our shores a few seasons ago. I still think he's got it though, and interestingly he's finally back down to his last winning mark. It's a cracking race this but I really do fancy him today and their is support in the market too.

WYCK HILL 1450 NEWCASTLE (treble)

Another previous winner, and another returning to his last winning mark of OR133. He won this off that mark two years ago and he will relish the trip and despite the ground maybe not being as heavy as he likes, soft ground over four miles at a decent clip will help him!

MUTHMIR 1345 LINGFIELD

Performed very well last year and was third in both the Kings Stand and the Prix De L'Abbaye to the sprint revelation of last year, GOLDREAM. He won at Glorious Goodwood and has shown enough class and speed in his tank to take this. My only thought is the about the surface?

My dad's selections are :
ROCKY CREEK 1535 KEMPTON
DRAYTONIAN 1420 KEMPTON
SUMMERY JUSTICE 1450 NEWCASTLE
BATAVIR 1545 CHEPSTOW

York Dante Festival Day 1

After another dismal day on the blog on Saturday I'm blooming hoping my luck changes at the Knavesmire this week. It should be a cracking meeting and I've got Doncaster on Saturday to look forward to aswell. Good luck if you're having a flutter.

MEHDI 1440 York (nap) (3rd – 10-1)
The drop back to six furlongs will help this fella and he should be fit after his first outing. He's got a featherweight here and Hanagan in the saddle. He was a narrow second to HUNTSMAN'S CLOSE in the Ayr Silver Cup last year and that form is decent with that one getting narrowly defeated at Guineas weekend. He should run a big race.

MUTHMIR 1515 York (nb) (unplaced)
He has looked a very smart sprinter last year and must be a Group horse this year! This is a competitve race to begin but one that he should win.

VOICE OF A LEADER 1410 York (treble) (4th – 33-1)
Nothing like a big priced runner in a handicap! This guy has ability but only had one run last year and for me the ground was against him. He has a decent handicap mark based on only a few outings and clearly the handicapper is concerned about his potential. I think he could run a big race on better ground.

TOGETHER FOREVER 1545 York (2nd – 9-4)
This filly has lots of scope and ended last season on a high. She will definitely stay and I think she will give Star of Seville a close run for her money.

Newmarket and Ascot

Well my old man gave me a true pasting on the blot last week. He tipped up BRONZE ANGEL (14-1) to win the Cambridgeshire and Exitas (6-1) at Market Rasen too. He’s getting closer in the standings but still a bit off in the profit with only a few weeks of the flat season left. We reset when the jumps start! I got up this morning and saw some strange wet stuff falling from the sky and had kind of forgotten what it was! I’m sat typing the blog thinking will it or won’t it rain at Newmarket and Ascot to affect the ground. Anyway whatever happens we’ve got some cracking racing to look forward to and of course the Arc tomorrow – for me TAGROODHA wins that!

Good luck today if you’re having a flutter – here are my selections.

RECKLESS ABANDON 1515 ASCOT (NAP) – (unplaced = -£5.00) was such a smart two year old and even more so with cut in the ground. Has been getting his head back around racing this year and a decent second to MECCAS ANGEL in September, who has gone on and won again since is a decent form line. I’m hoping some of the aforementioned wet stuff gets in the ground to help his chances. He must have a great shout off 110 today.

YODELLING 1455 NEWMARKET (NB) – (NR) she was so impressive on her racecourse debut in a race that Godolphin have such a good record in. She was going easily and won in a canter. She’s bred to run at this level and higher and I’m expecting big things from her today and in the future.

FINTRY 1530 NEWMARKET (TREBLE) – (3rd – 7-2 = £2.18) Maxim Guyon has deserted this fella in preference for Miss France. I’m not about to desert him though. I was on when he battled well to win at Sandown last time and despite taking a bit of winding up he was comfortably clear of the rest. Come rain or shine he will act on the ground and I think Monsieur Guyon will regret his decision.

MUTHMIR 1405 ASCOT – (NR) I have to put this guy on despite his short price – pretty similar to TIGGY WIGGY last week, its like printing money with this one. Won the Portland with loads in hand despite blowing the start and having a poor passage. Bags of class and should take this too if the rain doesn’t get in! If he’s a non-runner my other selection for the blog purpose is below.

MORACHE MUSIC 1550 ASCOT – has a decent record here and his current mark of 106 is doable. Ran very well on good ground to beat BADR AL BADOOR at Donny and was just behind JUSTICE DAY at Haydock in July. BADR AL BADOOR has since franked the form beating DANZENO and they both go up in class today. JUSTICE DAY goes against MUTHMIR also in a better race. This guy stays where he is and has a great chance!

My Dad’s selections are :

STEPS 1405 ASCOT (unplaced = -£5.00)

TROPICS 1515 ASCOT (unplaced = -£5.00)

INTEGRAL 1530 NEWMARKET (WON 7-2 = £10.93)

INTRANSIGENT 1550 ASCOT (WON 16-1 = £50.00)

Goodwood – Stewards Cup Day

Two winners on the blog yesterday with the super smart J WONDER winning at 7-1 and PETHERS MOON AT 11-10. The final day brings us the Group One Nassau Stakes and the Stewards Cup. This will be my last blog for a while as I'm off on my holidays tomorrow, a week stay over in Dorchester in the caravan, then onwards over la manche to France and Brittany for a few weeks. The first time we've taken the van abroad, exciting times ahead! Yet the French can wait, on to the important matter of horses and winning some holiday coin off the old foe. Here are my selections :

MUTHMIR 1550 GOODWOOD (nap) – (unplaced = -£5.00) William Haggas was on fire last week, everything he saddled seem to go in. None were more impresssive than this fella who trounced the field in the Skybet Dash at York. I really fancied GOLDREAM that day and this one was the only one to beat it. He's officially 2 lbs well in under his penalty and that must be a tip in itself after last week. Should run a huge race.

CONFESSIONAL 1405 GOODWOOD (nb) – (unplaced = -£5.00) is just starting to hit some form again after a dry period. Interestingly he has a very good record at the track and was second in this three years ago and came fourth in a Group 2 here also. His last run behind KIMBERELLA is pretty decent form and his mark remains unchanged, he is currently 2 lbs below his last winning mark and is overdue. Today could be his day in a race that will suit his style.

TWEETY PIE 1810 DONCASTER (treble) – (unplaced = -£5.00) this horse is a blog favourite after winning at 66-1 to one for me last year and he has been running well of late. His second last week at York let me down for a big payout but this step back up in trip and his current form are big pluses, the trainer is starting to find a bit of form too.

JAMBOREE GIRL 1740 DONCASTER – (2nd – 8-1 = £5.00) the ground is key to this horse and he ran really well when second at Haydock behind HANNAH'S TURN. He has been dropped a pound in the ratings since a poor run behind WAR SPIRIT at Haydock, however the ground was soft that day. With quicker ground today he should hopefully run a better race and I'm hopeful he will win!

My Dad's selections are :
TATLISU 1405 GOODWOOD (3rd – 11-2 = £3.43)
ENLACE 1455 NEWMARKET (2nd – 13-8 = £1.01)
OASIS FANTASY 1440 GOODWOOD (unplaced = -£5.00)
MUTHMIR 1550 GOODWOOD (unplaced = -£5.00)
