Paddy Power Day

I really do love this meeting at Cheltenham, it's the official kick start of thr NH season for me. All of our old favourites and the new pretenders to the throne are out and it will be a fascinating day of racing. My old man gave the blog a winner with NABUCCO the other week, as I continue to misfire! I hoping for a change of fortune today. Sit back and enjoy a cracking day!

Here are the selections for today :

OSCAR ROCK 1425 CHELTENHAM (nap)
This guy keeps on improving and the blinkers have really helped. He has been raised a further 8lbs after his comforrable Market Rasen success. He travels well in his races and will appreciate the quick pace of this race I'm sure. His trainer was rather confident of his chances earlier in the week too. He moves like he will love this test and despite him now playimg with the big boys I think there is further improvement in him. Sound Investment is my other one in this, he just keeps giving and he could be the fly in the ointment! What a fab race in prospect!

SOLL 1350 CHELTENHAM (nb)
Has always been a decent animal and had two wins from two when joining the Pipe string. He beat REBEL REBELLION at Exeter over three miles on good to soft and that horse franked the form with a win next time. Soll did too beating RELAX again, despite a 4lb pull. He was all geared up for the National and managed a creditable ninth with a broken blood vessel. A sound jumper normally and a smooth mover, I expecting a big show with at least a place.

SO FINE 1500 CHELTENHAM (treble)
This fella has a decent record around here and despite his long lay off he has a great chance at a huge price! He will enjoy the decent ground and he stays very well. He was on my tracker for last year but was injured and he stays on my tracker this year. He'll definitely come on for the run but I think he has a great chance of outstaying them up the hill.

COPPER KAY 1605 CHELTENHAM
This horse is well bred and related the smart Copper Bleu. She has two decent succeses sandwiched between a creditable fourth in Sandown's Listed race. She comes here with a run and a smooth victory in the bag and I'm expecting more from her.

My Dad's selections are :
COGRY 1350 CHELTENHAM
BOONDOOMA 1425 CHELTENHAM
BATAVIR 1500 CHELTENHAM
HEDLEY LAMARR 1535 CHELTENHAM

Cheltenham Paddy Power

Not a bad first day was it! Some awesome action. Uncle Jimmy did me proud finishing fourth at 25-1 and without the blunder caused by the horse falling three out he may have been nearer. He is one to follow. On to the big day and race and here are my selections.

CONQUISTO 1430 CHELTENHAM (nap) – this horse is a great traveller, especially on good ground. He was so impressive when winning at Ayr last season and has then followed that up with two great performances at Haydock and then ndefeating ASTRACAD at Aintree. He's now rated at 154 but I still think there's more to come and his strong, galloping style should suit here. Big chance for me.

QUENTIN COLLONGES 1350 CHELTENHAM (nb) – ran so well last season on his preferred ground. Winning superbly at Donaster in the Grimthorpe chase and then following it up at Sandown after that. The yard are in good form and he has the ground again. Should run a very big race.

GAUVAIN 1500 CHELTENHAM (treble) – caught my eye last time out behind Ely Brown and ran very well. He is on a very appealing mark considering his chase form. Has won a few times here and this longer distance over hurdles seems to have rejuvenated him.

WHITE STAR LINE 1315 CHELTENHAM – comes here seeking a hat-trick and has the ability to do it. Has won more recently on softer ground but has form on good ground and showed that here at the festival in 2012 behind Hunt Ball. Again another who must have a decent sniff.

Cheltenham Open Meeting Saturday

I really do enjoy this meeting and love the Paddy Power Gold Cup. It kick starts the National Hunt season and there are some great horses on display. I've got a pretty good record in the race too, in the past I've won with EXOTIC DANCER, OUR VIC, CYFOR MALTA and the first race horse I loved CHALLENGER DU LUC. No guesses for who my tip is this year!

1.20 – MASTERS HILL looked very good when winning at Chepstow last time and with the Tizzard stable in full flow he may well have more in hand than the top two in the market.

1.55 – CHICAGO GREY he has been a little disappointing lately but has dropped to a decent mark and I find it interesting that Richard Johnson is riding him. He has a very good knack of switching horses off and letting them creep into a race. That is the tactic that could bear fruit tomorrow. I also must give POKER DE SIVOLA a shout too!

2.35 – GRAND CRUS (nap) I just can't see anything in this field beating this! He was a very class hurdler and gave Big Bucks a scare and don't forget he absolutely smashed SILVINIACO CONTI in the Feltham and look what he has done this year. I hope he keeps my good record going and keeps the Pipe record up too!

3.05 BOUGGLER This one was developing intona smart horse a couple of years ago until getting injured here. He has form and has won class one races. If he overcomes the lay off he could run a big race at a big price!

3.40 ROGER BEANTOWN Makes his handicap debut and was turned over last time out conceding weight to the winner. Could run well here on a good mark.

Little shout to for one of my old favourites MIAS BOY (3.55 Lingfield) who normally runs well this time of year and does ave the ability to beat this field.

Good luck and here's to a cracking days racing.
