Paddy Power Day

I really do love this meeting at Cheltenham, it's the official kick start of thr NH season for me. All of our old favourites and the new pretenders to the throne are out and it will be a fascinating day of racing. My old man gave the blog a winner with NABUCCO the other week, as I continue to misfire! I hoping for a change of fortune today. Sit back and enjoy a cracking day!

Here are the selections for today :

OSCAR ROCK 1425 CHELTENHAM (nap)
This guy keeps on improving and the blinkers have really helped. He has been raised a further 8lbs after his comforrable Market Rasen success. He travels well in his races and will appreciate the quick pace of this race I'm sure. His trainer was rather confident of his chances earlier in the week too. He moves like he will love this test and despite him now playimg with the big boys I think there is further improvement in him. Sound Investment is my other one in this, he just keeps giving and he could be the fly in the ointment! What a fab race in prospect!

SOLL 1350 CHELTENHAM (nb)
Has always been a decent animal and had two wins from two when joining the Pipe string. He beat REBEL REBELLION at Exeter over three miles on good to soft and that horse franked the form with a win next time. Soll did too beating RELAX again, despite a 4lb pull. He was all geared up for the National and managed a creditable ninth with a broken blood vessel. A sound jumper normally and a smooth mover, I expecting a big show with at least a place.

SO FINE 1500 CHELTENHAM (treble)
This fella has a decent record around here and despite his long lay off he has a great chance at a huge price! He will enjoy the decent ground and he stays very well. He was on my tracker for last year but was injured and he stays on my tracker this year. He'll definitely come on for the run but I think he has a great chance of outstaying them up the hill.

COPPER KAY 1605 CHELTENHAM
This horse is well bred and related the smart Copper Bleu. She has two decent succeses sandwiched between a creditable fourth in Sandown's Listed race. She comes here with a run and a smooth victory in the bag and I'm expecting more from her.

My Dad's selections are :
COGRY 1350 CHELTENHAM
BOONDOOMA 1425 CHELTENHAM
BATAVIR 1500 CHELTENHAM
HEDLEY LAMARR 1535 CHELTENHAM

Grim up North!!

Not a great deal of success last week I'm afraid and I was gutted at how poorly LANDSCAPE ran when I was so confident of a big run! The only liitle bit of success was WOODFORD COUNTY'S third in the Eider! We win some, we lose some. As I'm sure all of you are, I'm counting the days down to the festival – bring it on! Had such a busy week this week with work and I'm looking forward to kicking back and watching this sport we all love today. Whatever your we earned dosh is on, good luck and I hope you get a shout and win some back of the old foe.

The twitter gamble boys have opted for these four today – give them a follow again and I hope today is the day their four timer comes in.

@Fernando_RFC2 – FILFIL 1555 MEYDAN
@LiamKenniford – SOUND INVESTMENT 1525 NEWBURY
@DazGilbert1 – KAI BROON 1535 KELSO

Here are my selections :

MON PARRAIN 1545 DONCASTER (nap) (Unplaced = -£5.00)
Showed his true class when winning for the blog at 25-1 on New Years Day at Cheltenham. I was really confident of him that day and I know some of you were on him too! I'm even more confident he can take this today! He has been raised 6lbs for his win, but I still think he is a better horse than he new mark and there is more to come. These types of races over longer distances that need him to be bold and brave bring out the best in him. There are other front runners who will push him too today. Sean Bowen returns and takes 5lbs off to help our cause more yet for me the biggrst factor is the ground, he loves good ground! Sit back and enjoy!

SOUND INVESTMENT 1525 NEWBURY (nb) (WON 7-2 = £12.25)
Paul Nicholls has won 6 of the last 9 runnings of this and today my selection can make it 7. I backed him last night at 5-1 and as I type this he is 11-4 in places – the money is coming! He is a smart horse and has some decent form in the bag; beating DOLATULO at Sandown and running well in fifth beihnd THE YOUNG MASTER over a distance too long. He drops back in trip today and the ground will help, he has a big weight to carry but is the best horse in the race for me.

ROALCO DES FARGES 1415 NEWBURY (treble) (unplaced = -£5.00)
He is two from two here, and if he reproduces that or his Cheltenham run back in October he will win is easily in my opinion. The concern is his last two runs which have been a little poor to be honest. He's been dropped 2lbs by the handicapper to OR140 and that is still a mark he hasn't won off. However, the opposition are the key; there Re no young upstarts here! Horses his own age or older are there to be taken! Horses for courses – he should run well today!

KELVINGROVE 1510 DONCASTER (unplaced = -£5.00)
BATAVIR is a decent horse but can he win three on the bounce after a 13lb hike form win one, I dont think so. My selection ran well when beaten by a short head by PULL THE CHORD in January and was then upped in trip at Haydock and ran well in a good race. The key for me here again is the ground. I think he will improve loads for the better ground, having won on good to firm on the flat!

My Dad's selections are :
KINGS GREY 1400 DONCASTER (UR = -£5.00)
BALLYOLIVER 1415 NEWBURY (unplaced = -£5.00)
BENNYS MIST 1525 NEWBURY (2nd -9-1 = £5.62)
DROP OUT JOE 1545 DONCASTER (2nd – 9-2 = £2.81)

Sandown and Aintree

What a belting day of racing ahead of us. With the Tingle Creek to look forward to and the big fences of Aintree. I write this blog this morning nursing a bit of a dull head following a brief forray into the night lights of Sheffield last night! There is nothing better to stem the pounding than focussing on the nags! I'm looking forward to seeing the horses fly over the burch at Sandown, reminising the awesome Kauto Star! Then travel a few hundred miles north and the horses face a wall of fences, and we can remember the great story of Hello Bud last year. Whatever happens it will be a day of entertainment! Good luck if you're having a flutter and enjoy these fine animals doing what they do best.

STORM SURVIVOR 1405 AINTREE (nap) – this horse has been running consistently well over trips like this and his light weight in this race will surely help. The form of his win at Uttoxeter isnt that strong but there is a lot to like about this horse's stamina and effort and he always sems to find a little more which will certainly suit here.

HINTERLAND 1350 SANDOWN (nb) – (WON 13-2) was impressive last time here and had Gradouet already beaten. Has the pace for a race like this and is a sound jumper. I've always thought he was a smart horse.

SOUND INVESTMENT 1300 AINTREE (treble) – (unplaced) won well over 2m4f last year and should be fit and ready for this. Is potentially a smart horse and interesting to see him pitched in here.

CAPTAIN CONAN 1500 SANDOWN – was a dual Grade 1 winner last year and always looked to be a horse that was full of potential. A sound jumper and smart mover he has all the traits to win this.

FORGOTTEN GOLD 1515 AINTREE – has some decent form and is a horse I have followed closely. He course form which I think counts for so much here and he is a cracking price. Is also closely related to previous winners of this. Interesting runner!

VULCANITE 1425 SANDOWN – this horse has always ben touted as a smart one, yet has flatterd to decieve at times. He is on an interesting mark here and could go very well.

Sunday selections

Not a bad day at all on the blog yesterday with COURT MINSTREL (4-1) and MAUREEN (7-2) winning. My big fancy MONSIEUR CADOU never got in the race and maybe the ground was too quick.

On to today, here are my best three.

YOU KNOW YOURSELF 1650 NEWCASTLE (nap) – (2nd – 17-2) won off this mark this time last year when defeating ISLA PEARL FISHER. The drying ground will bolster his chances. His run behind Monsieur Cadou last time at Haydock was ok considering the ground. Hoping for a big run.

LANDSCAPE 1400 STRATFORD (nb) – (3rd – 13-8) if this horse reproduces the form of his last run when he fell at the last at Haydock when looking like the winner, he will take this. This return to novice company should help with only DARLEY SUN a danger in my opinion.

SOUND INVESTMENT 1440 WINCANTON (treble) – (WON – 7-4) won really nicely at Taunton in January. Was then stepped up in class and was disappointing. He's dropped back to a class 4 race today, and if he copes with the ground he should run a good race.
