QIPCO 1000 Guineas

Didnt have too much to shout about on the blog yesterday but thought KINGSGATE NATIVE ran well in third and that HIGHLAND COLORI ran much better and showed the spark is still there. CELESTIAL PATH ran a cracker in the Guineas from a disadvantaged draw and was really moving in the dip. He’s certainly one to watch at Royal Ascot! On to the ladies today and I had a cracking day this time last year with both the MIGHTY YAR and then GOLDREAM (25-1) winning on the blog. I’m hoping I’ve got a few again here. Good luck with whatever you’ve selected, sit back and enjoy and then we’re off to Chester next week! Love that meeting!
He has always looked a decent horse to me and despite wins with cut in the ground I think the quicker ground today will really suit him. He ran possibly his best race at Ascot on quick ground off the same mark as today. His run at Pontefract will have sharpened him up a bit and I’m expecting a winning run from him today.
I tiiped up GOLDREAM in this last year and I’m hopeful I’ve found another decent priced winner. SECRETINTHEPARK had solid C+D form and has won this and ran well last year. Despite moving to the yard that won this last year and will the beforementioned he’s a pound higher than his 6th last year and I dont think he’ll win. BLAINE found his old form ladt year and he has a sniff but he may be handicapped to his best. My selection isn’t though and I think he can go onto bigger things. He ran really well in the group 3 Chipchase Stakes at Newcastle last year behind DANZENO and followed thst up with a 2L fourth in the Stewards Cup. That is smart form and this quicker ground and better draw will help today! There is plenty of pace around him and I can see Hughesie striking late on him.
This is a cracking race! FINTRY has decent form but couldn’t beat INTEGRAL here last time, and she folded a bit tamely for me. BELLE D’OR is interesting and she could improve lots this year and the step up should help too. I have to opt for RIZEENA though, she has the group one form to bring and despite a disappointing three year old campaign she still has class and ran well in her last outing. She has a question mark anout the trip but I think she’ll get it.
With a couple of noteful absentees this race isnt as hot as it should be! Despite the poor ride on TIGGY WIGGY last time I still can’t see her staying a mile. She’s built for speed pure and simple. OSAILA has had a fair few miles on the clock but she has a solid chance today as does JELLICLE BELL who caught the eye last time. I’m opting for LOCAL TIME, while she has to improve for her MEYDAN successes she has the potential and is bang in form. She also beat a few types here in the Oh So Sharp Stakes last season and I think she’ll like this quicker ground. James Doyle has ridden her in her last four wins and I expect a boldshow again today.
I also like the chances of SWNYMOR 1445 HAMILTON, WILLIAM OF ORANGE 1405 SALISBURY and NAMHROODAH in the Pretty Polly!

Saturday at Kempton

A cracking day of racing ahead! I write the blog slightly hungover after a celebratory curry and few beers last night. The celebration – half term! Its going to be a cracker too as we're taking our girls to EuroDisney tomorrow and they don't know yet! I'm hoping a few of the selections come in to line the wallet ready for the trip! This time last year I napped OPENING BATSMAN to win the big race at Kempton and I think I've found the winner today! Hopefully my dad and I can keep the profit going! I need to do much better than last week!
BAILE ANRAI 1550 KEMPTON (nap) – really caught my eye when running a cracker behind The Rainbow Hunter last time on heavy at Doncaster. Has always had bits of decent form and I think the slightly better ground will help too. I think he's got a cracking chance today.
GREY GOLD 1505 CHEPSTOW (nb) – was really impressive how he stuck on and won at Sandown last time. Lots to like about that, he jumps soundly and will relish the conditions again.
SMOKING ACES 1455 NEWCASTLE (treble) – is a thorough stayer and will need to be today. Plugged on well in behind Emperor's Choice last time and Maurice Linnehan's claim will aid further in this marathon trip!
SWNYMOR 1430 CHEPSTOW – I've always liked this horse and he ran much better last time after a decent spin on the flat the time before. If he reproduces his best form he will win this. This race is the best chance he's had of getting his nose infront for a while.
Here are my Dad's selections :

Here are the current standings :
Father 6-4 Son

Profit :
SON = £58.98
FATHER = £81.48

Kempton and Warwick

Well this week was a bit of a shock to the system after two weeks off but The Bandit soon got back into the swing of things! Last week was a cracker for the blog with my nap INDIAN JACK winning at 5-1 and CHEVISE coming at 20-1 givnig me some real profit and saw me finally winning a week over my old man in our little head to head. He also had a cracking week with two winners and 2 placed. Lets hope we can continue the good form of recent weeks today. The current standing are FATHER 3-1 SON. With our total profits from a £2.50 each way stake being
Father = £93.04 profit
Son = £77.56 profit
UNCLE JIMMY 1425 WARWICK (NAP) – (WON – 17-2 = £23.44) He has two wins on soft to his name and for me he has been crying out for this longer trip. People think he may not stay I reckon it will bring even more out of him. He reminds me of HOLYWELL who I put up in this last year and was pipped by ELY BROWN. He takes a bit of a hold but is always there staying on at the end. He beat ROYAL NATIVE at Fontwell over 23f and I think today you will see him stay on over the last flight here and catch up in the run in. He could be my Cheltenham horse this year as HOLYWELL was last year, he would need to be competitive in this though. Great chance today!
HOME RUN 1440 KEMPTON (NB) – (unplaced – £5.00) he ran a cracker last time behind SAPHIR DU RHEU and I think he could reverse the placing today on this softer ground. At the weights he is 8lbs better off today than last time for an 8 length success. Harry Derham takes 5lbs off for his claim though but I just think Home Run has been improving more and more and this track on the ground will play to his strengths. He has only gone up a pound on the ratings compared to Saphir's 15! I think he is better handicapped than his foe and I think Saphir needs laying in this today.
DUNOWEN POINT 1355 WARWICK (TREBLE) – (unplaced -£5.00) has been dropped 3lbs in the ratings for his poor show at Aintree. I think he just didn't fire that day on a specialist track. He is now only a pound higher than when defeated by CLOUDY TOO at Wetherby on soft last year. He gave CLOUDY TOO 5 lbs on the weights that day and that horse is now rated 13lbs higher than my choice in the ratings. If he reproduces that form he will wipe the floor with these today I reckon. The ground should be fine for him and he has a great chance in my opinion.
SWNYMOR 1550 KEMPTON – (unplaced – £5.00) A bit of a forgotten horse is this one! Won very well last year and was moving to win when asked too much at the last flight at Chepstow and he fell. That destroyed the rest of his season and his confidence. Miss Curtis has been patient with him and ran him for a confidence booster on the flat at Doncaster. He was staying on that day over a trip way short and it will have done him the world of good. He's six pounds lower in the ratings than when running in the Triumph hurdle and he has the class to beat these today at a great price!
Before I go on to my dad's selections I also want to flag up MIAS BOY 1435 LINGFIELD – who races on the lowest AW mark for 5 years today. Also EMPEROR'S CHOICE 1535 WARWICK should produce better today dropped another 4lbs! Finally DOESLESSTHANME 1415 WETHERBY goes well fresh has solid form from last year and is being seriously overlooked at 33-1 when I write this, he has a great each way chance.
Here are my dad's selections for today. We've picked three of the same races and the same horse!
RIVER MAIGUE 1440 KEMPTON (unplaced – £5.00)
OSCAR FORTUNE 1425 WARWICK (unplaced – £5.00)
KILLALA QUAY 1500 WARWICK (unplaced – £5.00)
DUNOWEN POINT 1355 WARWICK (unplaced – £5.00)
Result Father = -£20 and Son + £8.44

Badger Ales and Doncaster

Last Saturday brought a bit of luck back to the blog with TIDAL BAY and ROLLING ACES winning and the best three treble was nearly completed but CHRIS PEA GREEN was just foiled! What a performance we got again from Tidal Bay, he is such as class horse and to do it at his age, simply brilliant! I'm gearing up for Cheltenham next week and can't wait. If you're having a flutter today good luck and hopefully I can find one or two here!
ETON RIFLES 1425 DONCASTER (nap) – won this last year and comes here on the back of an eye catching reappearance at Ascot. He is back to his preferred 6f today on ground he will love. He is also getting 6lbs off JACK DEXTER in the race and that will prevent the gallant horse beating my tip.
COTTON MILL 1405 WINCANTON (nb) – this boy is smart and he showed that when being close to My Tent Or Yours on his reappearance at Newbury last year. Forget after that as he never played ball! The year before he was cruising upsides SIMONSIG at the festival before going through the side of a hurdle. He has a big chance in this today.
PANTXOA 1440 WINCANTON (treble) – this horse has just got better and better and is up to this level in my opinion. The pace of the race will suit as he stays on at the end, as will the track with the long run in. POUNGACH is the danger if he jumps better.
SWNYMOR 1535 DONCASTER – looked a class hurdler before falling last year at the last on his debut. Things then never worked out, including on his stable debut. He has some good form on soft ground on the level and I find it interesting that they opt for this rather than his engagement at Wincanton. The ground is obviously key. Smart each way chance!
JABHAAT 1500 DONCASTER – has some interesting form, notibly behind THOMAS HOBSON earlier this season, was then runner up in the race after that and comes here with a live chance. The ground is my worry, but if she handles it she has a good each way chance.
SWIFTLY DONE 1350 DONCASTER – ran well when fourth last week. Interestingly has never won over a mile but he was just getting going when prevented a run in the final furlong last week. Will love the ground again and is on the same mark, chance!
TIME FOR SPRING 1540 SANDOWN – won this last year and comes here on the same mark. He has a record of two wins from three here and must go well.
YOUNG SPARKY 1525 KELSO – I have followed this horse since he first ran and he didnt quite perform in two handicaps last year but is now put back in that sphere in a lower class and I have to stick with him!

Cheltenham 2013 Gold Cup Day

Well what a day that was!!! The nap HOLYWELL rompted in at 25-1. As I said on the blog he was one of my two top bets for the festival, and boy did he prove me right. Good job to be fair, as all my other selectons disappointed. It was great to hear on twitter of a few of you who took my advice, and thanks for your nice comments. I'm on a bit of a run at the moment and hoping it will continue.
On to the final day, where has it gone already! Below are my selections for Friday and the second of my big fancies! Enjoy the racing and enjoy the Gold Cup.

This is always a difficult one to win and it is competitive again. My selection in this is FAR WEST (2nd – 4-1), while the Nicholls string hasn't been firing on all cylinders, this one is a damn good horse. He has won well twice here and that could be his trump card. I'm hoping this gets the Ditcheat team off the mark. I think the slightly better ground will go against ROLLING STAR. I am however having a little each way on SWYNMOR (unplaced) who despite his poor effort last time looked all over the winner before falling at the last before that. He may still run to his capabilities.

This is the race for my second big fancy of the week. He is a real favourite of mine, but this is not a case of heart ruling head as he has fantastic ability and the form to boot. COTTON MILL (nap) (FELL) ran exceptionally well at Newbury behind MY TENT OR YOURS and they even thought of entering him in the Champion Hurdle. Next year definitely. Last season he was very impressive at Warwick defeating subsequent impressive winner AMBION WOOD. He was then going just as well as SIMONSIG in last year's Neptune when unseating Denis by going throught the side part of the hurdle. He will appreciate the better ground and will have the pace to run these into the ground up the hill. His was impressive last time and that will have put him right and DENIS O'REGAN did say this was his best ride of the week. For a little each way money HISABAAT (unplaced) is on a very good mark considering his form in the Triumph here last year.

The winner of this race has to have immense battling qualities. AT FISHER'S CROSS (WON 11-8) has been nothing but impressive this year and showed true grit and determination when holding off THE NEW ONE last time out. How much stronger does that form look now, he also beat MEDINAS by about 12 lengths here on December, further form franked. Whilst this as always is a tough race to win I can't see past this one!

I have to side with the favourite BOB'S WORTH (nb) (WON 11-4) here. Not only does have have superb course form (4 from 4) but he will stay all day and has been finishing his races off so strongly. If you go back into his form he has beaten the likes of ROCK ON RUBY and CUE CARD and in his last two outings defeated FIRST LIEUTENANT here in the RSA Chase. He then jumped superbly in the Hennessey beating TIDAL BAY, and look what he did since then. He has the class, the form, the engine and is the one for me. SILVINIACO CONTI has done nothing wrong and is a good jumper too but if push comes to shove in the final furlong or two I think he'll struggle. I am going to have a bit each way on CAPE TRIBULATION (unplaced) who has come on so much lately and the forecast rain and the staying slog this is will help him, I just don't think he has the class.

Again another one that really doesn't interest me, but I will put up TRICKY TRICKSTER (PU) to maintain his comeback from injury. He was a potentially top class horse and did run well in the Grand National a few years back.

GEVREY CHAMBERTIN is going the right way and was very impressive at Wincanton. However, there are a few with better chances in this at a lower weight. MA FILLEULE (unplaced) is one of those, receiving 11lbs off GEVREY is a lot to get and when you look at her form it makes me fancy her chances more. She won well at Warwick last time in a Grade 2 race, so she drops in class and the second (SWINCOMBE FLAME) franked the form when running well behind QUEVEGA on Tuesday. The third in that race KAUTO SHINY also ran well in the same race behind the supermare! At a big price DOUBLE ROSS (3rd – 14-1) is worth my each way money, he is the only confirmed front runner and may not get pegged back!

The final race of the festival and I'm hoping to go out with a bang. ULCK DU LIN (treble) (PU)has the right profile for this and is a progressive horse. This one has more to offer and ran well beating NOZIC last time in bad conditions, and depending on the weather it may be a slog in this.
So those are my selections, I am equally as confident about COTTON MILL as I was with HOLYWELL, but please don't think that what I say is gospel and as I had a 25-1 winner I know it all, I don't! If you are having a flutter, do so at a level you can afford and good luck!
Here are my selections in short :
1.30 FAR WEST (2nd 4-1) SWYNMOR (ew) (unplaced)

2.05 COTTON MILL (nap) (FELL) HISABAAT (ew) (unplaced)

3.20 BOBS WORTH (nb) (WON 11-4) CAPE TRIBULATION (ew) (unplaced)

4.40 MA FILLEULE (unplaced) DOUBLE ROSS (ew) (3rd – 14-1)

5.15 ULCK DU LIN (treble) (PU)

Doncaster tips

There really is a cracking card at Doncaster on Wednesday and thought I'd do a blog and a selection for each race. There are a couple of decent horses going and there is a really good juvenile hurde too. Let's hope I can find us a few winners.
32 Red Novices Chase 1345
SO FINE – (3rd – 3-1) had a decent season last year including a class 4 hurdle success. He won his first chase start at Kempton in November and then was very poor and a different animal last time here at Donny. With a lay off behind him I am willing to give him another go to beat stablemate TALKONTHESTREET
32Red.com Juvenile Hurdle 1420
SWNYMOR – (3rd – 1-2) this is the best race of the day for me so I can see this one and SWNYMOR would have won the Grade 1 hurdle at Chepstow but for the last hurdle fall when he was asked for a big one. He looked impressive that day and is one to watch for the Festival.
32Red Casino Veteran's Handicap 1450
MARUFO – (nap) (2nd – 9-2) won dogedly last time at Aintree in a similar Veterans contest. He has ground he will appreciate and has had a nice rest and I just love his attitude.
SIG INSULATION National Hunt Novices Hurdle 1525
NEW YEARS EVE – (nb) (unplaced) has always been a smart horse and has the potential to be very good. Pipped last year in the Bumper and turned over last time by Ptit Zig at odds-on, however, his form behind River Maigue at Kempton is strong and on better ground I fancy him to take this. The best race of the day!

SIS Live Handicap Hurdle
ENTER PARADISE – (unplaced) has been runner up in all his hurdle starts and was beaten by WOODFORD COUNTY on soft ground. That one is entered in the Albert Bartlett at the festival and could be a good marker. With the ground a bit better I'm hoping he will win at last.
CGA Foxhnter Trial Hunters Chase
POSTMASTER – (unplaced) not got much of a clue with these races. This one has run at class 1 and 2 and done ok in those races so he will do for me here.
32RedPoker.com Standard Open NH Flat Race
SIR TOBY TYLER – (unplaced) you can't ignore a bumper runner from the Honeyball stable and this one cost a bit and has decent pedigree.
A couple of others too. I fancy DRAWNFROMTHEPAST 1400 Lingfield (4th – 9-4) to bounce back from a rare poor effort last time. I'm also interested in seeing how TITUS MILLS 1410 Ludlow (treble) (3rd – 12-1) takes to hurdles. He was a decent two year old on the flat but then he dropped off the scale and the change of codes could work for him.
If you're having a flutter please do so within your means and good luck!
