Glorious Goodwood Day One

So I thought it was time to end my blog sabatical and go again with the awesome summer spectacle – Goodwood. Although based on the ground we may get quite a few withdrawals and races not being as competitive, we will have to wait and see. A certain Mr Johnston has hit form right before his favourite week so he should be worth a follow. I will try and get a blog up for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, although I'm off on my jollies on Thursday. I'm sure we're in for a cracking few days anyway. As I'm sure you are aware I am part of a fantastic syndicate that own a few horses now, Teamchoochoo. We're currently seeking to expand the syndicate and have some very nice horses at really competitive prices. Please check out our website for more information, or contact me via Twitter. The website is
So on to my selections :
I've watched this fella twice this year and was expecting better of him but he has just not quite got competitive. He was in with a shout at York but was then eased and interestingly the handicapper has left him on a mark of OR97, suggesting he thinks he's still got a bit of class. He was quite eye catching in the race before this staying on well behind MAHSOOB and I think this quicker track will help him in the final furlong or two. I'm also interesting in how BURANO runs off a feather weight, and Amanda Perrett is one to watch at this meeting. A cracking race with FIRE FIGHTING bidding to go out from the front no doubt but giving his nearest rival 8lbs could be just too much. FORGOTTEN HERO won well at HQ a few runs ago and caught the eye staying on again in the same race at York. Spencer who loves a hold up horse could come late on him.
This is a cracking race and you could opt for a few of these. It's a shame AIR VICE MARSHAL is out as it would be a fascinating renewal between him and BIRCHWOOD. The latter ran well last time but has a blot on softer ground and that may be what catches him out this time. My selection won well on the course and the extra furlong should help bring out more improvement. The second in his last race has since gone out and won three times, the last being a Group 2 in France. It's interesting therefore that the same ownership send GALILEO GOLD here too, having won an ordinary race last time. Both him and IBN MALIK could be real improvers.
I found it interesting that Godolphin bought this one and despite a disappointing show behind SOLOW he still retains some ability despite him not getting his nose infront for over two years, and that was beating THE GREY GATSBY. The ground should be ok for him and in this lesser company he must have a cracking chance, it looks like the race may cut up a bit too with the withdrawal of LIMATO AND GLORY AWAITS. ASCRIPTION ran well last time behind CABLE BAY and AEOLUS was impressive too but they've both been hiked in the ratings and will need to improve again to win this whereas my boy shouldn't.
This fella was a great winner for me the other week in the Old Newton Cup staying on gamely to beat his stablemate WATERSMEEET and despite his 7lnbs rise in the weights he should have more to come. The extra two furlongs on this track should help him to motor on a bit to, rather than struggle up a finish. BATTERSEA was favourite that day and didnt show and I cant see any reason to reverse the form but I do think top weight ASTRONEREUS is the main danger. His defeat of DASHING STAR at York was impressive and he could go in again.
I really fancied this fella in the Epsom Dash but he never go in it depsite going off favourite. He is 3lbs lower today off a mark of OR86, only a pound higher than when a good second at Pontefract on soft ground. Which leads me to think the cut in the ground will really help his chances tomorrow and with Hanagan on board I like him even more..
A whole host of chances here and I'm opting for this one due to him handling Epsom rather well last time. That should help his chances here.
Another Johnston horse for me. He has carried a big weight like this before over the distance and run well and will appreciate a bit of cut or if the ground dries a little. He's a game horse and will kick on from a way out and he may be hard to peg back, he's got quite an appealing mark too.

York Dante Festival Day 1

After another dismal day on the blog on Saturday I'm blooming hoping my luck changes at the Knavesmire this week. It should be a cracking meeting and I've got Doncaster on Saturday to look forward to aswell. Good luck if you're having a flutter.
MEHDI 1440 York (nap) (3rd – 10-1)
The drop back to six furlongs will help this fella and he should be fit after his first outing. He's got a featherweight here and Hanagan in the saddle. He was a narrow second to HUNTSMAN'S CLOSE in the Ayr Silver Cup last year and that form is decent with that one getting narrowly defeated at Guineas weekend. He should run a big race.
MUTHMIR 1515 York (nb) (unplaced)
He has looked a very smart sprinter last year and must be a Group horse this year! This is a competitve race to begin but one that he should win.
VOICE OF A LEADER 1410 York (treble) (4th – 33-1)
Nothing like a big priced runner in a handicap! This guy has ability but only had one run last year and for me the ground was against him. He has a decent handicap mark based on only a few outings and clearly the handicapper is concerned about his potential. I think he could run a big race on better ground.
TOGETHER FOREVER 1545 York (2nd – 9-4)
This filly has lots of scope and ended last season on a high. She will definitely stay and I think she will give Star of Seville a close run for her money.

Cambridgeshire Day

myWPEdit Image

A return this week to more normal surroundings for the blog after a weekend away in beautiful County Durham last week. My selections at the moment are in the pits of despair, trying to recollect my last big winner on the blog is like trying to remember the last time Liverpool were the champions of England! However, today brings renewed vigour and hope, and remember the jumps are on the horizon!!!!

QUICK WIT 1550 NEWMARKET (NAP) – (unplaced =-£5.00) here we go then. The nap in the Cambridgeshire and 40-1 when I’m writing this. This fella has been running in some top company this season and he has had a good few months off. He was a narrow second to GRANDEUR at Goodwood last year over 10f and had the likes of BROWN PANTHER AND DICK DOUGHTYWYLIE behind him that day. He just hasn’t been able to cut it with the big boys. He is 6lbs less in the ratings than that defeat to GRANDEUR and he also has stall 1 to bounce from which is where the quicker grounds could well be. Hughesy on board too! An interesting selection that has a great chance!

WHOZTHECAT 1535 HAYDOCK (NB) – (unplaced =-£5.00) has been poor this season but interestingly is now dropped in class and runs off 88, a mark he has previously won off. This mark is also his lowest in over 12 months. The good ground should suit and if he runs to his previous form he will have a good chance at a huge price!

TIGGY WIGGY 1510 NEWMARKET (TREBLE) – (WON 6-4 = £4.68) this filly has been phenomenal this year and I just can’t see her losing this and she possibly should be odds on based on her demolition of the field in the Lowther.

NAFAQA 1435 NEWMARKET – (2nd 5-4 = £0.78) this fella come where with the best form on offer. With TOOCOOLFORSCHOOL franking the form so impressively last week you would expect more to come from my selection.
