Warwick and Kempton

Houblon-Des-Obeaux.jpg

Last Saturday saw a bog of welcome profit for the blog with the win double of LIFEBOAT MONA and GARDE LA VICTOIRE going in. Let’s hope there is more to come today and I’m hopeful of a big run in a race where I have a cracking record over recent years.

The Lanzarote Hurdle is the feature race of the day at Kempton. What a shocker that was this week with the news of this course’s potential closure. While the investment and ideas of the Jockey Club sound reasonable you can’t close a track with the history Kempton has. Let’s hope the council and arguments from the racing paternity stop it, if it goes through we may see similar issues with NH venues. So, to the race itself. I do think OLD GUARD has another big race in him, possibly at the festival, but not today off this weight! DOESYOURDOGBITE won nicely last time, despite running in snatches but this is his biggest test to date. BENNYS KING doesn’t know how to run a bad race and should be thereabouts but the one who catches my eye is one who meets a lot of then trends for this race. CHESTERFIELD ran a cracker behind BRAIN POWER last time after a long absence, showing me some of his old class and potential remain. He was developing into a decent looking hurdler for John Ferguson before the lay off and indeed he was going well here when falling at the last in his penultimate run. He’s been well supported all morning and the current 8-1 from BETY365 is worth snapping up.

In the 32RED.com chase SANDY BEACH steps up in trip to 3m. He looked very good last time when beating ERICHT at Newbury in November and if he stays he will run a big race. KRUZHLININ went in for me on the blog last time at Haydock and he stayed very well up that hill. He’s a previous winner of this and despite being raised 10lbs to a mark of OR146, I still think that’s short of what he could be. The revert to hurdles was to put some confidence in his jumping after facing the big National fences. I think the hurdles and the confidence of his last win will have sharpened his jumping up. He stays forever and ion he jumps he wins I think.

I have put up the last three winners of the Pertemps Hurdle at Warwick on the blog. FLINTHAM, JOIN THE CLAN and UNCLE JIMMY and it’s also where HOLYWELL caught my eye for his festival win. Warwick is an interesting course, and is generally quite easy to get a rhythm but in this race you tend to need to be up with the pace, a strongly run front end can leave the others caught too far behind, so it pays to go with a pace pusher who can stay. LOUGH DERG LEADER could be very smart and he looked it last time, but he came from off the pace, that puts me off him today and this is his biggest test to date. COGRY came back to form last time, but it was a nothing race and the change in conditions helped him but not his rivals. I’m opting for SAINT JOHN HENRY; he’s a nice weight for a 3m contest and he made all here last time, and course and distance form helps here. He’s been raised 7lbs for that win and I think he has another big race in him. The ground will suit and he needs to win this well for me to have a competitive chance in the final at the festival, so I reckon they’ll go for it with him and hit them hard from the front. Let’s hope he stays if they do that!

The Betfred Classic chase is a beauty. 20 old timers going at time over £3m6f – awesome! SEGO SUCCESS flatters to deceive but the first time blinkers may help, but I doubt it. KNOCKANRAWLEY was developing into a smart stayer before the lay off and I doubt he can be competitive back from a monster break, but his a notebook horse for the next race or two. SHOTGUN PADDY has showed a few glimpses but again he just doesn’t deliver when push comes to shove. I’m opting for HOUBLON DES OBEAUX, he ran a cracker behind NATIVE RIVER in the Welsh National last time, he has got a lot of weight but has carried it before. Charlie Deutch’s 3lbs will help and despite being 6lbs higher than when running in this last year he’s in much better form. He’s won off this mark before, will love the ground and he catches the eye a full 19lb lower than when running behind THE YOUNG MASTER and then CONEYGREE in the Denman Chase. You need a bit of class to win this, he has class and will run a cracker.

Well it really is a wet weekend and will be a gruelling test for all these horses today. Make sure you select one that loves this ground and has bags of stamina. A pretty quiet weekend of races as we start the Cheltenham build up, with trials day not far away. This pertempts hurdle race has brought me a few successes and pointers in recent years. In 2013 it's where I HOLYWELL jumped into my notebook for when I backed him at the festival when he won at 33-1 on the blog. I have also had the last two winners of the race with UNCLE JIMMY and JOIN THE CLAN. Click the names for each blog on these races and to read my write ups. Let's hope I can keep the run going!!

FLINTHAM 1425 WARWICK (nap)
I'm pinning my hopes on this fella keeping my record going in this race! He is a full brother to CARRUTHERS and a half brother to Gold Cup winner CONEYGREE; he will therefore enjoy the ground and the battle. He was developing into a smart proposition last year with wins at Chepstow and Ascot. He has looked a little out of sorts so far but he should be fit and the trainer interestingly has opted for this rather than the novice chase, he must have Cheltenham on hid radar therefore! He has a big weight but is used to carrying well over 11 stone, he is very good hence his weight. My worry is it is too much to carry so I've also had a wager on HOWABOUTNEVER who has 10 stone 9lbs on his back and the apprentice takes a fuurther 10lbs off.

RED DEVILS LAD 1535 WARWICK (nb)
I backed this guy last week when he unseated early in the Welsh National. Prior to that he had been a sound jumper and he will love the ground with two wins already on heavy. The question mark is the trip but I think he'll get it. He also has the excellent Sean Bowen on board. A cracking price too.

DEFINITLY RED 1350 WARWICK (treble)

BLACK HERCULES is a smart horse but he's always run poorly over here and he's never been an odds-on shout. SILSOL ran a cracker behind SEEYOUATMIDNIGHT last time, and with the form franked, plus the ground he has a great chance. My guy though has always looked a top horse in his bumper and hurdle days last year. Interesting how the yard waited for softer ground and a lottle race at Catterick to get his chasing career underway. He ran well there and I think he has a great chance here.

BIG JIM 1315 WARWICK
He's been running over a greater trip than this therefore has the required stamina in the bag. He will love the ground and ran well last time with 11stone 12lbs on his back. He carries a full 21lbs less today!! Great chance!

Newbury and Warwick

Good evening everyone! Yep I'm doing the blog on Friday night as tomorrow I am at my school again doing the final dress rehearsal for our performance of Our Day Out next week. I'm hoping Warwick survives the chill as I have two selections there tomorrow! It has been a tough week for the Bandit and the family this week. On Sunday I had to take our beloved cocker spaniel Freddie to the vet to be put down. It came so quick, on Saturday he had started to breath a little funny and cough as if he had something stuck in his throat. It got worse on Sunday and we found a large tumour in his mouth/throat. The vet thought it was cancerous and he was struggling to breath. Broke my heart doing it but I couldn't let him be in pain. Rest in peace little fella!

The photo for the blog is courtesy of Fran @Riosrider2 again. Give her a follow!
Last week was a complete shocker for my selections too, I was quietly confident of a few of them and couldn't believe how poorly they ran. To be fair the ground was shocking but I can't make excuses my horses just weren't good enough. Saturday is a cracking card at Newbury and the racing at Warwick is decent too. The festival beckons everyone! Whatever you are backing tomorrow with your well earned cash – good luck! Lets hope we take a step closer to beating the old foe!

The twitter gamble boys have opted for the following tomorrow – their big gamble will land soon!

@Tonythetyke Nightline 1300 Warwick
@DazGilbert1 Barters Hill 1640 Newbury
@Fernando_RFC2 Vibrato Valtat 1405 Warwick
@LiamKenniford Milan bound 1350 Newbury

Here are my selections :

SIGN OF VICTORY 1535 NEWBURY (nap)
Won first time out this year at Ascot more or less on the bridle and he looked very smart. He was then pitched in a little too deep amd was put in his place, but finished a creditable fourth, to FAUGHEEN. He has to carry alot of weight in the race, but he has that because of what he has shown. The form of his Ascot race has swung it for me. He beat DAWALAN that day who has since gone on and won twice and looks decent. BARADARI finished third that day and he obliged the other week. You can even go further down the field at Ascot that day day and find KILCOOLEY who rompted home at Haydock too. I like to find a decent priced horse in a competitive race and I think I have found it for tomorrow. He's probably better than this and will shown it tomorrow for my money.

BALGARRY 1535 NEWBURY
With Sign of Victory now a non-runner I will go for this fella to come up trumps in this race. He ran so well last time after such a long lay off last time and he may now step up today.

CONEYGREE 1425 NEWBURY (nb)
This fella just keeps impressing me, and he seems to get better and better. He has been raised a further 6lbs for his last success to a mark of OR153. That is still a little less than some of his rivals in this and he needs to improve again to trouble HOUBLON DES OBEAUX and UNIONISTE. My guy travels so well in his races though and hasn't put a foot wrong. My question against the other two is whether the ground is soft enough for them. I'm hoping my guy jumps with the same zest and enthusiasm again and he'll give them a good run. Cracking little race.

UNCLE JIMMY 1335 WARWICK (treble)
On of my old favourites! He won the Pertempts Qualifier here last year when I napped him on the blog beating GRAND VISION. He returned this season with an impressive defeat of SOUND INVESTMENT at Newton Abbott and followed that up with a second to PECKHAMECHO at Aintree. Interestingly ROLLING MAUL was well down the field that day and he went on to win well at Cheltenham on New Year's Day. He will like te ground and should make the transition to the bigger obstacles. He ran a stinker last time in November over hurdles and I find it really interesting that they have used that time to prep him for fences and not stick to hurdling.

DORMOUSE 1625 WARWICK
He has won 3 out of 6 here at Warwick and put in a grand show when defeating REGGIN PERRIN at Lingfield in November. Has flattered to deceive a little since but his marked has dropped back to OR118 and the jockey booking of Paul Townend really catches my eye. His mark has fluctuated between OR115 to OR120 over the past year and his mark is doable and he has carried big weight to success in the past.

Lanzarote Day – Kempton and Warwick

myWPEdit Image

Doffing my cap is the order of the day today to my fellow horse racing friends on here. The #twittergamble boys produced a beauty last week with SOMCHINE winning at 10-1 for @Tonythetyke, WALSER winning at 7-2 for @DazGilbert1 and UNIONISTE winning at 5-2 for @Fernando_RFC2 – spot on boys. Their selections for this week are below! As I say every week the boys are worth a follow! If you had put all four selections in a £1 Lucky 15 you would have had a profit return of £281 – great tipping fellas!

#Twittergamble

@DazGilbert1 YOUNG DOTTIE 1540 LINGFIELD

@Fernando_RFC2 WARRANTOR 1440 KEMPTON

@LiamKenniford SEGO SUCCESS 1355 WARWICK

@Tonythetyke CLOSING CEREMONY 1425 WARWICK

As for my own fortunes last week, not great is the best summation. Although TRIOLO D’ALENE ran well on poor ground and with Geraghty hardly touching him or making an effort watch him the next time he runs on good ground. Not a bad spectacle today although this is quiet time as we start to head towards trials day and the build up to the festival. Whatever your well earned money is on today, I wish you all the luck in taking some money of our old foe! Game on!

JOIN THE CLAN 1425 WARWICK (NAP) (WON 8-1 = £25.00)

Now as follows of the blog know I am always partial to trying to find a decent price horse in a handicap as my nap when and where one pops up. I think this fella is the answer today, my only real concern is the form of Jonjo O’Neill’s stable, at least he had a winner yesterday though! So why do I put my money on an outsider with not a win for a while! Well he could be really well handicapped today and he has a feather weight on his back. The last two runs he has shouldered 11st 12lbs and 11st 2lbs. He steps rightly so back up in class today and an apprentice taking 10lbs of in weight, so he’s on racing weight of 10st 2lbs. That weight around here in testing ground over 3m 2f could be crucial! Get on!

DELL ‘ARCA 1440 KEMPTON (NB) (unplaced = -£5.00)

he has lots of smart form in the book and I think the distance last time was far too long. He returns to a better target today and he has always promised to be a good thing and has been beaten by SLASH OF GINGE, LAC FONTANA and more recently CONEYGREE an his mark has always stayed high. WARRANTOR could be the danger but I think my home has all the class today.

MICKIE 1355 WARWICK (TREBLE) (unplaced = -£5.00)

she is back down to her last winning mark and has Dickie Johnson back on board, together they have won 3 out of her 4 success. She’s a good solid yardstick over hurdles and HIGHLAND RETREAT put her in her place last time but off level weights in mares only race. That one franked the form again this week and today my selection gets her 3lb allowance back which could make all the difference.

HAWKES POINT 1535 WARWICK (WON 17-2 = £26.56)

He has been given a real chance today! He is 6lbs better off after his Welsh National shambles but to put that in perspective its a 4lb lower mark today thayhn when he was piped by MOUNTAINOUS in the same race last year, just beating TIDAL BAY too. Interestingly today he is tried in first time blinkers, good old MON PARRAIN was the same last week and we know what happened there. This is his best chance of a big race success for me.

My Dad’s Selections are :

AWAYWITHTHEGREYS 1425 WARWICK (PU = -£5.00)

Wednesday selections

myWPEdit Image

I thought I would do a bonus weekday blog after looking at Wednesday’s cards a few jumped out at me that are of interest.

POLLY PEACHUM 1630 WARWICK (nap) – (WON 3-1) I have been waiting for this horse to run again for a while. I first saw her win her at Warwick in a bumper that she took very easily and looked a smart prospect. The key to her is good ground. She ran a great race when winning at Kempton last year beating the likes of MICKIE and CALL ME A STAR in a class 1 novice hurdle. She then disappointed a little on soft ground last time. In this class 4 on good ground with the very good Nico de Boinville taking 5 off her back she has a great chance.

COULDHAVEHADITALL 1420 WARWICK (NB) – (unplaced) this horse has only run once on good ground and he won well at Wetherby until the champ. He returns to good ground here after falling behind ANDY KELLY early on Saturday. ULZANA’S RAID will be all the rage because of the form however I think this one has a really good shout.

LISAHANE BOG 1940 KEMPTON (TREBLE) – (unplaced) this horse is due a win soon, based on the second and third to last starts you would think it is soon. He hasn’t won for a long time yet I find it intriguing that Adam Kirby gets the ride after finishing second on him here a few rides ago. Good chance.

ANNOUNCEMENT 2010 KEMPTON – (unplaced) this horse won on his solitary start last year at Thirsk, the form of that race is pretty solid with the second and third winning and the likes of FIRECRUISE who finished down the order that day winning a couple of decent races since and now on a mark of 80 which is up near the top two in the betting for this. Could run well in this contest at a decent price.

Kempton and Warwick

Well this week was a bit of a shock to the system after two weeks off but The Bandit soon got back into the swing of things! Last week was a cracker for the blog with my nap INDIAN JACK winning at 5-1 and CHEVISE coming at 20-1 givnig me some real profit and saw me finally winning a week over my old man in our little head to head. He also had a cracking week with two winners and 2 placed. Lets hope we can continue the good form of recent weeks today. The current standing are FATHER 3-1 SON. With our total profits from a £2.50 each way stake being
Father = £93.04 profit
Son = £77.56 profit

UNCLE JIMMY 1425 WARWICK (NAP) – (WON – 17-2 = £23.44) He has two wins on soft to his name and for me he has been crying out for this longer trip. People think he may not stay I reckon it will bring even more out of him. He reminds me of HOLYWELL who I put up in this last year and was pipped by ELY BROWN. He takes a bit of a hold but is always there staying on at the end. He beat ROYAL NATIVE at Fontwell over 23f and I think today you will see him stay on over the last flight here and catch up in the run in. He could be my Cheltenham horse this year as HOLYWELL was last year, he would need to be competitive in this though. Great chance today!

HOME RUN 1440 KEMPTON (NB) – (unplaced – £5.00) he ran a cracker last time behind SAPHIR DU RHEU and I think he could reverse the placing today on this softer ground. At the weights he is 8lbs better off today than last time for an 8 length success. Harry Derham takes 5lbs off for his claim though but I just think Home Run has been improving more and more and this track on the ground will play to his strengths. He has only gone up a pound on the ratings compared to Saphir's 15! I think he is better handicapped than his foe and I think Saphir needs laying in this today.

DUNOWEN POINT 1355 WARWICK (TREBLE) – (unplaced -£5.00) has been dropped 3lbs in the ratings for his poor show at Aintree. I think he just didn't fire that day on a specialist track. He is now only a pound higher than when defeated by CLOUDY TOO at Wetherby on soft last year. He gave CLOUDY TOO 5 lbs on the weights that day and that horse is now rated 13lbs higher than my choice in the ratings. If he reproduces that form he will wipe the floor with these today I reckon. The ground should be fine for him and he has a great chance in my opinion.

SWNYMOR 1550 KEMPTON – (unplaced – £5.00) A bit of a forgotten horse is this one! Won very well last year and was moving to win when asked too much at the last flight at Chepstow and he fell. That destroyed the rest of his season and his confidence. Miss Curtis has been patient with him and ran him for a confidence booster on the flat at Doncaster. He was staying on that day over a trip way short and it will have done him the world of good. He's six pounds lower in the ratings than when running in the Triumph hurdle and he has the class to beat these today at a great price!

Before I go on to my dad's selections I also want to flag up MIAS BOY 1435 LINGFIELD – who races on the lowest AW mark for 5 years today. Also EMPEROR'S CHOICE 1535 WARWICK should produce better today dropped another 4lbs! Finally DOESLESSTHANME 1415 WETHERBY goes well fresh has solid form from last year and is being seriously overlooked at 33-1 when I write this, he has a great each way chance.

Here are my dad's selections for today. We've picked three of the same races and the same horse!

RIVER MAIGUE 1440 KEMPTON (unplaced – £5.00)
OSCAR FORTUNE 1425 WARWICK (unplaced – £5.00)
KILLALA QUAY 1500 WARWICK (unplaced – £5.00)
DUNOWEN POINT 1355 WARWICK (unplaced – £5.00)

Newmarket Day 1

This is such a great meeting splitting Royal ascot and Glorious Goodwood with some quality races on offer. These are my best three for tomorrow plus one extra elsewhere.

DANADANA 1440 NEWMARKET (nap) – the ground is key for this horse. After a decent win at Chester the ground was too sticky at Sandown abd we didnt see the best of the horse. He has won 4/4 on good to firm and I expect him to come from off a strong pace set by UNIVERSAL. Ryan Moore is another huge plus!

PASAKA BOY 1515 NEWMARKET (nb) – this horse was ultra impressive I thought when winning a competitive race on Derby day. The trip at Royal Ascot was too far and too challenging. The return to 10furlongs will suit and he had loads of these beaten at Epsom yet is a much bigger price than them today. Looked progressive at Epsom and was raised 5lbs, has since dropped a pound and is still a better horse than his current mark I reckon.

BROWN SUGAR 1410 NEWMARKET (treble) – you had to like the way this horse won last time and despite this being a top race this horse looks class and could quite easily be up to this level.

FINESSE 1455 WARWICK – the step up to a mile last time was too far and she returns to 7f today and to the scene of her last success. The poor run last time has seen her drop back 3lbs to her last winning mark.

Monday’s treble

After Saturday's disaster Sunday was much better. If you read my timeline you would have seen me a long last have a winning nap. WHOZTHECAT 14-1, was the one that broke my 14 loser run! Lets hope tomorrows can continue the winning trend and that I have a few at Ascot!

CELESTIAL DAWN 1515 CARLISLE (nap) – (unplaced) has dropped back to a good mark and has been running consistently lately. Better with a bit of cut, but has won on good and will appreciate this stiff track.

TUSSIE MUSSIE 1645 CARLISLE (nb) – (unplaced) has two good runs behind him this season and has the potential to go one better today.

DARK ORCHID 1950 WARWICK (treble) – (3rd – 9-2) Shirrocco Star ran a stinker last time and I don't think she's the same horse. My selection has a few good runs behind her in France and whilst has been a pace maker recently, cannot be discounted and Godolphin are starting to fire.

Saturday Chances or Chancers?

The Cheltenham count down is well and truely on. Today gives us another chance to see a few potential contenders and we also have a Grand National Trial. Yesterday my nap EDMUND KEAN was very impressive and surely one to watch for the festival, the runner-up SEEDSMAN is also one to watch. I fancy a couple of David Pipe's today and I'm hoping the old boy above GILES CROSS can repeat last year's success.

Here are todays tips. I've done three Lucky 15's.

Lucky 15 Number 1

THE COCKNEY MACKEM 1515 ASCOT – (5th – 25-1) ran very well at the end of last season in some competitive chases. A superb second at the festival in the Byrne Plate behind Salut Flo shows this one has the ability. He has gone well fresh before and shouldn't be discounted back over hurdles. I've just got 25-1 on BetFred for this one which is a crazy price. Great each way chance!

CUE CARD 1550 ASCOT (nb) – (WON 15-8) this horse has bags of class and despite him stepping up in trip he still has enough ability at this distance to take this. He will never beat SPRINTER SACRE so connections' plan to change distance for me is sensible. Favourites have a cracking record in this race and the drop back in trip will suit and I think he will win comfortably.

MIAS BOY 1600 LINGFIELD – (4th – 7-1) I just can't leave this old favourite of mine and would back it to the death. He just got pipped last week at this course. He is back at a mile so will need a strong pace. I think that is what has resulted in places in the last two races is that he didn't get going soon enough. However, this is a step up in class. Must have a strong each way claim though.

SAOI 1635 LINGFIELD – (2nd – 3-1) bidding for a hat-trick and I was furious with myself for missing the first of those victories as I had backed it twice beforehand. He should appreciate the step up in trip and the form of his last two victories is strong and been franked by the runner up running to a place twice more.

Lucky 15 Number 2

VALCO DE TOUZAINE 1345 HAYDOCK – (3rd – 11-4) ran well in France and has two decent starts to his British career including a good second on his reappearance. He then ran creditably behind LORDOFTHEHOUSE next time out. Those runs should put him in with a smart chance today.

KENTFORD GREY LADY 1420 HAYDOCK (treble) – (4th – 2-1) she is a smart stayer and ran very well in third behind REVE DE SIVOLA in the Cleeve Hurdle last time. On that form she should take this today.

GILES CROSS 1455 HAYDOCK – (PU) he ran a cracker in the Welsh National and just emptied totally in the final few furlongs. At that point the stable had just come from being closed down so it was a damn good show. He won is last year ahead of NEPTUNE COLLONGES and we know what he went on to do. He loves the ground and the track and now that the stable are back with the winners again, he has a great chance to reclaim his crown. I have ran out of words for describing DENIS O'REGAN as a superb jockey and he will get the best out of him again.

SIXTY SOMETHING 1640 HAYDOCK (nap) – (unplaced) is a progressive horse as he showed when winning at Aintree and Bangor this season. He ran a bit under par last time at Doncaster behind STORM SURVIVOR but he still ran on well late in that race. O'REGAN's relaxed style will suit him and he should be crept into the race, fancy him big time to bounce back today.

Lucky 15 Number 3

AMIGO 1430 WINCANTON – (3rd – 13-8) won over 3 miles last time at Chpestow in a dogged style and he has been raised 3lbs for that success. With heavy ground again on the cards he should be thereabouts at the finish up the long Wincanton finish.

DIAMONDS RETURN 1615 WINCANTON – (PU) won three on the bounce at the end of last season including over course and distance and ran well last time out. Returns today and could continue that progressive trend, hopeful of a big run.

REAL MILAN 1405 ASCOT – (PU) whilst ROCKY CREEK is a worthy favourite after his impressive win at Warwick last time my selection has done nothing wrong so far in two novice chases and will revel in the mud. This is a big step up but he looks a smart one.

ASHKAZAR 1440 ASCOT – (LAST!!!!!) this old dog infuriates me! He can be absolutely class and was that at Cheltenham last season. He has so much ability but it depends how he feels. He'll either run well and give them something to think about or he won't be bothered and will be pulled up. I'm hoping for the first one at a pretty decent price.

So, quite a few selections today and I'm more than hopeful of my top three. I just have to say that THE COCKNEY MACKEM has such a good chance in my opinion today and I have put a little extra on him each way!

If you are having a bet, please do so within your means. If you like what you have read please give the blog a retweet or a follow. I do really appreciate people reading the blog as it takes a while to do.

Best of luck everyone and enjoy the racing!

Super Saturday

The Cheltenham festival is getting ever closer and things are hotting up on the NH front. What a cracking day's racing we have in store today, with potential Gold Cup horses having their final runs before the big race. A hot handicap hurdle at Newbury to whet the appetite too. Then there's a decent card at Warwick with some Cheltenham fancies there. All in all I'm really looking forward to today. Hopefully I can put up a few winners for people too. I had a nice one in mid-week with O CROTAIGH winning on his favourite track, what a price he was too.

Anyway, on to today's selections :

VAGO COLLONGES 1640 NEWBURY (nap) – (2nd – 3-1) won two from two in France and the form of the last race is pretty damn good. One of Nicholls' other new recruits was fourth in that race (PTIT ZIG) and he won well on Wednesday at Ludlow defeating the highly thought of New Year's Eve. My selection also defeated one of the top hyped horses in France at the moment. This one could be special!

MIAS BOY 1615 LINGFIELD (nb) – (2nd – 5-1) one of my old favourites and these days needs everything to drop right. Has improved form in recent runs and is still on a good mark. Was trying to get there last time but left it a little late, hopefully he'll pick his way through in the final furlong today.

COTTON MILL (treble) – (2nd – 9-1) I have been waiting for this one to run all season. I was thoroughly impressed with him last year and he was moving just as well as SIMONSIG at the Festival before crashing through the barrier and running out. In a race like this you must be ahead of the handcapper and I think judged on his potential he has a pretty damn good mark. The only doubt for me is the ground, but I don't think it is as soft as everyone thought and he has won on good to soft in the past. Huge each way chance! I'm also going to have an each way dabble on BABY MIX, another one of mine that I follow to the ends of the Earth and he has been terrible this year so far. There must have been something amiss and a break may have helped to rejuvenate him and 33-1 is huge!

MENORAH 1425 NEWBURY – (3rd – 7-1) I think the step up to three miles will really suit him and allow him to get into a rhythm that he needs. He was impressive last time I thought in the Peterborough and whilst SILVINIACO CONTI is a good horse he is giving weight away and has had a couple of tough races, him being odds on is crazy in my opinion. My selection is a smart horse and he MAY just turn into a potential high class stayer.

KNOCK A HAND 1350 NEWBURY – (unplaced) he won this last year and has conditions to suit again. He is potentially dangerous back over hurdles only 5lbs higher than when taking this last year. The concern is his poor form over fences!

SHOOTERS WOOD 1500 NEWBURY – (unplaced) he impressed me last time at Cheltenham and whilst this is a further step up, he seems to be progressive and talented. I loved his attitude and he will need to dig in today to take this, the ground is fine and I'm hopeful of another big performance. EDGARDO SOL is the danger for me, not a lot between them!

I'm also going to spend a penny or two on TEMPLE ROAD 1510 LINGFIELD – (WON 7-2) denied a hattrick last time in better company, todays drop in class should suit again and he should be thereabouts.

Now that one of my favourite little tracks WARWICK has got the go ahead I'm doing a little Lucky 15 there.

DORMOUSE 1255 – (unplaced) has won a few times here and will like the softer ground. Drops back to her preferred level and could run a big race at a big price.
KAFFIE 1330 – (4th – 7-1) another that returns to an optimum trip and has form on heavy ground. Got pipped by KELLES BELLE last year and is 5lbs better off today. Real good chance.
DOESLESSTHANME 1405 – (4th – 7-1) won three on the bounce last year over shorter than this and has been running against hot opposition this year so far. This could be his return to winning ways.
FAULTLESS FEELINGS 1515 – (unplaced) ran very well on his return at Newbury behind AFRICAN GOLD who won well again on Thursday. He stayed on towards the end of his last race on Boxing Day but was too far adrift to catch the front two. Big chance today!

If you are having a bet, please remember these are my selections and my opinions! Everyone has different viewpoints and thats why we love this game so much! Please bet within your means if you're having a flutter.

Best of luck!
